The Heat Have Failed to Impress Tracy McGrady

The New York press cornered T-Mac in Detroit yesterday, and got his entertaining thoughts on the Miami Heat. From Newsday and the Daily News: “You can’t just go somewhere and have that type of chemistry [LeBron James] had in Cleveland,’ said McGrady, who added that the former Cavalier would have been better off playing in Chicago with point guard Derrick Rose. ‘Him, D-Wade [ Dwyane Wade ] and [Chris] Bosh, they don’t complement each other. They’re somewhat the same type of players, ‘Bron and D-Wade … Both of those guys need the ball and they don’t shoot the ball like Ray Allen. That’s why they’re having trouble scoring at halfcourt because they can’t get a rhythm because one of them’s dominating the ball. That guy might be getting off, but the other guy [isn't]. That’s why when they’re on the court together, they’re terrible.’ … McGrady feels that if James had made up his mind to leave Cleveland he would have been better off in Chicago with Derrick Rose as his running mate. ‘It was a better decision, a better place for him,’ said McGrady, who scored a season-high 13 points off the bench for the Pistons Sunday but was 0-for-3 after intermission.”

I’ve been saying the same thing…LeBron and D-Wade need the ball in their hands to be effective and neither one can play without the ball…I think the reason why D-Wade is struggling is because LeBron is the primary ball handler when they’re on the court together…their games are similar and don’t complement each other.

  • All Day

LeBron switching his number from 23 to 6 makes sense now…Miami retired the number 23 in honor of Michael Jordan, so LeBron would not be able to wear 23.

  • KING

LOL coming from a guy that hasnt been good since 06

  • http://sdfjlkf.com Jukai

Someone’s bitter that Miami didn’t give him a roster spot.

  • Ali

This is becoming really funny. Alot of people have been saying this since “The Decision” happened. Truth hurts…Admit it MIA, find a solution and press forward or continue to be rode and critized for every loss all year long. The Big 3 was not a good decision in MIA. It worked in Boston but the Boston organization did it the right way.

  • ShadiestBen

It took 3 comments for McGradys resume to be brought up. Doesn’t matter that what he’s saying is right then KING?

  • Jahmai

I’m glad LeBron didn’t go to Chicago, because DRose is just dominating right now. Leading Chicago to a winning record on their annual Circus Trip for the first time since Jordan retired. Rose thinks he could be MVP, well he’s damn rigt, he’s no 4 on NBA.com’s MVP list.

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

T-Mac just saying what everyobody else has been saying for a while, but as a player/coach/GM in the league you probably shouldn’t discuss other players/teams. I don’t know if I agree LBJ would hav been better off in Chicago, since he needs the ball in his hands so much, that would clash with D-Rose’s ability to be a ‘true’ point. What needs to happen in Miami is for LBJ to become the formal point – ala Magic – and concentrate on how to start the offense with 17 seconds left on the clock versus holding it until there are only 4 seconds to shoot.

  • LA Huey

I don’t get the Chicago argument. I understand that Wade and Bron are struggling because they’re both used to dominating the ball but how would Bron be better off playing with Rose? I’ll admit, I’ve only seen Rose play in about a dozen or so games in his NBA career but he’s been pretty dominate with the ball in the ones I’ve seen. Maybe Mr Crawford could shed some light?

They need to move LBJ to a 6th man role. But, his ego might not like that.

  • slamfan4life

    In yo face LeBron!

  • Robb

Lebron playing in Chicago would’ve been too much for him to handle. MJ’s shadow is too big and Lebron can’t play with any kind of pressure.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

T-Mac is droppin knowledge, stop all the hate

  • Cizzo

@King catts like you keep your panies in a bunch, and who gave you the Knick name King? Problaby on some super LBJ pole jocking with that one actually deffinately . Don’t bash T-Mac for his opinion. @ Nupe Bron need a guard who will tell him to get open I got this. He think he can create with the ball in his hand all the time but he can’t taking nine hundred dribble a possesion then a bailout pass late in the shot clock. And their too old in this modern day leaugue espcially coming offthe the bench. I’M TIRED OF BASHING THESE CATTS SERIOUSLY! BUT IT IS FUN WATCHING THEM COMMIT BASKETBALL SUICIDE…….

