Trade Limbo Creating Bad Blood Between Rip, Pistons?

Rip Hamilton‘s team has yet to find a willing trade partner, so he’s forced to hang around like an unwanted member of the family. It’s a tough situation for both parties, and the tension is palpable. From the Detroit News: “Pistons coach John Kuester is saying all the right things. Kuester knows there could come a point, with his team chasing a playoff spot, he might need Hamilton, due to injury or any other unforeseen circumstance. ‘You’re talking about a guy that’s a tremendous competitor and he wants to (play),’ Kuester said. ‘I’m sure he’s very proud of the way the guys have been working. He’s part of the Detroit Pistons. You see his work ethic and he’s trying to do things the right way. You never know when his number is going to be called.’ Hamilton’s teammates see themselves one day being in that situation, and empathize with what’s going on. That the Pistons seem to have found their chemistry (winning four of six) with the way things are doesn’t make it easier. ‘I know he’s bothered by it,’ forward Charlie Villanueva said. ‘It’s not Rip. It was a matter of us learning to play well. It was bad timing.’ … The Pistons realize soothing over hurt feelings in the absence of a trade will be difficult. ‘Rip has done so much for this franchise, it’s sad to see that. At the same time, it’s a business,’ Villanueva said. ‘Just for him, I know he wants to play, he wants to contribute. If not here, then somewhere else. I hope this is resolved sooner rather than later.’”

As much as I hate to see this happening to a Pistons legend, I think it kind of has to…this team clearly is worse with RIP and BG splitting SG minutes and Stuckey playing PG. Stuckey has played much much better at the 2 than at PG. I really hope someone will take on RIP’s contract and he gets to play soon. He deserves better.

    It’s a shame…

The people who crucified Bron for showing ‘no loyalty’ should feel exactly the same about Pistons management. Rip was as consistent as you can get for nearly a decade, and this is how you treat him.
How is John Kuester still in a job? Rip is the latest of many players to have a problem with him. It’s not like there winning.

OMG! Did I just hear the coach talking about playoffs? NOOOOOOO! My dream scenario for the Pistons to lose out, get a high draft pick (don’t mess it up Joe) and get this rebuilding process started. As of right now they are stuck in neutral.

Note* 8th seed in playoffs, opponent either Miami, Orlando, Boston…What positives would come out of making the playoffs.

Keep Rip. Fire Kuester. Hire Larry Brown.

So Detroit fans are now realizing that Stuckey is just a two?
It’s going to be a real shocker when it’s clear that he’s only a good two, not a great one.

@ Allen- I think management is just realizing that Stuckey is just a 2…most fans knew from the start or at least after his first season.

Stuckey is a very good 2, though, if he gets the minutes he deserves.

cosign Teddy, he’s not an elite level guy, but he’s pretty darn good. If he gets consistent minutes at the 2 he’d be close to a 20ppg guy.

Players like that are a dime a dozen. Not to be a hater, just stating what I see as the truth.

  • doyouwantmore

Rip Hamilton has done more for Detroit baskeball (Um, do championships count as success?) than almost anyone else in the Pistons building at any given time. Do right by Rip!

  • Timmy P

Keep Rip. Fire Kuester. Hire Larry Brown.

    wheres walter herrmann?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Not true, Allen. Stuckey can defend as well as score/pass. Potential 20-ppg scorers that can defend are definitely not a dime a dozen.

AllBall, people weren’t ripping on Lebron for no loyalty, they were ripping on him for the way he went about it. Please don’t get me or everyone else started on that again though
