Reggie Evans: ‘Kevin Garnett Has Always Been a Chihuahua’

Evans says what everyone already knows — that KG, despite the histrionics, never actually wants to fight anyone — but he uses funny words to describe him. From the Toronto Star: “Asked a question about the limits of NBA trash talk, it wasn’t long before Reggie Evans was engaging in some. ‘I’d love to see Charlie and KG in the ring. I’d pick Charlie,’ Evans said. ‘I’ve seen KG get his ass whupped. … He’s always barking, and when it’s time to get physical, he’s always been a little chihuahua’ … Evans said that, although he has “a lot of respect” for Garnett, he is not scared of him. On Friday, practising some trash talk while analyzing its powers, Evans rattled off a series of incidents in which Garnett, who is listed at 6-foot-11, has directed his aggression toward smaller players. ‘Anthony Peeler,’ said Evans, referring to a 2004 incident in which the 6-foot-4 Peeler stung Garnett with a shot to the stomach and jaw. ‘I’ve seen KG pick on (Raptors point guard) Jose (Calderon). I ain’t never seen him bark up a bear. He’s always being a little chihuahua. When he’s got a pit bull about to get on him, I’ve seen him back down. … That’s why I’ll take Charlie in the ring.’”

Uhm….I’ve been saying the same thing all week. Nice that Wedgie called him out.

  • http://bugmarley.com LeoneL

    Antonio McDyess agrees.

  • MrSabotage

Charlie is doing this to get some attention. Ain’t nobody likes him and he’s trying to get on SC. Yeah maybe garnett talks a lot…but he’s got a ring on a championship caliber team with respect from hall of fame teammates. What does charlie have???

  • http://www.twitter.com/CFleguel The Stro Show

Charlie Villanueva is no pit bull.

  • http://www.twitter.com/chris_griff_3 Chris_Griff_3

Why would KG get into a fight with anyone on a basketball court? Him getting ejected/suspended would be a major blow to the Celtics. I stick with my theory that Mike and Glove talked just as much, and were just as offensive in their on-court trash talk. This is nothing new. We just live in a different era. Everybody has gone soft.

  • reflex

    Cosign Evans, KG’s undoubtedly a great player but a he’s also a b**ch & a half

  • letsmotor

people say that KG “never actually wants to fight anyone” as if it’s a bad thing. the point of trash talk isn’t to show that you’re tough and willing to fight anyone. the point is to get in your opponent’s head so they turn it into a me against you thing and lose their focus on their team as a whole. clearly, if reggie’s saying stuff like this, KG’s doing what he set out to do.

  • JOE!

    Ain’t Charlie 6’11″ too?

  • twahc

    @letsmotor: well said.

  • baller3g

Whatever!! I personally saw KG getting ready to whup some a$$ a couple seasons ago. It was Earl Boykins, but I’m saying…..

  • spit hot fiyah

    lol@ baller3g

  • http://screwjams.tumblr.com cramzy

KG ain’t want none of the homie Bogut!…but fighting on the court is just dumb. That’s putting games and paper in jeopardy.

  • hoodsnake

Yeah Reggie will snuff KGs balls. Or something

  • Anon E Mouse

We all agree that fighting on court is silly…Entertaining but silly. The problem is that no grown man (or woman – peace Cheryl) wants to hear a load of hot air from anyone unless they know they can back it up.

Shit, even Reggie Miller would go for a double leg takedown and roll with you if you threw a fair one at him.

I mean Barkley would just be aload of hot air if you didn’t know that he’d eat (yeah I said eat) the shit out of you if you smack talked him the wrong way.

This is the League not And 1′s Greatest Smack DVD.

  • westeves25

Reading all these dumb comments are ridiculous… Trash talking is part of the game… If you play ball you know that trash talking will be involved always…. Why do you think that players are always talking about being mentally strong…. MJ, Reggie Miller, Dumars, Thomas, Larry Bird so on, and so on…. Did just as much trash talking, thus leading to more physical games…. KG is doing his job… and the C’s should get 2 W’s for the other night… One for winning and the other for hurting CV’s feelings…

  • Trevor

The KG hate is getting ridiculous. He talks trash to get in opponents heads, not because he thinks he can beat them up lol. Hes been doing it his whole career and he’s not the only player who’s ever done it. Just doing whatever he can to win. G*ddamn.

