Kevin Love Has Paul Silas’ All-Star Vote

Kevin isn’t feeling the, um, love from NBA fans, but Paul Silas says he should definitely be an All-Star this season. From the Pioneer Press: “Charlotte Bobcats coach Paul Silas, one of the NBA’s premier rebounders during his 16-year professional career, had a gleam in his eye while talking about the rebounding success of Kevin Love, crediting the Timberwolves forward for reviving a lost art in the NBA. ‘It’s so gratifying to me that there’s a guy out here today who’s kind of old-school, who feels that rebounding is important,’ Silas said of Love before Wednesday night’s game against the Timberwolves at Target Center. ‘You don’t see too many guys today taking pride in rebounding. He reminds me of me. I wasn’t a great leaper either, but we both know how to get position.’ Love entered Wednesday’s game leading the NBA with 15.5 rebounds per game and extended his streak of consecutive double-doubles to 22 with 35 points and 15 rebounds. With Love’s 20.6 scoring average, Silas made a case for Love earning a spot on the Western Conference roster in the Feb. 20 All-Star Game. Silas, who had a 9.9 career rebounding average, appeared in two All-Star games. ‘There should be a place for Love as an all-star,’ Silas said. ‘He’s averaging 15 boards a game and he can’t get in? If they can find a place for a guy like him in the All-Star Game, more guys will see how important it is.’”

If the ballot was not so frustrating he may have mine too. Can we PLEASE just pick 5 players regardles of what the NBA considers their position. The choices at the 5 are terrible.

  • http://gmail dirty frank

He’s not on my starters list but I think he should come off the bench. Actually…I think the league leading scorer, rebounder and assist man should be in every time.

  • http://www.slamonline.com zog

Love is the best 4 man in the nba rite now and i think should start for the west along with Williams at piont kobe at SG durant at Small forward and aldridge at center

  • larrylegend

horford and kaman made the team last year…why not love this year?

  • Bruno

kaman was in the all star game last year?? damn

  • http://google c_cantrell

    ^zog..
whoa hold up lil buddy.. best 4 in the whole league? not hardly.. dude is good and is totally deserving of an all-star berth but to say he is the best 4 in the whole league? your just dumb

@zog whats wrong with you, aldridge at center? there are big men such as love, duncan or even griffin who could player that position in the asg.

  • http://google c_cantrell

and also if aldridge was at center then the east would get virtually every rebound lol

  • snowapolis

Kevin should be an all-star, maybe not starting but he should be there. stats don’t lie. Bosh went while he was still on a bad team and many others too.

THIS DUDE BETTER NOT BE AN ALL STAR. NBA HAS ESTABLISHED THAT NO MATTER HOW GOOD YOU ARE, IF YOUR TEAM IS BAD, YOURE NOT AN ALL STAR. ZBO DIDNT MAKE IT WHEN HE PUT UP 25 10, AL JEFF DIDNT MAKE IT THE PAST FEW YEARS. SO WHY SHOULD LOVE? O, THATS RIGHT, CUZ HES WHITE, AND ALL THE WHITE WRITRS LOVE HIM AND KEEP PUSHING FOR HIM. BS!

  • Jamaalclinton87

    @ Tarzan Cooper

Yeah….right….because Paul Silas is white too, right?? c’mon, dude.

  • http://yahoo.com lp

Best 4 in the game???? Relax… allstar? Yes… starter? No…

  • http://twitter.com/BeezKneezy LA Huey

The only thing more ridiculous than the current state of the ASG are the solutions/alternatives people come up with.

@c_cantrell… except for the ones that Love would get, of course.

Tarzan: I get the sentiment, but uh, dumb comment section to post that tirade on. Google image Paul Silas, bro.

  • http://slamonline.com kobehater

love is way better than most pfs in the game. so wht if u r on a bad team. has a 3 point shot, good free throw shooter, amazing rebounder and averaging 22 and 15, that is mose malone numbers and he is a hall of famer deffanite all star

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Is paul silas a white writer? No. ……….. It has been established that bad teams, and the l wolves are a really bad team, dont get a player to the all star team. Many deserving players have been left off because of their horrible teams. Deron williams had been left off despite being on a good team. ….. Love better not make it, blake either. Should bargnani make it? Hes playing well for a crappy team. I suspect nash wont make it, primarily because of the suns record.

