Rasheed Wallace Planning to Re-Join the Celtics?

Stephen A. Smith tells The Dan Patrick Show that Wallace told him he plans to help the C’s avenge their NBA Finals loss to the Lakers by coming out of retirement: “Smith said that the Celtics counter the Heat’s athleticism with ‘brute size’ and Rasheed Wallace will come out of retirement to come back to the Celtics. Smith said Wallace told him that’s the plan, because he wants another shot at the Lakers in the NBA Finals.”

    the redeem sheed

  • ErnieD Posted: Jan.11 at 11:05 am
when he originally told the guys on the team he was hanging them up… the attitude from them had been “See you in February.” Maybe they can get James Posey back from New Orleans while they are at it.

  • Eboy Posted: Jan.11 at 11:06 am
Uhm….where the hell are they going to find minutes for him, Garnett, Big Baby, Shaq and JO? These guys aren’t used to being role players and Sheed is now just a glorified three point shooter. Unless Doc is going to unload one of them (probably JO although Baby has the most value) this won’t end well.

Who becomes the odd man out, Erdin or Harangody? All these bigs but only 1 guy to pass the ball. Eventually diminishing marginal returns comes into play.

  • EGOT Posted: Jan.11 at 11:09 am
They should just sign him to a short-term contract come playoff time, like the Suns did with KJ a few years back against the Spurs. Sheed didn’t do much in the regular season last year anyways, so I wouldn’t expect it to be any different this time around. And he’s probably in even worse shape now.

  • T-Money Posted: Jan.11 at 11:12 am
Your forgot Perk who’s coming back next month I think. And Miami is not small. If they have to, they can rotate Z, Damp and Magloire. Limited yes, but not small. Joel Anthony won’t touch the floor and CB won’t play the 5 against the big boys.

  • Eboy Posted: Jan.11 at 11:13 am
I did forget about Perk, who has said in the press he fully expects to have his starting spot back. There’s a lot of egos in that frontcourt.

  • Ctp Posted: Jan.11 at 11:17 am
First the lakers gotta make the finals.

  • Max Posted: Jan.11 at 11:19 am
then they would have like 7-8 (ex)allstars? :D

  • pache Posted: Jan.11 at 11:23 am
yes is exactly what i’ve been wanting to here there is a need for sheed in the nba

  • jaychau Posted: Jan.11 at 11:23 am
    Shocker alert.

  • First & Foremost Posted: Jan.11 at 11:26 am
Anyone willing to place a bet that spoting Dwight 3 months worth of games Sheed still catches him in Techs.

  • Detroit Dave Posted: Jan.11 at 11:28 am
I actually think he would be a better fit in ORlando.

  • Tyquez Posted: Jan.11 at 11:53 am
go to newjesey wit melo are mavs are newyork

  • Tyquez Posted: Jan.11 at 11:54 am

  • Brian Posted: Jan.11 at 11:58 am
    Yesssssssss!!!

  • Seth Posted: Jan.11 at 12:13 pm
Size means nothing if it’s just standing at the three-point line.

  • SMK73 Posted: Jan.11 at 12:18 pm
QUITE FRANKLY I find this hard to believe. Now if he changes his name to Rasheed O’Neal to match the C’s other signings, well…

  • dsleepy Posted: Jan.11 at 12:21 pm
    ^ truth

  • vtrobot Posted: Jan.11 at 12:24 pm
SHEEEEEEEEED! nice. i was always hoping that he’d get another ring.

  • melvin ely Posted: Jan.11 at 12:27 pm
Oh man a lineup of Shaq, Sheed, Jermaine and KG would absolutely KILL IT.

    In 2002.

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Jan.11 at 1:22 pm
    Need4sheed!!!

  • LA Huey Posted: Jan.11 at 1:44 pm
He was just Favre-ing it. Feigning retirement to avoid the grind and coming back for the fun stuff. I see you, Sheed.

  • niQ Posted: Jan.11 at 1:45 pm
    lol@Tarzan

  • toinefan88 Posted: Jan.11 at 1:48 pm
    It’s ova

  • Chris_Griff_3 Posted: Jan.11 at 1:55 pm
I’d let Rasheed take Jermaine’s minutes. All of them.

  • MikeC. Posted: Jan.11 at 1:56 pm
He probably got wind of the ‘respect for the game’ technical initiative, and decided he’d be suspended most of the year if he didn’t just chill until a month before the playoffs. Hopefully he shows up in shape. Dude needed a bra for most of last season.

  • biged Posted: Jan.11 at 2:14 pm
how he know they gonna get that far….

  • Ramon Posted: Jan.11 at 2:21 pm
Maybe they will give Dwight less techs with Sheed back in the league.

