Phil Jackson Thinks Erik Spoelstra Could Be Fired

There’s no fun in Miami at the moment, and if that continues to be the case, the Zen Master (like everyone else on the planet) can see Spoelstra getting Stan Van Gundy-ed by Pat Riley real soon. From ESPN: “After adding LeBron James and Chris Bosh to go along with Dwyane Wade, Miami has limped to an 8-6 record. Wade has been banged up, Mike Miller hasn’t played a game and now Udonis Haslem could miss significant time … ‘They’re still kind of searching out how they’re going to find a role and work their roles together,’ Jackson said. With expectations so high going into the season after team president Pat Riley assembled his dream team, the pressure is on Spoelstra to deliver. When the Heat struggled to an 11-10 start to the 2005-06 season, Riley shocked the league by replacing Stan Van Gundy on the Miami bench. He hadn’t coached since the 2002-03 campaign but led the Heat to the NBA championship. ‘The scenario that sits kind of behind the scene, is that eventually these guys that were recruited — Bosh and James — by Pat Riley and Mickey Arrison, the owner, are going to come in and say, ‘We feel you [Riley] can do a better job coaching the team. We came here on the hopes that this would work,’ and whatever, I don’t know,’ Jackson said. ‘That’s kind of my take on it, is that eventually if things don’t straighten out here soon, it could be the Van Gundy thing all over again.’”

here he goes again with the Jedi Mind Tricks….can’t wait till B Shaw takes over….

  • saveahoe11

If anyone wants a really good laugh just look at the pics of these miami knobs from summer time!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Myles Brown

Remember when people said that Phil had it easy because he always coached the leagues two best players?

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Tarzan Cooper thinks phil jackson is a giant douche who shouldnt comment on another coaches job security…….. Black rick, theres no mind tricks, theres nothing zen about phil, hes just an a$$hole. If you know anything about zen, you know phil has nothing to do with it, at least in the context to which hes referred to as ‘the zen master’. He just talks trash, thats not zen.

  • http://www.slam.com Martey

Yeah enough with the Zen talk. That’s not Zen at all. Phil is the master of passive-aggression

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Myles, it also helps to have great role players who arent out for half the season.

  • http://google c_cantrell

im so ready for riley to take this goofs spot

  • unrel

calling phil an a$$hole for what?.. he’s saying what we all were saying before the season even started.. what’s so different?..

  • unrel

    @myles.. i remember that.. it’s a shame people discredit his coaching skills…

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

Phil Jackson also thinks that Tom Brady might be a good quarterback.

  • vtrobot

It helped that one of those players was one of the most dominant centers ever, tho. We’re all saying it on these boards. We’re not NBA coaches talking about another current coach’s job. Sort of a d*ck move but pretty much par for the course for the “Zen Master.” Is Riles really going to prevent Bosh from getting 1 rebound a game?

  • LA Huey

    I haven’t rooted for a Phil-coached team since the ’93 Bulls but, I’ll admit, he’s a cool dude.
    btw, I hear you, Myles.

  • T-Money

Myles, to be completely fair, people used that argument when comparing Phil to guys like Jerry Sloan, Pop and Larry Brown – not bums like Spo. And to be even ‘fairer’, a lot of people were questioning whether Spo could handle all of his stars as soon as 9 pm on July 8.

  • donlaker

those players dont wont to practice 3 times a day(riley) so they better live up to thos lofty heights
just get( espn) to coach the team .. they are running to eric dampier for help…..this doesnt look good
d wade is killing himself to make it work phil wants to coach the team next year ,his contract is up and he is bored of the 3 peat thing…new challange

  • T-Money

d-wade is killing himself to make it work? whaaaat?! he’s been playing pathetic ball since the start of the season. absolute trash. / if the record doesn’t improve, players won’t have a say in practices/coaching decisions anymore. they signed on the dotted line, pat can do what he wants.

  • Jer dawg

Riley isn’t going to make the Miami Heat rebound or play better defense. He can yell and motivate, but the time that rolls around the Heat team will be worn out. Spoelestra gave the keys to these guys to go out and deliver. Will Riley really make a difference? IMO I think not. Dampier might help. But Shaq owns him. Mike Miller isn’t going to shoot straight for a long while. Th NBA season is one of building momentum into postseason. They have no momentum yet…

  • All Day

Phil Jackson has won 10 championships, so he can say whatever the hell he wants to say. Yes, Phil likes to talk ish about players and coaches, but that’s what he does…Phil likes to stir up ish.

  • feez22

he’s getting in miami’s heads. classic Zen. Clearly wade doesn’t wanna practice under pat riley again… wade’s man to man defense has been horrible this yr to say the least compared to what people expect from him. Can’t believe people think he’s a better man on man defender than bron… not looking so smart after all people. well some of ya. but ya lebron and bosh probably need the tough riley wade on the other hand… lets say the hustle isn’t in him like it used to be.

  • unrel

@T-Money.. phil isn’t really talking about Spo.. he’s more talking about riles and another ‘van gundy thing’.. it’s more about the situation of riley taking over.. rather than him just bashing spo..