  • thegfunk

The Big Ticket: Hall of Fame. Nuff said. None of these players will ever have jack on Kgs game.

  • vtrobot

i think i might take earl over KG. don’t doubt earl. i’ve always trusted reggie’s opinion on most matters. he seems very bright.

  • http://slamonline.com MVPballer

Exactly letsmotor, it’s not about fighting anyone, it’s about getting in to your opponents head. Getting his focus off the game, and on you. I trashtalk all the time when I play ball, but afterwards we’re all cool.

  • tRay

This is ridiculous! Trash talk has been in this game for a very long time. Everyone needs to chill out and stop being so damn fragile. KG should say that Reggie Evans looks like Magilla Gorilla next.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

People apparently have made up their minds. It’s useless to debate now.
And Earl Boykins can bench press 315 pounds. I would take him over all of you.

  • Jumper

Who the hell is Reggie Evans?

I had to click on the link to his stat line to even verify that he was an nba player. Been in the league since 03 and has yet to break the 7pts per game line. Perhaps you have bigger fish to fry hombre. Congrats on staying in the league long enough to comment on future hall of famers as if you should actually be mentioned on the same website.

  • http://www.hoopsvibe.com/features/overdribbling chiqo

when you’re best known as a scrotum grabber, it really undermines your point. if you’re being technical, evans goes after the little guy on the court as well.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

If you’re commenting on a SLAM board and you don’t know who Reggie Evans is…you may want to discount your basketball knowledge and follow netball.

  • Sparker

reggie evans is currently #3 in the nba in rebounding, which, even though it is very early in the season, is impressive. but like eboy said, if ya don’t know the man, this may not be the site for you

  • MikeC.

Reggie doesn’t talk, he’s all action. Reach-around action.

  • James aka…

Trash is ok when its aimed at the game. Michaels trash for example was always subtle (and undending) taunts about your on court ability. Same with bird. Payton was a pain in the butt about the yapping so I think of him differently. Its not the trash though, its the type. Its getting right into someones personal space and saying something offensive. Its throwing cheap little elbows and then pretending you’re not (a la rodman, who btw got a tonne of flack for that in his day) combined with the in your face.

And he’s always been this way, its just he was once so good you ddidn’t think about it. I reemmber him on two occasions going after tim duncan with this nonesense, and then turning tail when TD lurched his way.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

    MikeC wins.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Nah, Chiqo wins.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

I guess chiqo wins by a hair.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    James AKA
You have no idea what MJ and Bird’s trash talk was about, be honest.
You know why? Because nobody ever ratted on them about what they said.
If KG said “You look like a cancer patient” he used very poor taste. But, it doesn’t make him a horrible person, it makes him a typical human being. Hell, folks exchange more demeaning insults than that on this very board.

  • catchmeimballin

it would be a chihuahua vs a naked mole rat..

  • Jman

The problem is not about K G wants to fight or not, it’s about he only trash talks to the little guys, he doesn’t pick his own size. If he’s going to trash talk, do it to everybody, not just to the little guys.

  • Lz – Cphfinest3

Exactly what I was saying about KG’s toughness on the tread the other day. Good to see that the actual players (or this one in particular) agrees. KG got a lot of bark but very little bite.

  • bails1

    Who’s Kevin Garnett?

  • http://www.twitter.com/chris_griff_3 Chris_Griff_3

Doc Rivers: “They had been talking all game, which is nothing unusual, but in front of the bench…when they got the tech, Kevin was out of the game and he looked over at the bench and you can hear Kevin yelling, ” You’re a cancer. You’re a cancer. Everywhere you go, your team loses. You’re a cancer.” That sounds much more like something KG would say, and it’s somewhat true. Pistons were a perennial contender until CV signed.

  • http://www.twitter.com/chris_griff_3 Chris_Griff_3

AllenP: MJ told Casey Jacobsen he was white, but not as kindly.

