O.J. Mayo May (or May Not) Be in the ‘Melo Trade Talks

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

Perhaps it’s just wishful thinking from exhausted reporters — and certainly, the exhausted readers who sift through the daily reports — but word on the street is that we may be nearing a conclusion in the MeloDrama.

Despite the latest media report claiming that the Grizzlies and Knicks have had discussions involving O.J. Mayo possibly heading to Denver (with Anthony going to New York), the Knicks‘ front-office continues to deny that they’re working on a trade for Carmelo.

The NY Daily News

Knicks president Donnie Walsh Thursday night denied being in talks with both the Grizzlies and Nuggets in a complicated trade that would bring Anthony to New York. The Grizzlies involvement would include sending O.J. Mayo to the Nuggets while the Knicks would trade a combination of Wilson Chandler plus Danilo Gallinari or Landry Fields.

Meanwhile, a source involved in the negotiations remains confident that the proposed three-way deal between the Nets, Nuggets and Pistons would be completed early next week. Anthony was in the starting lineup on Thursday when the Nuggets hosted the Miami Heat. The Nets face the Lakers on Friday in Los Angeles.

For what it’s worth, the New Jersey Nets appear to be the leading candidate to land Carmelo Anthony.

But at this point, for the sake of everyone’s sanity, he just needs to land somewhere — anywhere — and preferably soon.

I just want this over. It would be interesting to see Mayo with a new team ’cause he doesn’t seem to be progressing with the Griz

Why hasn’t nobody talked about Melo to the Clippers? I say Melo stays in Denver, he already has a great team to play with and also has a great coach in Karl. If Melo goes to New Jersey I would be disappointed though because he would be going from a great team to a team that would be fighting to be an 8th seed in the East.

Who cares? Do we really need a new “Melo trade talk” story everyday? This is getting almost as bad as guessing where Lebron will end-up for two straight years.

    Melo, go somewhere already.

  • hiphopcop

Just get it over with, any team he goes to whether it be the Nets, Knicks, Clippers, Detroit or stayS in Denver has no shot at the title this year, so while it’s been interesting TO HEAR “Melo Trade talk” the first couple of months.

It’s getting towards that point in the nba season, where it’s going to be, “WHO CARES WHERE MELO GOES?”

  • fruizm

i really dont understand why does melo think he would have a better chance with new jersey than denver.

  • bballkid

that’s the thing, fruizm, he doesn’t want to go to the nets to lose. let’s hope he realizes that. going to the nets equates to another 2-3 years of developing a team around him – something he already has in Denver.

Melo needs to get out of Denver because even though Denver is a better team than those other teams right now, Denvers future is not bright. Chauncey is old, their trio of big men is alwayyyys injured, , i love G karl but his methods aren’t improving the team anymore. He needs a new start… although i really dont feel new jersey is a good place for him. Orlando and the Clippers wud be the best places

I want it to be over too, just do something, stay leave, DO SOMETHING! Every sports site I go to has about a zillion Carmelo headlines. I can’t even avoid it anymore, it’s everywhere. Melo’s an awesome basketballplayer but this stuff has got to end.

  • http://jayemmbee23.tumblr.com Clutch Performer

Free Steve nash, send him and Melo to NY

  • http://vandelay-industries.org Art Vandelay

I pray to God the Knicks won’t screw it up again with sending two or even three future stars (Chandler, Gallinari, Fields) away…
Do they really NEED Melo anyways?

  • http://twitter.com/smk73 SMK73

He’d better step up his boo-ray game then or JR Smith will take his money and beat his ass too.

  • Jose

The lebron effect will spread. Once lebron made his desicion, it went into next season with Carmelo, once melo makes a Move, CP3,D12, (or D-will i believe?)will jump the gun…

  • greg

this is a wake-up call to gms everywhere. makes moves to better your team or your stars will LEAVE. this isnt like the ninetys where they would resign for the extra money and extra year. guys want to win nowadays.denver hasnt made a move since they heard melo wants out, they should have moved heaven and earth like orlando did. even if it doesnt work, do something.

  • Hambone

If rip and bubububububu billups end up joyzey I want shed to come back there and i want the situation courtside everygame and be nj spike lee

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

    MeloDrama. HAW!

  • robb

Melo’s going to the Knicks and that’s the end of it.

  • riggs

intelligence is lacking in this thread, if melo did have the power to leave dont you think he would already? you should get mad at the front office and not the player for holding this trade up. lol @ getting mad at melo for what he has no power of doing.

  • riggs

@artvandelay(great name by the way) YES they do need melo, they have nobody who can create for themselves and whenever STAT tries to he either gets stripped or loses the ball. Carmelo demands the defense to step up and he takes away from his teammates. They need him. i would happily give away chandler and gallinari for him.

  • Ronald

This post may (or may not) be pointless.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

MeloDrama, LOL. I can’t believe I’ve never thought of that before.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Also, if it’s may or may not then this is pretty much a non-story… no offense…

If the Nets did this trade for Rip and Chauncey as well as Melo, they might as well get Ben Wallace and Sheed, and then we’ll see what the Pistons would’ve been had they drafted Melo like they were supposed to!!

as a knick man, i’m gonna totally despise if we lose chandler and fields. gallinari is expendable.
i say we send gallnari and curry’s fat ass contract

THE RETURN OF THE KING: Carmelo Anthony DREAMS of playing in that #30 Knicks jersey!

I hope Mayo can get going with a fresh start. Kid’s father out committing felonies.
Then, Tony Allen beats him up in front of the team.

Shout out and RIP to Reggie Doucet…

  • slamfan4life

    Chicago needs Mayo

  • memyselfand9

no matter where he goes out of those destinations he will not win a ring there in the next two years. not even close.
that alone makes all this talk uninteresting to me.