  • http://www.slamonline.com Negative Kreep

@the nupe. Thats what iv’e been thinking since day one. If you want to be showtime east..there needs to be a magic, LeBron at point would make perfect sence But he doesnt want to play PG. For what ever reason Wade seems like he’s the only one willing to change his game for the good of the team, and its not working for him perhaps because Bosh & Bron have been more concerned with getting themselves going and havent really played outside of their comfort zones.

  • riggs

he wouldve been better off with new york actually. a LOT of players to compliment him and an actual big.

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

So now McGrady is an idiot too. Priceless.

  • flash

    just trade lebron already!

  • http://yahoo.com Big O.

Everyone, please settle down, the Miami heat’s main problem has been their bench and their defense. It’s a fair augment to say that both Wade and Bron both need to dominate the ball to be effective because that’s what they have done in the previous years, but as I said earlier their main problems are defense, bench, and one more this defensive rebounds. Let start with defense, Bron and Wade is not recking havoc on the defensive end like they did in previous years and neither Bosh who is more concerned about playing a fenesse game. Chris Bosh averaged over 10 rebounds last year and is averaging well below that this year. Let’s not forget that Mike Miller hasn’t played a single game as yet in the regular season and was a key component to hitting open shot when Bron and Wade attracted the double and triple team. The bench with Eddie House overall has been very disappointed and have struggled to hit open shots. Not to mentioned Udonis
Haslem which was probably their best bench player is
also out. Defense and Rebounding and benching scoring is what this team is lacking right now. If they can fix these components by the All-Star break and everyone should be back by then, I do see the Heat coming out of the east to play the LA Lakers in the finals.

  • ab40

free lebron james. and thursday I’m rooting for cleveland. And tonight I hope john wall goes off. look unless bosh and james start rebounding. and wade and james start beasting the block like kobe does sometimes this team isn’t going anywhere. nobody can shoot on that roster. they should start chalmers. at least he can put pressure on the oposing point unless arroyo who’s no more than medicore at anything.

  • T-Money

1- He’s absolutely right that Bron and Wade are clashing in the halfcourt O but I fail to see how it would have been better with a shoot-first point guard like Rose. 2- Rose didn’t want either Bron or Wade BECAUSE he wants to keep the ball in his hands. He only reached out to Chris Bosh. 3- T-Mac wanted to play for Miami. Make of that what you will.

  • http://bulls.com airs

@LA, derrick has dominated the ball only because he had to. up until this year, he has had no one around him that could score efficiently. and when boozer comes back, i don’t see why he can’t get his at the same time

  • http://bulls.com airs

and i still don’t get how people call derrick a shoot first point guard. he simply does what is necessary to win. 7 assists could have been over 10 if his teammates would hit the shots he sets up for them.

but since they’re not, guess who has to score for them.

  • flash

true dat t-mac! except that i think the cavs are still the better fit for lebron. it was built for him especially now with byron scott as head coach.

  • http://twincityslim@yahoo.com Jahi

Lebron James should have signed to the NY Knicks. While Wade should have gone to the Bulls. Finally, Chris Bosh should have signed with the Rockets. My reasoning is that individually, they all would have benefitted from the aforementioned moves and league parity is more profitable, especially in a league “bleeding” money. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this team blown up next year. The little “3″ doesn’t have the chemistry of the top 5 teams, period.

  • Max

Bring either Wade of Lebron off the Bench. Give them a team each, play a ten man game. Maybe Miller, Big Z/Bosh(Spread the Floor), Mario, Lebron/Wade, and Damp(Clog the middle) can be one team. Jones, Arryo, Lebron/Wade, Bosh/Big Z, and Damp/Howard…My opinion i guess…..

  • Red

Derrick can get 20+ with 14 assists, as he has before.

Big O your defense of the Heat is lame, its because of Mike Miller & Haslem? LOL Plus Miller isn’t the ‘last piece’ so shut up you coat tail riding dummy.

  • NJ4Life

Lebron in Jersey with a solid post scorer in Lopez, a quick penetrating pg in Harris, a deadly shooter in Morrow to keep the D honest and Derrick Favors doin the dirty work. Coulda woulda shoulda…

  • http://yahoo.com Big O.

