Report: Knicks Interested in Marc Gasol, Joel Przybilla

The Knicks are reportedly in no rush to make a deal happen prior to the Feb.24 trade deadline, but according to the Daily News, New York’s front-office is keeping close tabs on Marc Gasol and Joel Przybilla: “While [Jim] Dolan hardly looked thrilled Monday night, it’s not because he’s down on his team. Dolan is also not pushing team president Donnie Walsh to make a Carmelo Anthony trade. Dolan, according to a league source, is not pressuring Walsh to upgrade the Knicks, who will take a 23-21 record into the Garden against the Heat after avoiding the .500 mark with their win over the Wizards. ‘He’s not getting any heat from above,’ said the source, referring to Walsh. With the trading deadline still 30 days away, Walsh and the Knicks seem to be more focused on adding a big man and shoring up the backcourt than going after a major piece in Anthony … The Knicks’ main competition for a big man is said to be Orlando, which traded reserve center Marcin Gortat last month to the Suns in the deal that brought Hedo Turkoglu to the Magic. The Magic miss Gortat’s defense and board work and would like to address that area. Among big men, the Knicks reportedly have talked about Portland’s Joel Przybilla and Memphis’ Marc Gasol. However, they have concerns about Przybilla’s health and whether he’d be a good fit in their offense. With Marcus Camby out for at least a month following knee surgery, Przybilla is starting now and perhaps will be able to allay some concerns that he has not fully recovered from a severe knee injury. As for Gasol, the Knicks and several other teams believe that Memphis will not deal him and instead will attempt to re-sign the restricted free agent this summer.”

marc would be a great pick up and ghostface is great defensively but he’s coming off an injury and doesnt look like his normal self anymore.

  • MrSuper

Very sensible of the Knicks not running after Anthony. Two high scoring superstars wouldn’t mesh well in NY. Trying to improve on the teams depth is the way to go.

  • http://www.slamonline.com THE REAL RIGGS

he’s still going to the knicks though

  • http://google c_cantrell

he will most likely still end up nyc but yal know how that goes so theres no point in even discussing it.. but gasol would be a great fit in orlando if they could manage to get him.. dont see it happening tho

Gasol would be wasted in Orlando; Knicks might be a good fit, they need a legitimate bruising C so Amare can play his natural 4. Gasol would be ideal, but Pryzbilla would work in a pinch, even if he is a bit old.

  • http://google c_cantrell

how would gasol be wasted? do you even know what your talking about lol.. he would be a great reserve center.. he would be the best center in the league coming off the bench.. he wouldnt get near the playing time or stats as he is accustomed to but orlando would have no problems down low if they could their hands on mgasol.. but its most likely not happening anyway so we are wasting time even talkin about it

Kwame Brown’s lookin pretty good these days…

  • thebuzz

I would take Shaq or Jermaine O’Neal off the bench over Marc Gasol right now.

I don’t think Gortat himself would want to go back to Orlando. He was so happy to finally get playing time elsewhere!

  • http://slamonline.com TheTruth

Man if memphis gets rid of marc they are officially trash!
And if new york gets marc I would be officially scared for my team.

  • http://www.slamonline.com THE REAL RIGGS

@C_Cantrel: i think you answered your own question, thats how he would be wasted, coming off the bench.

  • dma

If memphis decides to resign zach randolph over gasol, you know they’re full of rtards

How about the Knicks bring the Grizzlies into a 3 team trade with the nuggets, and have like gasol or pryzbilla get also sent to the nuggets, and have like chauncey get sent to the grizzlies…IDK I’M NOT A GM.

  • http://google c_cantrell

if you would have been paying attention to what i was saying then you would realize that this would not be a waste.. a sacrifice in minutes and stats yes, but not a waste.. it would be one hell of a boost

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

I don’t see why the Grizz would deal Gasol… Unless they’re really high on Thabeet and want him to start right away. They have one of the best front courts in the NBA with Marc and Randolph–and there is no way Randolph can play the 5.

  • http://google c_cantrell

i dont see them trading him either i was talkin what if

  • http://www.slamonline.com THE REAL RIGGS

It would be a boost to the team no doubt but a waste for him, which is why gortat wanted to get the hell out of there before the trade (back when people were calling HIM the best big man off the bench), or have you forgotten about that?

  • http://Gmail Dirty Frank

If their really high on Thabeet then their really high

  • http://google c_cantrell

no bud my memory doesnt fail me, i remember.. but also im lookin at this in a team perspective.. for what helps the team and what is best for the team and what will help the team flourish and prosper.. your viewing the situation strictly with an indivual approach.. nothing would be wasted.. and also im sure that there would be no argument whatsoever concerning gasol being the best big man off the bench.. that said i understand what your saying

  • rob stewart

So what if they are “interested” in Gasol. I was interested in Beyonce and Halle Berry, doesn’t mean I have a realistic shot to get them

  • MusketeerX

Gasol is a restricted free agent. Haven’t Grizzlies already said that they are going to pay whatever it takes to keep him? I thought that was already reported somewhere else?

  • Groves

The Knicks should be high on athletic Defensive bigs like Tyson Chandler or DeAndre Jordan… My Magic need to try and get a solid Defensive/rebounding big… maybe milicic (because he can pass great for a big man) or Nazr Mohammed

  • youngmuggsy

Prototypical D’Antoni big men, big and slow. Perfect fit for an up-tempo team.

  • http://itsahardwoodlife.blogspot.com omphalos

c_cantrell, that was such a stupid line of logic I’m not going to respond properly. Of course adding a good quality starting C as your reserve wouldn’t be a waste for the TEAM, but for the player? Yes. It would be a huge waste. Do I know what I’m talking about… smh.

  • http://google c_cantrell

look you f*ckin moron.. i understand it would be a sacrifice for the big f*cker but it would help the f*ckin team ok retard.. damn too many ppl worry about individualism in the nba more than actual team success.. so just stfu and gtfoh

  • the heatles

miami heat should try get either deandre jordan, kwame brown, hasheem thabeet or joel pryzbilla!!!!