  • http://google c_cantrell

    lol at eboy.. very true

  • bashmo

Its all part of the game. Trash talking to just about everyone is what KG does. iunno why people are butthurt about this dude getting in the faces of his opponents during games. This can psyche out the enemy. And Reggie Evans commenting on KG? Come on Reg, have some respect, KG is a future hall of famer, former MVP, defensive player of the year, and former nba champion. On what grounds can you tlak about KG?

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Thank you Chris Griff for adding another perspective.
That sounds believable, particularly if you add in some expletives.
And again, KG gets into it with people of all sizes. However, he doesn’t do as much barking now to people who lack stature and game.

  • http://www.twitter.com/dfrance21 dfrance21

Its funny how people say he only picks on little guys, but then say he ran from Bogut, CV and McDyess. Those guys aren’t little guys, and except for CV the other two are pretty tuff. A lot of you guys just like repeating what these bloggers spit out. Letsmotor summed it up. You don’t talk trash on the court because you want to physically fight someone. You don’t talk trash to the great players because they know how to use it to their advantage. You talk trash to these weak-minded scrubs because it takes them out of their game. I guarantee the next time the C’s play the Pistons, CV has a crappy game because all that’ll be on his mind is KG.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

How the hell you gonna ask who Reggie Evans is? Most of us here known about Reggie Evans since his Iowa days. And he’s yet to “break the 7pts per game line” because he’s not a scorer, he’s a rebounder. You’d know that if you were actually an NBA fan. SMH.

  • al

Kg is at the point where you dont listen to what comes out his mouth. you may hear it, but you dont listen. Kg = childish. and those of you who say you ball n trash talk? you must play with your relatives or close friends, for sure.

  • Trevor

so charlie v is a little guy?

  • JD

I’d rather have KG playing mind games with the opposing team – it’s just fun too see other players’ reaction, lol

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

Eboy, we all know netball is the greatest sport alive. No dribbling? LeBron would average 90 points a game and still have time for a 8-part dance routine.

  • http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/olybb/news/story?id=5493184 Jackie Moon

    Kill the messenger!

  • DDB

Are people talking trash-talk…or cheap shot elbows for no reason? I thought the issue was KG throwing elbows and then backing down when someone steps up about…which is true to KG form.

  • MikeC.

Until someone mashes KG in the face and he stops doing what he does, then what he’s doing works. He pisses people off, takes them out of their game, and he wins. Done and done. C0ck-grabbing Reggie can talk all he wants. Where I’m from, dudes don’t grab other dude’s c0cks unless they have certain things on their minds.

  • JalepinoSausage

KG cried to get on that team. Like a Big Baby.

  • Ty

Wasn’t Reggie Evans the same pansy who grabbed Chris Kaymans balls when he was trying to box him out for a layup and than when Chris Kayman through his bummy @ss to the floor he stood their and didn’t do anything? Talk about a tough guy fraud.

  • Manu

who the f**k is reggie evans lmao? im from toronto n i dont even know the dude…..kg’s one of the 20 greatest players ever who cares if he can fight he skools u on the court which is what balls about

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/officerbarbrady what

KG may be a chihuahua, but Charlie V is a Mexican Hairless.

  • Mark

Trash talk is part of the game but ever since KG has been in Boston he has become a dirty player. I’m fine with trash talking but the guy is dirty and for some reason or another it has intesified this season. I have always thought KG is a great player but his rep as a dirty player has tarnished him substantially and I am surprised that someone hasn’t tried to take his weak, frail ass out yet. KG, you will make it to the Hall Of Fame, no question…but please, we all know you aren’t ‘tough’.

  • Ignarus

When referring to Reggie Evans, I prefer “the Ball Boy” to “Scrotum Grabber” because it captures both his notorious violation and his penchant for doing pretty much nothing legal on the court but get rebounds.

  • Ignarus

BTW, KG is allllll talk. Peeler punked him big time and he showed his true colors. Bosh is the same way. Hard to respect someone who talks “tough” (not just trash about the game) but tries to be all physically intimidating, but isn’t the real deal at all. Larry Bird and Dr. J tried to strangle each other. KG just stood there like a sullen doofus when he got clocked by a little dude. I respect KG’s talent, but not the empty histrionics. Sack up, dude.

  • Yes.We.Did.

That’s right, Let slim Rick Ross speak! KG was too soft to play center, hows he gon act like hes bad?
