Clippers Willing to Trade Chris Kaman

by Ryne Nelson

What do you do with Chris Kaman?

Fifty percent of the time, the 28-year-old looks great — a true center with solid footwork, a big body, scoring touch and heart. Another 40 percent of the time, Kaman is injured (over the last four years, he’s missed 111 of a possible 284 games). He spends the other 10 percent of the time transitioning.

His contract ends after next season, and, according to Marc Stein, the Clippers are listening to offers. But they don’t want just anyone. The Clippers want a small forward with a ‘reasonable contract.’

So… what do you do?

“L.A. is saying, at least for now, that it is likely to keep Kaman through the deadline unless moving him results in a clear upgrade at small forward. An upgrade with a reasonable contract, that is.

That presumably rules out a move for the long-term deals of Philadelphia’s Andre Iguodala or Charlotte’s Gerald Wallace. Detroit’s Tayshaun Prince, with an expiring contract valued at $11.1 million, fits the Clips’ parameters better, but the Pistons — despite their longstanding fondness for the former Central Michigan center — could well lack the financial flexibility they’d need themselves to take in Kaman.”

Kaman’s been hurt this year — as he has most years — but, when healthy, he’s as good as any center in the League. His toughness and smarts would likely make him a potential target for other teams as well, including the Thunder and Knicks.

could this be the backup centre the magic are looking for? thats if they cant secure Marcus Camby.

Q Rich & Chris Duhon maybe likely.

okc might want to consider offering jeff green. however, kamans injury history is of concern.

If they trade Chris Kaman they’re stupid. He’s part of their advantage. If he was healthy right now they would have Chris Kaman, Ike diougu, Deandre Jordan, and last but not least, Blake Griffin. The latter 3 being rather young with lots of time to develop. The potential to be the meanest frontcourt in the entire NBA. Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum? no problem.

Jeff Green for Kaman? Could work out best for both teams. Legit C for the Thunder, Ibaka slides to the 4, and Clippers get Jeff Green to play the small forward position his size and skill-set calls for.

they need to dump baron in any deal involving kaman. they should get a 3 or a 1 for him though. iguodala, or a young pg would b nice fits. kaman might b injury prone for the rest of his carrer so trade him before you find out

The Clippers are in an interesting spot right now. Kaman is better than Jordan, no doubt about that, but Jordan still looks like a legit, solid starter. If they can trade Kaman for a piece they’re missing, it may be worth it.

    Trade Chris Kaman for Bynum!!!!!

I agree with the last comment…but only if you give us blake griffin too

  • Billy Knight

I like Jeff Green for Kaman.

As for backing up Howard in Orlando… what?!?#!

I don’t think Baron needs to be traded anymore. I read an article the other day which made a good point; Blake Griffin has made Davis care about basketball again. So long as he’s motivated, there’s no reason to trade Baron while Bledsoe learns the ropes a bit more.

KAMAN TO THE ROCKETS. Wow could Houston use a legit 7 footer in the middle..

  • http://slamonline.com Caboose

Would Stephen Jackson be a possibility? Or Kaman and Eric Gordon for Melo and JR?

  • Yesse

Never been to the Kaman islands.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

    yesse taking the loss

  • BostonBaller

He’d be a great pick up for a contender who could afford to gamble a bit b/c of his injury history.

  • tavoris

the clippers have too much damn talent to suck this bad.

  • amir

@ rich you havn’t watched the clipper games have you? he’s finally waking up

  • bulrog

you all are crazy if u think trading jeff green for kaman is a good idea for OKC. i’d say sefolosha, krstic’s expiring 6M and aldrich. but green? hell no. 1 they need him 2 if they trade him its not gonna be for a guy who’s been hurt as much as kaman

  • datkid

Maybe dont trade kaman… with him Professor Griff and Deandre they have an excellent long frontcourt. If they ABSOLUTELY have to trade him I’d say get stephen jackson, Gerald Wallace, or Iguodala. and also wait like 1 more year to train baron. Bledsoe’s not quite ready to take over yet

  • kc

sixers!! iguodala for kaman but, andre’s contract isnt very “reasonable

  • orl.chris

come to orlando, we’ll send qrich and his reasonable contract over. magic desperately need a backup C for dwight

  • Danny

I’m with Billy Knight. The Hawks need to get this done. Marvin Williams would be a good fit for the Clippers, a fourth banana who can shoot. Kaman vaults the Hawks to true contention if they can get the chemistry to gel and if Josh Smith can make the shift to SF.

  • Isaac

Am I the only one that was watching Clippers games this year before Kaman got hurt? He’s terrible. Slow feet, inconsistent jumper, weak link on defense…come on, this guy had decent stats pre-Griffin only because the Clips sucked, no one played them hard.

  • irondan21

Towelie Why would u trade 1 injury prone 7-footer for another injury prone 7-footer. Glad ur not a GM for my team

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Steve Nash and Channing Frye FOR Chris Kaman and Eric Gordon

  • Benjahustle

Why not go for the Sixers’ Thaddeus Young? He’s a small forward playing power – Elton Brand’s position. Iggy occupies SF, so that won’t change. Youngs worth about 4 mil (great value) and would fit right into the hyper play of the Clips. The Sixers need a capable center so its a win-win situation.

  • MikeC.

Eddy Curry’s expiring contract + Landry Fields for Kaman. Fields plays more 2 in NY, but he’s big enough to swing to the 3.

dog iggy for kaman DO IT!
