Cavs to Hire Homeless Guy with Great Radio Voice

… and give him a house to boot. Well done! From the Cleveland Plain Dealer: “The Cavaliers and Quicken Loans were so taken with the story of Ted Williams, the homeless man from Columbus with the golden voice, that they have offered him an unspecified job with the team and assistance with housing. ‘When you know something’s right, you just have to launch,” said Tracy Marek, senior vice president of marketing for the Cavaliers. ‘One of the big things that we talk about here with our organization is how important urgency is, and when you see something that feels good and seems right, the important thing that we wanted to do is to let Ted know that we have something here for him that we wanted to talk to him about because he’s getting so flooded by offers.’”

Can’t wait ’til ‘Homeless Guy’ bobble head night! Seriously… great story.

  • Marvin

Great story but he needs to pick better words for hiring a guy other than “urgency” with “see something that feels good and seems right”.

Haha, cool story.. I hope things turn around for him..

  • Jackie Moon

Article doesn’t say what the job is.

  • LA Huey

Damn Cavs killed my prediction of only making the news this year via LeBron James massacre and crappy team. NBA Cares, good for them.

  • Overtime

    this is AWESOME

  • izee

    hahahahah!!! omg, dope! lmao

  • PlanetAsia14

I agree with Overtime, awesome indeed.

I heard about this on the radio earlier today. The dude is 71! Good for him. I like to see that he willingly admits drugs and alcohol was the problem. Hopefully this Cav’s thing works out.

Great story, I hope this guy can get his life turned around and that whatever money he makes just doesn’t contribute to his addictions. I’m all for second chances and I hope he makes the best of his.

Give it 7 years and he will be working in Miami.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Betcats ftw!. ……….. …. So heres the formula for all the other out of work homeless folks, become an internet sensation, someone will realize the marketing potential and ‘hire’ you. ……. …..This is like what jvg calls ‘fake hustle’.

  • rob stewart

    @Tarzan Cooper
I do believe it’s possible for people to help needy people just because it benefits them and/or makes them look good. The awesome thing about that is such acts can also be blessings from God for that needy person.

  • unrel

send him to the rookie seminars so he learns how not to be homeless again..

  • KwamePooh

he will get jawad williams`minutes on the floor

  • http://www.slamonline.com Clyde

Wow that’s awesome, good to see stuff like that in a world where people dismiss each other unless they have something to gain.

  • D-Block

I would buy NBA league pass if this dude winds up calling games. My man is about to have the radio game on smash! Shout out to Chris Gardner!!!

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Idk if clyde was being sarcastic, but the cavs only did this because they have something to gain.

  • http://sjfklfsl.com Jukai

Good for the Cavaliers. Something I can get behind.

  • Michael

    dope story. Betcats wins.

  • dma

So what happens when he fails the drug screening?

  • MikeC.

Maybe his job is to poke Lebron with a dirty needle the next time the Heat come to town.

  • BE.water

I seen this dude a couple days before on a website, golden radio voice indeed! Nice to see someone willing to give him a chance

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

We have still a little hope for humanity, yet.

  • http://www.oprah.com Doyouwantmore

Nice to see someone taking their talents somewhere positive.

  • ktokyo

    Great move by the Cavs.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

How does no one else see that this is just a marketing ploy?. The cavs didnt give two shtts bout this dude last week. This is so fake, its absurd.

  • http://Philosophervision@blogspot.com The Philosopher

Whatever the intentions are, it is still helping someone. Now, he can have a job, get cleaned up, haircut, some teeth, etc.
Maybe even find a good woman.
    Only in America.

    pipes of gold

Great story, I wish this man my very best. Also, classy moves (job & house) by the Cavs.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Great story. Best of luck to this man, and good on the Cavs for doing this. Everyone deserves a second chance.

  • Tony Emetu

Wow! That is so sad….I’m so happy that he found work…..GOD has shown him mercy and my heart rejoice for him!

  • add

nice of the cavs to do that

  • jrok

4 real???? yeah for better or worse intention regardless which one it was they did help him out, good on him hope he makes the best of it

  • Dre Baller

he then rejected the Cavs offer and decided to bring his talented golden voice to South Beach and signed with the Heat

  • Ali Saadat

and they want me to go to college…

  • Justin

Leave it to Tarzan to be the voice of negativity. Shocking

  • 4th qtr hero

Yep, everybody is going to jump on you for your comments. Seriously we all know that this is a publicity stunt and it still might end badly but things look good now and it’s a positive news story. Helping others to help yourself. Capitalism at it’s finest. By the way, Tarzan, don’t you know that all the writers and editors at SLAM magazine get paid to produce a product we enjoy. The bastards.

  • BostonBaller

Great story and I pray that it works out for Mr. Williams. Let’s not nit pick the wording from The Cavs, just be happy that someone is getting help.

  • ClydeSays

Very cool. Dude’s got an insanely smooth voice.

God bless and good luck to Ted Williams! What a story. I hope he makes his mother/family proud and stays on the right track with this second chance in life coming his way.

  • http://Philosophervision@blogspot.com The Philosopher

    He looks like Geraldo Rivera…

  • Yesse

I’m glad he got a job. He would also look like an awesome anchorman is his hair and teeth would get fixed.

  • izzo

Tarzan: Porbably because nobody has tried to suggest that it was anything else. Still though, continue with the cynacism. It’s so hard to find on the internet.

  • kulas

Talk about negativity. The cavaliers are willing to help the man because he can also help the cavaliers with his talent. It’s not like he doesn’t have anything to offer them at all. Also, if it is indeed a marketing ploy for their gain, at least they’ve helped someone rather than them not caring or just choosing to be a spectator.

  • OvaChicken

    Props to all parties here.
