Otis Smith on the Celtics: ‘They Act Tough’

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

The Orlando Magic and Boston Celtics have a long, and rich history of trash talk. Whether it be on the court, or even more entertainingly, off of it.

Following the Celtics’ thrilling win over Orlando on Monday night, Glen “Big Baby” Davis and Kevin Garnett both dismissed Dwight Howard‘s dominant 33 point, 13 rebound performance (Davis claimed Howard was “easy” to defend.)

Over on the Orlando end, GM Otis Smith questioned the Celtics’ toughness, or lack thereof. From the Sentinel (via, Celtics Blog):

Sentinel: Is the team tougher now?
Smith: ‘Tough is relative. Tough to who? Is anybody tough?’
Sentinel: One could argue the Celtics are tough.
Smith: “They act tough. They’re not really tough. They act tough … To say that we’re going to go ‘Aarrgghh!? No one does that in this league. At the end of the day, they’re all young men. They’re going to go out and play. One team is going to execute better than the other. That’s what it comes down to. It doesn’t come down to that kind of toughness.”

Now, whether or not the Celtics’ bite is as bad as their bark remains up for debate.

All I know is that I can’t wait for these two teams to continue their trash talk (and basketball) during the Playoffs. We’ll be able to more easily determine which side is tougher then.

Caboose nailed it on the head. They (except Paul Pierce) are tough guys but not nearly as tough as they think. If anything, I would say they are a mentally tough team. It takes more mental toughness than physical to play hard defense like they do. And NickTheQuick nailed it 100% with that description of Paul Pierce. Of course he came back and hit a couple of shots afterwards. He wasn’t really hurt. Biggest p*ssy in the league this side of Vince Carter

this coming from a GM who let Hedo walked out only to welcome him back again, maybe Otis should concentrate on his job more instead of what others say.

They people sh*tting on the Celtics sounds like bigger whiners and bigger jokes than the Magic. Dude got stabbed 11 times and then a month later started the season and didn’t miss a f*cking game that year. That’s your definition of a p*ssy? What do you do, play an 82 game season after getting shot? You sound like a f*cking idiot when you compare PP to Vince. Do you realize that? Do you know why the C’s act tough? Because they beat your f*cking team on a very regular basis and they have the right to. To answer the other question, I’d say that Marc Gasol and Z-bo seem like another one of the tougher frontcourts. They have Tony too and you know he doesn’t let a debt slide.

Wow, so the GM of a team named after a fuggin’ Disney Theme Park thinks he has the lane to dictate who is or isn’t “tough” in the NBA? After getting beat?

    Really?

Man I didn’t know it was rough like that out in the mean streets of Orlando…

I’d be mad too if I just got beat by the team that routinely eliminates me from the Playoffs…I don’t think I’d call the guy that just knocked my teeth out “fake tough” though.

Otis you’re a big, big man aren’t you?

    LMAO
