Report: OJ Mayo to the Knicks?

We already know the Knicks are high-strung on landing Carmelo Anthony, but a source tells Adam Zagoria that New York could be making a play for OJ Mayo in a separate trade. Mayo recently lost his starting spot to rook Xavier Henry: “In a separate matter, Memphis Grizzles guard O.J. Mayo could be on the move soon, and a source close to his family thinks he could end up with the Knicks. ‘They’re gonna move him next week and I think he’s gonna end up in New York,’ the source said. D’Antoni appears to have lost faith in shooting guards Andy Rautins and Kelenna Azubuike. Rautins is completely out of the mix and D’Antoni has said he doesn’t think Azubuike has recovered sufficiently from his knee surgery to contribute. Still, a second source close to the Knicks said he thought the Mayo acquisition was unlikely.”

Andy Rautins is a good player. He was amazing in the Canadian national team and D’Athony is missing out on him. give him a break man

WE DON’T WANT HIM…all he does is shoot…..he will STUNT the tremendous growth of LANDRY FIELDS…..Landry Fields will be a much better All-Around SG in his 4th yr in the league that O.J. Mayo is now…..PERIOD!!!!

I have Azubuike in my NBA 2k11 roster and i lost faith in him!

Would be eff’ing perfect in Chicago.

Do we need Mayo? Just put Amare at the 2. He’s doing everything else, he might as well space the floor for himself.

  • Omar

Lol @ Grizz Fan – I bet you guys would take Chandler for Mayo.

Not to stir the pot but I’m pretty sure Melo’s close to Mayo. Atleast he was when he entered the league. In any event when the knicks become competent franchise. They continue to make good moves if this is true

Honestly I think the only reason andys on the knicks is to Ty and convince Melo to come. He’s a pure pt guard who can shoot he shud get a shot somewhere

We should get ok mayo, mephis is stupid he is a great player!!!!

This whole epidemic of “Big 3″s have made me nearly lose faith in NBA. Its gonna eventually spit the league to where theres 5 or 6 seriously talented teams with everyone else suffering without any major superstar. These ring-chasers like LeBron need to stop looking for extra players to pick up their slack and remain loyal.

Um…. maybe Andu Rautins is out of the mix because he hasn’t even had a chance to play yet. D’Antoni, maybe put him on the floor and you’ll see what he can do.

  • rich

nah they need som 1 a lil more explosive and bigger go for kevin martin

Wilson Chandler should be the starting small forward or the starting shooting guard.

Knicks fans should not get their hopes up for this trade. Read the key thing in this report “a source close to his family thinks he could end up with the Knicks”.Translation: really means someone in Mayo’s family wants him to go to a big media market because he’s no longer starting and is in a small town in Memphis.

i dunno, im a fan of mayo, but does he really help coming to the knicks?

I like o.j (spread the mayo)..he’s still young and hungry. memphis isn’t really worried aout him with the way rudy gay is playing so I bet they would prefer to let him walk… we need a gd sg. But I wouldn’t let fields or douglas go. in that case I would trade anthony randolph and for memphis 1st pk an either azibuke or bill walker for mayo’s expiring rookie contract. since azibuke also has a expirin contract im pretty sure somebody team can get an injury excepti on on him… besides mayo can attempt to paly some pg even though he didn’t do to well durin summerleague.. lets do this ny

o yea rautins can go too….sorry boi..maybe use him for another scenario

Landry Fields is ok, but Mayo can actually play decent man to man defense. And is a much better shooter, so he’s definitely an upgrade. If all they have to give away is Randolph, Azuibuke and say Douglas, then I think its a good trade. Melo will be too costly to obtain IMO, they should just wait him out until FA and hope Dallas doesn’t find a way to get him before the deadline.

nooo memphis has to keep mayo…xavier henry is crap right now

I like Mayo’s game honestly. He’s getting wasted in Memphis because he doesn’t get enough ball and not utilized properly. They just want him to be a spot-up shooter all the time. Now that he’s moved as a sixth man, he still doesn’t get enough ball thrown in his way. With all of that he’s never been an a*s to his team. He does what’s asked. So maybe a change of surroundings and a offensive-oriented team like the Knicks would do great.

remember when people thought mayo for love was a bad trade?