  • Omar

I agree with Tarzan about, um, Love not being an all-star and nothing else, lol. But seriously, he’s the best player on a mediocre team. He’s detemined to do nothing else but grab every board, teammates be damned, some of the time. He’s the perfect example of a stats guy.Decent offense, outstanding rebounder, worse defensively than Michael Beasley. However, Blake better be there!

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

They’re ‘stars’, Tarzan, not the ‘best’. That’s what the All NBA teams are for.

  • Omar

Ugh, Kevin Love is not one of the 12 best players in the West, 15 best players in the NBA, or even 24 best players in the league.

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

Exactly. I’m glad you’re backing me up on this, Omar.

  • http://sjfklfsl.com Jukai

Tarzan: No, this has never been established, you’re crazy and you’re taking your race rants over something that has never been an issue before. Get out of town.

  • http://sjfklfsl.com Jukai

    2010:
Gerald Wallace – Bobcats – team won 44 games
David Lee – Knicks – team won 29 games
Zach Randolph – Memphis – Team won 40 games
    2009:
Allen Iverson – Detroit – won 39 games
Devin Harris – Nets – team won 34 games
Danny Granger – Pacers – team won 36
Chris Bosh – Raptors – team won 33
I’ll let you decide what point I’m trying to make, Tarzan.

  • http://sjfklfsl.com Jukai

Oh yeah, David Lee is a product of a terrible, uncompetative team and is all stats, no defense.
GRIFFIN on the other hand… sigh…

  • http://sjfklfsl.com Jukai

Sorry, meant Kevin Love. David Lee is another person who just got in cause he’s white.

  • paul

Love and Beasely almost beat the Celts. The Timberwolves are going to be good.

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

    The Pacers beat the Celts.

  • Omar

Blake > Love, no matter how you measure it. Hell, even Blake’s team is better, for what it’s worth, lol. I can’t see how anyone would take Love over Blake for the All-Star Game especially if this Dunk Contest goes down like I think it’s going to. Even if Blake wasn’t the clearly better player, which he is, I would rather watch Blake catch lobs in the game than Kevin Love box-out Pau Gasol for rebounds.

  • http://sjfklfsl.com Jukai

    21.7-12.7-3.3-0.7-0.7 with 2.7 turnovers, 52%
    21.0-15.6-2.4-0.6-0.3 with 2.4 turnovers, 46/43/88
Statistically, is there that much difference?
Now I ain’t arguing over who is better— Blake’s got a few steps in the race for best PF over Love… but I am laughing at your “he’s just a product of one guy doing everything for a bad team” excuse for Love, and completely IGNORING that SAME logic when talking about Griffin.
They both deserve the nod. Honestly, there isn’t enough competition in the west to keep either of them out.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

All of your examples except zach are from the leastern conf. Those guys made it cuz they were the best options in a conf where losing teams make the playoffs. David lee only made it cuz bogut got hurt. Context. Is monta an all star this year?

  • Omar

    @Jukai-
BG is a rookie, Love is in either season 3 or 4, IDK. Blake wasn’t expected to be the best player on a team with Baron Davis and Chris Kaman especially considering he was injured all of last year. Love is putting up big numbers to the detriment of his team. He is their best player, no doubt but he’s supposed to be but he’s not their best offensive player(B-Easy) or defensive player (Darko?)so what is he providing besides garbage-time stats. And his own coach didn’t even believe in him for the first few games of the season. Granted, he’s an idiot but still…

  • http://sjfklfsl.com Jukai

Tarzan: Yes, I also think Monta is an all-star this year. Him or Rudy Gay for the wildcard spot.
Omar: So, if you’re not the best offensive or defensive player, you can’t be on an all-star team? Uh? Do you think Lebron should sit this all-star game out?
Uh, why do you say to the detriment of his team? Most of Kevin Love’s buckets come from wide-open three pointers, putbacks, or picks. He rarely takes a shot in crunch time cause he knows he can’t create offense. I have NO IDEA where this ‘detriment’ talk is comin’ from. I think the dude should be taking more shots, as he clamps up in crunch time (cause he feels he shouldn’t be shooting) and the L-Wolves have lost like, what, five super close games?
And no one thought Davis/Kaman was going to be better than Blake. Eric Gordon, maybe, but NO one thought Kama/Davis was going to be better.

  • Omar

Jukai, my man!!! LBJ is the best offensive player on that team. And I thought it was going to be B-Diddy’s team, he would dominate the ball as always, as they would continue to dissapoint. I did not see the epic falloff coming. And you just made my point about Love, he hasn’t made a single big play all season. He gets his numbers but he’s not leading that team.
