Polladaday: Mavs’ Finals Chances?

The Mavericks were looking like they had a real chance to win the Western Conference, but now those chances don’t look so hot. First Dirk missed a few games, and now Caron Butler’s out for the season. Can they still make it happen?

Are the Mavs still a threat to win the West?

even before caron went down, they werent good enough to be the spurs or lakers. the spurs beat them last yr and werent that good, now the spurs are even better this yr

You’d have to be crazy to think the mavs this year aren’t good enough to beat the lakers or spurs. They have the size to matchup with the Lakers. Against the spurs, the mavs are playing completely different basketball than they did in the playoffs last year.

As long as they hold it dwn on the defensive end as they have, they should still be good, thought carons absence does take them down a good bit

Dirk just needs to get healthy. Missing Caron won’t hurt them as much.

Redirkulous: 2006 finals, 2007 first round. choke artists

and until they prove otherwise, why should i think they can beat the spurs and lakers?

And don’t underestimate not having Marion off the bench anymore either – now that he’ll be starting. Meh, Spurs/Lakers pre Caron’s injury; Spurs/Lakers post Caron’s injury.

2nd round exit. Though I don’t think Caron’s injury changed that at all..

there should be a 3rd option: they wouldnt make the finals anyway.

logues: this mavs team plays a completely different style of ball than previous mavs teams. They’re winning games with their defense, mainly interior d which is something that hasn’t happened before.