@Red, obvious you’re not paying attention, I said that the main factors are defense and rebounding are the most important things that they are not doing. But having Mike Miller and Udonis Haslem also hurt the team. And not to mention that they probably have the worst bench production in the entire league. Red, I wouldn’t comment on the fact that you called me a coat tail riding dummy, it’s apparent that you lack confidence in your ability to have an intelligent conversation and you’re just as iliterate as u sound.

  • O

LeBron should’ve signed with the Knicks. Not only would he have had a better big man in Stat, but look at the role players that would’ve surrounded him. Felton (An actual PG), Fields, Gallo, Turiaf, etc. Not to mention the free agents they’ll be able to sign in coming years (if there isn’t a lockout). Knicks and Heat would’ve been better off and it would’ve gave new life to an old rivalry. That said, wouldn’t it be HILARIOUS if Riley trades D-Wade in order to keep James happy in South Beach?

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

How can anyone believe any other team besides the Bulls were the better choice for him? Yeah, Wade and Bosh and all that. But Rose, Deng, Gibson, Noah, Boozer? Come on now! Anyways, what’s done is done, and the Bulls will be just fine without dude.

  • Nate C

Headline should have read: Tracy Mcgrady has failed to impress…..anyone…..ever

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I still firmly believe the heat were the right team. I don’t however think giving away michael beasley to sign mike miller, big z and resign james jones was anywhere close to the right decision.

  • Michael

    @nate c, ur an idiot.

  • http://bulls.com Harry Twatter

    @Enigmatic I second that

  • unrel

lebron in the chi would have been the same issue.. because d-rose dominates the ball also.. should have been bron, bosh/stat, joe johnson.. and/or.. dwade, bosh/stat, joe johnson.. they should have just did the school yard thing.. with bron and wade as captains in miami and new york.. and just picked their squads.. shoot for first pick..

I thought Tracy McGrady was “jealous as s**t,” of Miami’s big three. Now he’s saying it won’t work? LOL…T-Mac is sounding more and more like Starbury.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

50/50 that Phil Jackson goes to Miami.

  • First & Foremost

^^ Exactly, before their preseason game he was asking for a tryout. If they started 17-0 he’d have said, “See that is exactly why I wanted to be on their team because those two work so well together. They are like the polar opposite of John and Tayshaun.”

“I’m jealous, but I’m happy for them (Heat). I hope they win 10 damn championships,” said Tracy McGrady.

  • http://zoran_dakovic@hotmail.com RickyRude

Props to Tmac for speaking his mind even tho his numbers really don’t justify his stand to make the point. Nothing but the truth, it takes a lot for a man to come out and say that.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

And the Bulls are about to look even better since Boozer will probably be playing, if not this week, then most likely next week.

  • Ptown

From a basketball standpoint the bulls are a better fit because they have a better starting five and all the pieces complement each other. Plus Rose is a true Pg that has no problem deferring to a player like Lebron. For everyone saying that Rose didn’t want lebron on the bulls Rose who’s not the most vocal guy in the world to kiss Lebron’s ass and call him and recruit him is insane. Its obvious lebron didn’t want to shoulder the responsibility of being the man, and that’s why he chose miami

  • Shem

    LBJ to Orlando

Tracy should just retire. At this stage in his career, he’ll clearly make a better analyst than a player.

Dacre you done smoked urself retarded. Phil Jackson + Pat Riley under the same roof? Eh eh.Not on this planet. That would mean Phil outshining Riles in the only way he’s yet to..as coach of the Heat. And dont get it twisted Riles is one of the most competetive mofo’s of all time. Can u say legacy?

  • Shawn Kemp is a Great Great Grandfather !!!

red : ur too stupid , like the idea of Bron playing 6th man.

THE MIAMI CHILL – Where hard work doesn’t happen.

  • 2dope

Coming from a career underachiever. McGrady never put in a days work in his life.

