Phil Jackson: Lakers Are Currently a ‘B’ Team

The Zen fella gives the defending champs a passing mark but sees plenty of room for improvement. The Daily News has the quotes: “We’re definitely a ‘B’ team right now,’ Lakers coach Phil Jackson said Thursday, a little more than 24 hours before they face the New Jersey Nets at Staples Center. ‘We have room for improvement.’ Indeed, it looked like it might be a bumpy road for the Lakers (29-11) after they lost three in a row and four of six last month before suddenly finding some rhythm and confidence during their current winning streak. ‘We’re not displeased where we’re are, but we’re unhappy we had some consecutive losses,’ Jackson said, referring to losing streaks of three and four games. ‘What I like is we’ve gotten their attention. They’re starting to be attentive on defense. And they know they have the opportunity to be a really good team.’”

Is there any coach who understands and deals with the highs/lows of a regular season like Phil Jackson?

What is their biggest win of the season? At home against Chicago in Nov? On the road against NO at the end of Dec? Granted, they haven’t played that many big games yet.
Right now it’s tough to tell how good they are, so I say B team with strong potential for A status.

Yea that B team has the third best record in the league now and is second in the West while giving up only 90 points a game that last ten games.

    F*cking Phil.

I think there a “B’ team for right now but there upcoming games are vs teams above 500 so im looking foward to seeing the Lakers play and see how well they play and adapt to there match up problems.

    Go Lakers!!!
    Long Live King Mamba!!!
Long Live King Mbenga of the Congo!!!

Jackson knows the Lakers are good, probably still the best team in the West. He’s just trying to piss off Kobe, Pau and the rest so they won’t get complacent.
What’s most amazing about the Lakers since 08 is that they’ve accomplished everything they have with Bynum at 60% (at best). With a healthy Bynum, or a decent center they could get for Bynum, someone like Tyson Chandler or Emeka Okafor, they would be more consistent.

With Chandler yes, not with Mek. Mek isn’t long enough.

I think compared to other teams, Lakers are an A team obviously but, Phil knows his team and his teams potential, Lakers compared to the Lakers of past 2years, definitely a B.

  • hiphopcop

    Well what can you say?

Back to Back champions need motivation during the season.

Phil knows what to say to get his team back on track . Done it before, might do it again. @KAP : Good Crack Rocks ? don’t sniff bleach son , ur just confusing yourself.

Allball, pop. ……. Lamars shoulder is a problem. He probably sustained the injury as a result of lifting a heavy and lumpy object. …….. Cough khloe cough
