Joe Dumars: Pistons Not Looking to Trade Rip Hamilton

Despite incessant calls from fans and media to make a move — any more, really — Joe D swears that nothing trade-related is brewing in Motown. The Free Press reports (via FanHouse): “So what’s it gonna take to turn the Pistons around? Just about everyone would immediately say, ‘they gotta make a trade or two.’ Normally, in the next breath, two names are offered up as trade bait by fans: Tayshaun Prince and Richard Hamilton. AOL’s FanHouse.com’s Tim Povtak spoke with Hamilton after Tuesday’s loss in Orlando. He talked about getting used to coach John Kuester and how today’s team is a totally different situation to contending for the NBA championship. But back to the possibilty of a trade. What say you, Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars? ‘We don’t have anything whatsoever on the table in terms of a trade, or anything even remotely close to a trade, for Rip Hamilton,’ Dumars told FanHouse Tuesday. ‘Nothing.’”

Rip deserves should be on a championship contender.

can every article be about a GM or owner denying trade rumors?

@Jukai, after denying that Hamilton and Arenas won’t be traded, it would be hilarious if they were traded for each other. LOL

Hamilton for Arenas trade actually makes alot of sense for both teams…Detroit needs a PG and Hamilton plays very well with a good PG feeding him the ball off of screens. Not to mention the Wiz could use a starting quality SG and some veteran leadership.

Also, the headline on this article is misleading…Dumars didn’t say he wasn’t looking to trade Hamilton, he just said there isn’t anything on the table currently.

    hahahahahaha, nice niQ

i think dumars needs to start trying to make some trades, instead of waiting, especially after the whuppin cleveland laid on us last night

Joe D has his hands tied until the ownership situation gets settled. Prince has an expiring and definately a quality glue guy on a contender, so I would hate to let him sit on the team when we obviously need help. Rip’s contract is probably too terrible for anyone to take on, so Ben Gordon might be on his way out. He deserves way better than the way we’ve treated him. He’s younger, smaller contract, more desirable. Looks like another long year for the Pistons.

Mike Ilitch was supposed to be the owner by now but we now have open bidding once again. There’s a rumor that some wealthy businnessmen from Dubai are interested, along with Tom Gores, etc. I guess Magic was interested in a minority share but he’s going to buy an NFL team and bring them to LA???

@ hambone – Bynum has been terrible and Gilbert Arenas a far superior distributor than Stuckey. Arenas is a scoring PG, Stuckey is a SG who can ocasionally slide over to PG. Detroit doesn’t have anyone to run their offense effectively for long stretches. Their biggest need is a center, but next is a decent PG.

I’m not getting it. Is he trying to say that Rip isn’t going to be traded? Or is he saying that no team wants Rip?

snasty: haha, you just made a pretty ballin mistake. I’ll let you figure it out.

that’s because he has an un-tradeable contract right?

  • Rainman

    why the HECK not?!!?!

WTF is wrong with u Dumars?!

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

“Hamilton for Arenas trade actually makes alot of sense for both teams…”
Yeah, because the Pistons totally need 17mil on their roster for the next four years for a guy proven to be the definition of unreliable. Good idea.

Je, I saw that too, and did a double take. Very funny. Rip and tay have to go. Maybe lal would trade ron for tay. Like ron would ever go to detroit. Pistons are going nowhere fast.. ……. Whatever happened to tadone?

  • barnabusb

As a Pistons fan, I wish we could just unload Rip for scrubs. I don’t even want equal value at this point. He needs to go, and we need a more balanced roster. Ben Gordon is shooting the lights out, but he only gets a few shots per game, which is unbelievable. Gordon should be starting and jacking up shots left and right.

Sorry Richard, no parole from NBA purgatory for you.