  • ClydeSays

Does Phil have a Twitter account? I think he needs one ASAP. He can just spew unfiltered, 24/7…

  • feez22

@ Jer dawg they are 8-6 i don’t think anyone really carries 14 games into season momentum into the playoffs anymore teams have lulls. look at the celtics last yr… they almost limped into the playoffs. ya they were 4th seed but they were .500 the second half of the season. its about chemistry and matchups. Everyone thought wade lebron and bosh would be great matchups… as far as i have seen lebron has been their only “consistent” positive matchup… which is sad. we have seen bosh demolished and wade…. wade has been owned by ray allen Twice, owned by the utah guards and was owned by brandon rush last night. Wade needs to wake up… This is almost a situation like it was in cleveland with the way bosh and wade are playing. Obviously when bosh and wade adjust to lebron (ya its clear they need to adjust to bron as bron already has adjusted to them) they will be a great team. but now? its gonna take time of course.

  • T-Money

jer dwag: pat is an excellent motivator and he has credibility that spo will never have. hell, that’s EXACTLY what he did with shaq/wade team. pat has done this before, many times, actually. spo came out int the press conference and said ‘i couldn’t get these guys to play for hard for me’. with pat on the bench, there won’t be any sulking on the court, i can tell you that.

  • YokoDMV

i’m with phil for once, he talks like he has group therapy with lebron n them and calls it “motivation” = soft #FIRESPOELSTRA

  • YokoDMV

if he was black he would have been fired #FIRESPOELSTRA

  • http://brimartin13@gmail.com Brion

  • jose

Didnt Zen master also say we could win 72 games? although i skimmed that article so that statement may go more in depth than how i view it

  • Omar

Stan Van Gundy is a brotha, we claim him. Jeff, on the other hand….

  • http://brimartin13@gmail.com Brion

you can have him for Blake Griffin?

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

  • truthteller

Eboy’s been a little quiet. What’s wrong? Your Heat aren’t doing as well as you thought they would? Don’t worry man, you’ve got plenty more games to lose…I mean get it together!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Nick

You can have Mike Brown too with Byron “Cross my hands” Scott on the side.

  • irrelevently relevent

  • Omar

LOL @ Tarzan tryin to give us a bunch of has-beens.

  • http://Www.slamonline.com Negativekreep

Spo is to coaching the Heat, what Coco was to hosting the tonight show. So all u guys getting all sensitive n’ ish over what PJ said need to chill, cause you know it’s true, and most of you bandwagonners have been crying out for riles since after game 1. Spo as coach of “the superteam” was a joke since day one. Look at Pat just trying to save face and act like he really planned on Spo being coach…fronting like he hasn’t been planning The same Jack move he made on Ron Jeremy a$$ word is bond.

  • Scottie Pimpin

“jedi mind tricks” – for realz !

  • BostonGent

That is a terrible thing to do and say by Jackson about another NBA coach. Is he getting senile and crazy now? That was cold blooded and totally unprofessional.

    Wow, the arrogance…

  • The Philosopher

Yeah, he threw Spoelstra under the bus.
But, there is no excuse. I, personally, would have came downstairs after the Memphis quagmire, but this is why I am here, and not there.
And, Phil Jackson is The G.O.A.T. He can say whatever he wants to say to/about anyone is his arena.

  • showtime

Eboy where u at ur super friend ain’t doing so well thank god atleast it shut u up

  • Groves

Why did he heat waive stackhouse when they signed Dampier… wouldn’t magloire or pitman be the ones considering they do nothing, ever

  • http://ohlaglambam.blogspot.com Zabba

Zen Master gets no bonus points for stating the obvious.

  • bashmo

i said this right after the `decision` was made by Lebron. Watch Riley come out of Coaching retirement. the man will return and coach the Heat, spoelstra will, unfortunately be demoted.

  • Ali

Phil has been throwing salt at players and coaches for over 20 years guys, c’mon now! this is nothing new, Hahaha…What’s really funny is that it’s the truth, and people don’t like to hear the truth. A**hole or not, he was asked his opinion and gave it. Let’s watch it all unfold. I give Spo about 2 weeks. If they drop below .500 it’s a wrap! SVG treatment all over again…

  • Morgan

@ All Day – I agree with your point with 1 exception. Phil has won 11 rings not 10 – and yes he can damn well say what he wants about coaching in the NBA.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/32JSE Yesse

Well i think Erik is too soft of a coach, but i think i still could blame the players a bit as well. If Pat would be coaching, i’m sure he could get it under control.

  • PapaBearATL

Jedi mind trick? Nah more like a ‘Mind F**k, ala Diddy in get him to the greek, lol. Like him or not a-hole or not, Phil Jackson is the master of pysche jobs in the NBA, from ref, to player, to coach comments! If any other coach said it, it probably would not have made this blog. BTW Bosch = Baby Sh*t, he’s soft and he stinks!

Common sense Spoelstra will be fired. Pat Riley is a snake and he could care less about anything, besides winning.

I can’t say that I really blame the man.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

STackhouse had a non-guaranteed contract that’s why he got sacked.

  • Kim mathenge

it won’t happen is a good coach and they are playing the thunder the eastern conf. people wanted him gone last year.
