Injured Amar’e Stoudemire Needs Some Backup in NY

The Knicks are in the midst of a three-game losing streak, and their hurting star needs a bit of help. From the NY Post: “The Knicks specifically need a backup point guard and big man to allow Raymond Felton and ailing Amar’e Stoudemire additional rest. They both looked exhausted during the three straight losses to the Celtics, Heat and Cavaliers. Stoudemire’s health has become an issue. He’s playing with a sore neck that has limited his game, but not his minutes. Backup point guard Toney Douglas is fighting through his latest aliment, an undisclosed shoulder injury that is hurting his jump shot and making him less frenetic on the defensive end. Douglas, shooting 39.3 percent, hasn’t been truly healthy this season, and even played through a strained back the first two weeks. Some backup point guards who may be expendable include Orlando’s Jason Williams, Minnesota’s Sebastian Telfair, Cleveland’s Ramon Sessions and Utah’s Earl Watson. The Knicks could release still-rehabbing Kelenna Azubuike, whose contract expires after the season, to open up a roster spot and sign a player from the D-League or a free-agent veteran … With the Knicks (16-12) facing four rugged games to close out 2010 against Oklahoma City, Chicago, Miami and Orlando — the latter two on the road — [Donnie] Walsh wants to do something beyond dealing for [Carmelo] Anthony. Walsh said he would ‘evaluate’ the Knicks during this past week to see what they need.”

  • marc

how come roger mason does not play?

  • T-Money

I can’t take a team seriously when they need to play all of their starters 40+ minutes to compete in December and have Wilson Chandler starting at the 4 (and I actually love him as a 2!). New York is a fraud and is getting exposed right now, Mo Williams and Varejao where running the PnR like Stock and Mailman against them. Embarassing.

  • bnets

their schedule really really really sucks right now too, they shoulda beat the cavs haha

  • biged

They should tank this season, draft a big man center, sign Melo in the off season, trade for Paul in the off season, sign a couple of veteran bigs. Then go hard next year. The Knicks right now is like building a street race car; the new motor is in and the car can run but the turbo isn’t setup yet and the car isn’t tune…
There a season ahead of their prime

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Co-sign T-Money about Wilson Chandler starting at the 2. Not sure why they don’t do that. But screw your dissing of my team!

  • LD

They gotta do something, that ish isn’t gonna fly in the playoffs.

  • Groves

Rafer Alston/Allen Iverson/Mike James/Jamaal Tinsley/Stephon Marbury/Penny Hardaway/ Gary Payton (he hasn’t been out that long has he? still has game)

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Maybe the Mavericks would be interested in swinging a trade of JJ Barea for Keleena Azabuike and a 2nd round pick? Gives the NYK a serviceable PG to give Felton a rest while keeping the tempo up and as the Mavs retain or even let Aza’ go, they get another draft pick to through in the mix for next season….
    ___
I know… it’s too realistic of a trade to present right?

  • Rabbitman

haha, yeah a week ago people were asking, are they contenders?, just an easy part of the schedule they took advantage of, now they are back to the mediocre team they are

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

through should be throw… wow, thats not even PRONOUNCED the same…!?!?
    ___
Also, the Knicks DO have a big man they can utilised….. EDDY CURRY ANYONE!!?!?!?!?!???!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!??!!!

  • TSmoove

Agree wit Dacre … the choose not to play Eddy Curry at least let him take some fouls away from Amare…i kno Curry has to have more post moves than Mosgov…i mean he had to learn somethin while he was on the bench…right?

  • Paul

They’re looking for a backup for Felton. How would Iverson be an option for that?

People, people. Let’s not get carried away with the Knicks hate. We’re a franchise that are struggling (on court) and have been for a long time. Sensible fans just want to see a return to competitiveness. Let’s get the facts straight, a week ago THE MEDIA were playing up the whole contenders/rivals to the Celtics/Heat or any other decent team argument. Again the real fans just want to see some good ball and a touch of defence. We ain’t going anywhere far with D’Antoni’s brand of D. Meaning none. That just ain’t Knicks ball.

They should sign Antoine Walker and let him run the pt forward.