  • diego Posted: Jan.11 at 2:26 pm
    check this out:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nh3wORk_aSE&feature=player_embedded STEPHON MARBURY SCORED 51 POINTS IN CHINA!!!!, TO ME HE COULD GO BACK TO NBA RIGHT NOW

  • Allenp Posted: Jan.11 at 2:28 pm
good point everybody who mentioned how crowded with bodies and egos that frontcourt will be.
Honestly, Sheed didn’t really start balling until the Finals. He was just all right in the rest of the playoffs, and pretty average to below average during the season.
Do the Celtics really need Sheed and his “play when I wanna play” attitude?

  • The Black Rick Kamla Posted: Jan.11 at 2:32 pm
see Sheed is smart, now this way he will only have a half season worth of technical fouls! brilliant

  • skilletforilla Posted: Jan.11 at 2:51 pm
I’ve been waiting for this announcement – figured this would happen from the day I heard he was “retiring.” That locker room will be just hilarity. Sheed and Shaq on the same team both coming off the bench? The mind boggles. SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!

  • greg Posted: Jan.11 at 3:13 pm
he should go to okc much more fun they need some egos in that locker room

  • First & Foremost Posted: Jan.11 at 4:30 pm
I’m no longer seeing the logic here. You only stock up on big men when you must foul a dominant center. Ok Dwight, but do you need Davis, Sheed, Shaq, Perkins, JO, possibly KG’s fouls for a 48 minute game? Who fouls one player 36 times? Slow old guys out of position just means a boatload of free throws for penetrating wings (otherwise read as Miami) At that point you send average jump shooters to take free shots to get a rhytem.

  • Stillballin Posted: Jan.11 at 4:32 pm
    WI

  • Stillballin Posted: Jan.11 at 4:35 pm
With the new officiating rules this year. Its not gonna help sheed..he’ll lead the league in ejection..hope to he him back..

  • letsmotor Posted: Jan.11 at 4:41 pm
i think this could work if it goes through. at the center, you got perk starting and shaq and erden coming off the bench. at the pf, KG starts, and big baby and sheed come off the bench. forget about JO, he looks more out of shape than sheed was during the regular season last year, i say waive him to make space for sheed. and harangody is promising, but it’s not his time yet. he can ride the pine this season.

  • J.C. Posted: Jan.11 at 6:33 pm
If he comes back now he still has time to set a new T’s record!

  • Respectrayallen Posted: Jan.11 at 6:42 pm
Calm down, you can always use big bodies and Sheed is a big body who can play excellent defense if motivated. He gets motivated in the playoffs.
He was great in the finals and he played excellent defense on Dwight in the ECF. There is no guarantee these other guys will be healthy either. Perk has a bum knee. Garnett is injured again, JO has been injured for most of the season, and been poor when he has played. If healthy, Shaq can’t give you big minutes, but he is old so there is no guarntee he will be healthy. Semi has been pretty decent but hes not ready to be a playoff type player. Dido for harangody. Sheed is a playoff performer, sign him up

  • dirty frank Posted: Jan.11 at 7:14 pm
    There’s always room for Sheed

  • whyeo Posted: Jan.11 at 7:58 pm
can’t wait… you can never have too many bigs in the NBA.

  • rob stewart Posted: Jan.11 at 8:57 pm
Celtics final playoff roster could be Rondo, Nate, Delonte, Wafer, Daniels, Allen, Pierce, Baby, KG, Sheed, JO, Shaq, Perkins. Wow!!

  • Will Lee Posted: Jan.11 at 9:29 pm
one of the reasons Celtics lost to the Lakers last year was Sheed. He just did not defend.

  • letsmotor Posted: Jan.11 at 10:38 pm
Will Lee. are you serious? he played great defense on Pau (think he went 6-18 or something close to that). rebounding was the problem, which can be fixed by big bodies (and a healthy perkins).

  • The Ambassador Posted: Jan.11 at 10:55 pm
I remeber in the Finals Sheed was actualy making shots over Gasol and could have been a differnce make if he would have played inside more often oh well who am I to judge.

  • whyeo Posted: Jan.11 at 11:01 pm
sheed was ok in game 7 but he sorta gassed out at the end because of starting. i would still rather have sheed on dwight when perkins is out over shaq in a playoff series. Do it Cs!

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jan.11 at 11:36 pm
Co-sign rob stewart.. Crazy good line-up right there.

  • Quinned Posted: Jan.12 at 12:57 am
sheed was the best post defender for the C’s at times when Perk gets healthy having a rotation with sheed and perk would bother guys like howard way more than big baby

  • michael.d. Posted: Jan.12 at 3:49 am
sheeeeed! i know you got a 9ice plane for that. show the line UP.

  • Run'n'Gun219 Posted: Jan.12 at 11:03 am
rob stewart- when i look at roster one word pops in my head. Hood lol

  • BostonBaller Posted: Jan.12 at 4:13 pm
Sheed did his thing in the playoffs last year, his age caught up with him in game 7 but I’m sure with the added bulk this year he could last a bit longer.