  • Justin

It doesn’t matter if McGrady says it, a reporter says it, or the schmoe up in the far reaches of the stands says it. It’s the truth. Why do people think that you have to have won something to have a valuable opinion? Is John Stockton not an authority on how to play the game because never won a title? Give me a break! Lebron needs to develop a good post game and both he and Wade need to learn to play off the ball

  • truth hurts

STFU tmac, you cant even complement your cousin vince carter in toronto.

what the hell is t mac saying, u know wat dissopoints me t mac the fact u cant play worth a s*** no more thats what dissapoints me. plus kobe SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jumpmanjay23

Just to let some of ya’ll know, Rose only dominates the ball now because he has to. I watched him in high school, AAU, Memphis, and even his rookie year where Rose had no problem deferring to his teammates.

For those Bulls fans that are saying they are fine without one of these Miami big 3 players are crazy. The Bulls could’ve add Wade or Lebron and still have Boozer or Bosh. Truth is, Wade or Lebron would have elevated this team to another level (because the Bulls are still mid-level).

  • bball40

1st of all who is t-mac??? He can’t beat anybody on the team and went from a primetime player to 10 mins a game lol so obv he definitly can’t tell anybody the best place to be or what needs to be done in order to be a good ball club!

  • OvaChicken

This is funny. Every time yall post disses towards Miami on SLAM they come through. Amare was the last victim. Cant wait till the next time T-Mac comes to Miami now or vice versa. Looks like Bosh has got his head right judgin by the post(NY) game interview. KEEP BURNIN EM’ MIAMI !! Haters keep it commin’ too. Yall just fuel to the fire :-)

  • JaeAmazin

It was Miami’s lost not picking up TMac..He couldve deff ran the point..He’s been getting it done this season..And every other season when he has been healthy..And with a 29ppg avg in the playoffs..I really don’t see how his 1st round curse is his fault

  • Dru

Says the guywho just scored a season high 13 points off the bench after dropping 18 on san antonio in 13 secs 2 seasons ago/.. I just noticed mcgrady would be great calling games and just hang em up

  • Zach

You have to trust T-Mac when he’s talking about stuff like this… Guy has his eyes on everything. Literally… He’s looking in 30 different directions at all times.

Anyway, I agree. How can you expect a team to be good with 3 max contracts and the rest mins?

  • g gilliam

does anybody REALLY care what tracy mcgrady says; another washed up dude (is he STILL stealing millions) hating on the Heat`s chance(s) of winning championships

  • Rols

Who is this Tracy McGrady guy and why is he named after a girl?

  • big LA

Tracy mc can’t even lead detroit to the playoffs he isgarbage and needs to retire noboby even know if he isaround shutup tracy and getyour game back

  • Thegodsbwitus

Well its May 23 and the heat are still contending for a championship in there first year as a unit. with a subpar bench and a center that can’t catch under the basket consistently. i think its working T-Mac.

  • merrisauz

I’m not a heat fan, but indeed a basketball fan and love to see players and teams rise to the challenge. @Thegodsbwitus it does seem like it is working as they look to close out Bulls this week. Anybody whom has played the game should have know that that they would eventually get things together. Tmac and what he has done and not done should not even been interviewed. He is done, disgruntled and on the way out.. Kind of like the veterans at work who need to retire and seem so negative about everything… I must say though, I didn’t know the freakin Mavs were this good! They indeed have a deeper team than Miami, but can the German native son get the job done this time?

  • runegood

so anyone feel like they wanna retract any of their statements?

  • joe

this is ridiculous tmac was such the boss he has cred, why do people jock him bc hes hurt..

  • The Deacon

Funny how T-Mac ha this to say when he has no more shine! Please the man has been to the Finals two times now. How Many have you gotten there? or got out of the first round? Lebron and D-Wade will win a Championship in time the league is Athletic and they need a more polished shooter, but no one thought the Heat would get out of the east for real so. I’m tired of the haters.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Amare Excuses

    Tmac is Rigth

  • http://www.slamonline.com Amare Excuses

Miami heat could have won the title if they didn;t trade beasley away for a 2nd round draft pick

  • supreme_kickz

Please show T-Mac some respect, we all know you b*tches loved him when he was in his prime so shut it. T-Mac is right, two elite scoring players cannot complement each other on the court because one of them will be demanding the ball. If I was Spoelstra I would give D-Wade the ball in the 4th quarter because we all know what happened to Bron Bron.. (choke) lol.
P.S. T-Mac from ’04 would give Bron Bron a problem on the court. just saying. :)
