Deron Williams Growing Increasingly Unhappy

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

Things started out in Utah promisingly enough this season. The team reeled off a bunch of wins (going 13-3 in the month of November), and their floor leader’s play had many ready to crown him as the League’s best point guard.

Lately, however, there’s a lot less promise in Salt Lake City, and Deron Williams sounds like a man who’s ready for change in his professional life.

Head coach Jerry Sloan continues to preach patience with his team, as they struggle with frustrating inconsistency, but DWill ain’t trying to hear any of that. With the end of his current deal coming up, it’s do-or-die time for Williams and the Jazz.

NBA.com and the Salt Lake Tribune have the quotes:

But is Utah as good defensively as it used to be? And does this team have the luxury of working all those new players in? “Not really,” Williams said. “My contract’s up in two years. It’s a now or never situation. I don’t know what I’m going to do after this one.”

Williams said that a much-changed Jazz squad had a “better mesh of guys” in 2009-10, longing for the days when ex-Utah guards Wesley Matthews and Kyle Korver could command attention and respect from opposing defenses, in turn stretching the floor and balancing out the team’s offensive attack. And Williams again pointed out the Jazz’s inability to run Sloan’s offense like it needs to be executed, as everything from Utah’s poor floor spacing and timing to the simple inability to set hard screens has prevented his team from “flowing.”

“We’re trying to run half of a system and then half just freelance,” Williams said. “We can’t do that. We’re not the Phoenix Suns. We’re not the New York Knicks. We’re not just coming out here and playing one-on-one. But that’s what’s happening. Things are breaking down and we’re going one-on-one the last five seconds of a shot clock.”

If things don’t change for the better — and very quickly — Utah could soon have itself a Carmelo-like situation on its hands, something no Jazz fan wants to endure.

The Utah Jazz are currently in sixth place in the Western Conference. They need to right the ship, not just for this season’s sake, but for what is turning into a dicey-looking future for them and the face of the franchise.

@Keith Bogans, as I already said, your far and away a better defender then Miles. And both of you suck on offense, I’ll take your one-sided ness over CJ Miles every day of the week.

This is getting absurd. If this trend continues, I’m likely to fall out of love with the NBA. Every team can’t be a championship contender every year. Play through it. Get over it. Damn.

BTW CJ is averaging 12,2 an3 3 so if Jazz wanna make a Cj for Bogans trade Bulls should be all game.

Its on the owner for not wanting to spend. And its on the owner for aks contract, but thats almost gone. They rreaally should have matched blazers offer for wes. …. Paul and al are exactly defensive stoppers and shot blockers.

Come to the Lakers!. We need a young super start because we are getting “old”.!

  • tavoris

    um…CJ Miles doesn’t start.

  • tavoris

and DWill has been playing sloppy as hell the past couple of weeks. He looks like he’s given up on his teammates (for now)

I got an idea, why not just swap every star player from every team to another one. That way they can be unhappy somewhere else and ask for another trade.

This seems like a ploy to me. Jazz play poorly for a stretch that highlights their weaknesses, Deron pops off to the media, Jazz management work to solidify weaknesses, team wins some more and Deron is happy.

  • jumpman

deron williams needs to team up with melo

  • greg

its a good thing cp3 and dwil cant join forces on the same team, id like 2 see one of those guys get dwight and team up trade gilberts contract for an expiring then sign your pick of all star pgs

  • Purple & Gold

The main problem is Utah’s ownership. First off Al Jefferson has not and will never again be a 20 & 10 player that he barely was before that bad injury. Boozer they really had no shot at re signing him last summer. Dude was tired of being in the West and getting bounced out of the playoffs each year by the Lakers. Wes Matthews & Kyle Korver were cap casualties where the Jazz because they are in small market don’t and will not spend over the salary cap and pay a dollar for dollar tax penalty. The NBA is turning into how MLB is now. Where if you aren’t in the big markets like LA, NYC, Chi town then you don’t have a legit shot at winning a championship.

SLC- Where taking Sundays off happens.

  • ryan

I like the Jazz and hope they right their ship. I wonder if they could get something going with Detroit for Richard Hamilton? He can bring the offense and move his feet well on defense plus he’ll fit in a system. Wonder how the cap situation matches up.

  • greg

^^^^ thats actually a pretty good idea if the jazz werent so cheap with their contracts… see ronnie brewer, kyle korver wes mathews, boozer, not even to mention to countless trades they could have made

  • dwreck

Williams Matthews Batum LaMarcus Oden for half a season and then someone else would be legit

  • Justin

I really wish these b*tches would stop complaining when they aren’t contending after their first 4 or 5 years in the league

  • http://nationofmillions.ca ciolkstar

Deron is b**ching too much. If you don’t like losing, step your game up.

  • Shem

I wonder if Al Jeff still thinks he’s driving a Bentley

  • http://google c_cantrell

would it be a reach to think that maybe deron and howard could both be lakers in just a few short years?

  • Orlando Woolridge

SLC Punk. Anyone else see that movie? Hilariously bad.

  • http://www.twitter.com/mark_itis mark

i think they need a more solid 2 guard… rip hamilton would be a nice fit! @mark_itis

  • BS

hands down best pure guard in the league can do everything, i think derrick rose is just having one of those ridiculous seasons. But i don’t blame him, chris paul beat him out of the starting pg out west that is some bs. Anyone with any knowledge on basketball knows this guy just needs some guys to step up and we know who that is Mr. Al Jefferson
