Nuggets Looking to Trade J.R. Smith?

ESPN has sources claiming that the mercurial Smith may land in the Windy City, but it all hinges on what happens with the Melo Man: “A league source told ESPN.com that Denver also is in discussions with Chicago regarding a J.R. Smith trade, and the Nuggets have other long-term roster decisions to make, including whether they will seek to move Chauncey Billups in a trade. But nothing can happen until they know what the future holds in regards to Anthony, whose No. 1 desire is to be dealt to New York and to sign a three-year contract extension worth nearly $65 million that would pair him alongside Amare Stoudemire through the 2014-15 season. The deal Denver can make with the Knicks right now might be better than the deal New York would be willing to make a month from now, or two months from now. And the Nuggets are determined to not lose Anthony with nothing in return as the Cavs did with LeBron, and the Raptors did with Chris Bosh. Anthony told FanHouse he expects a resolution by the Feb. 24 trade deadline.”

OK I know we’re hurting for a SG that’s a legitimate offensive threat but JR Smith?? We had dude a few years back and let him go without him ever putting on a Bulls uni, because of his additude and antics. He hasn’t changed since, so what’s the difference now?? And who would we have to give up to get him? I’m not liking this deal, the Bulls chemistry is solid right now, they shouldn’t risk it.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

I’m not so sure I want J.R. on the Bulls either. Like you said, who’d they have to give up? and Smith’s a special talent but he’s too hot and cold in my opinion.

  • http://shinefluid@aol.com just bcuz

look j.r smith is just what the bulls need.Another guy who can score/shoot and actually handle the ball to take some of that pressure off d.rose making every play. good size and can defense his positon. I LIKE IT! As far as his antics and whatever, what antics?? he seems to be doing well coming off the bench for the nuggets.Remember when they made that run to the west conf finals?? he was a beast. i think its a risk the bulls should take.Besides if you are any kind of bulls fan YOU KNOW keith bogans is NOT the answer at starting 2 lol

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

You have a point, just bcuz. Plus, I just read somewhere that the deal, if it happens, would likely be James Johnson and Keith Bogans for JR. If that’s the case, I say pull the trigger. JJ has potential but it’s been another up and down year, and Bogans isn’t giving us much more than the occasional scrappy defense. I’m starting to like it.

The Hornet’s should really consider making an offer. They need another scorer badly.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

@Enigmatic, JJ and Bogans for J.R.? Really? I can’t beieve it, that means the bulls can get him for free. Why the hell would the Nuggets do that. That’s like a mini Pau Gasol.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

Thats a good deal for the Bulls. He brings excitement and scoring.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

@Jahmai – well, they’re likely not gonna trade Brewer or Korver. They sure as hell are not gonna trade Taj. If they trade CJ that leaves them with John Lucas as the only other point guard. So that leaves them with JJ and Bogans, and the Nuggets can take it or leave it. That’s the most likely scenario anyways.

J.R. Smith seems to be in the same boat as T.J. Ford in the sense that each is always on the trading block. I would like to see Brewer get more minutes in Chicago before they make any move. He is more that capable of running an offense. He did it in college. He isn’t a high scorer but he is an efficient one. He could easily improve to 15+ points per 36 with more minutes. Smith is just too streaky for my tastes and is a defensive liability.

jr smith to the bulls or the magic

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

A lineup that includes Rose, Boozer and J.R. Smith will be destroyed by every team in the league on defense.
I promise you this. You think Boozer doesn’t rotate on defense, wait until you see Smith. Did y’all not notice that JJ Reddick absolutely killed him last night, and it was simply because J.R. does not understand the very basics of defense?

  • http://google c_cantrell

^smith is a liablilty on defense.. i mean come on he has played in denver for how long? lol

  • Pharoah

JR is the one of the biggest x-factors in the league. When hes on fire, the Bulls are legit contenders

  • tavoris

Allenp-JR understands the basics…he just doesn’t care about them. I’ve seen him lock up when he want to put forth the effort, so it’s merely an issue of a lack of effort. At this stage in his career, I doubt if anybody thinks he’ll ever “get it”.

  • jose

The Knicks should look at him if melo don’t work out…then have him and Chandler Swap around at the 2 and 3…

  • greg

well he has been playing smarter and if ne1 can teach him the right way to play its thibs

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

Who is this allenp lame, who dont know what hell he is talkin bout?

  • http://google c_cantrell

    ^greg..
thats right.. if he was to play for thibs he would have to play d or he would simply sit on the bench

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

I just laugh when I think about skiles reaction to getting jr in the chandler trade.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Nice to meet you Slic Ric.
    Tavoris
I disagree. I watched him try hard against Reddick last night and still get torched. I watched him try hard against Kobe in the playoffs and get embarrassed.
He doens’t understand angles, he doesn’t under footwork, he doesn’t think ahead on defense. He plays defense exactly the way he plays offense.

  • unrel

JR Smith will kill a young team’s chemistry..

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I watched J.R. Smith play defense for two entire seasons when Iverson hooped for the Nuggets and I watched all their games.
You all will see. You will see.

  • tavoris

lmao I don’t disagree…I guess it’s a matter of his athleticism making up for the lack of skill. However, I don’t see how he couldn’t have learned how to D up after being in the L a half-decade.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Tavoris, nash has been around since 96, whats his excuse? Some guys just cant play defense.

  • http://google c_cantrell

    ^tarzan..
    good point

  • http://slamonline.com LAKERSLEGEND

JR SMITH TO BULLS? YES DO IT!

  • unrel

i like his game a lot.. quick.. can play the 1/2.. puts in buckets.. is a problem for any defense when he’s hot.. but he’s a head case.. in close games.. he’s going to make a stupid pass, fire up an idiotic 3, get a tech for throwing up Bs after a 3.. something.. for a young bulls team.. it’s not good.. he needs to go somewhere where the stars can keep him in check..

  • Omar

Streaky shooter, defensive liability and total idiot but it would be a good move for Chi, when he’s on gives them exactly what theyre missing but the other 95% of the time….

I hope I got that number exact so we can avoid yesterday’s nonsense, lol.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Jr smith scares me with all those tats, but he sure is sexy.

  • http://slamonline JTaylor21

    Cosign BossTerry, I agree 100% he’s hot.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Bobcats could use him, they need some one that can explode offensively and I believe MJ can get his head straight. Trade Jackson and maybe number 2 pick for Smith. Bobcats aren’t going anywhere with Jackson as their suppose best player.

  • robz

trade him 2 bulls for brewer

  • dma

JR Smith needs to be on team wearing red to succeed. Not saying he’s a blood or anything.

  • tavoris

Hey Tarzan-if JR was a 2-time MVP (deserved or not) and 35% as consistent as Nash, I’d give him a pass too.
