Alvin Gentry Has Lost Respect for Kevin Garnett

KG’s latest antics did not sit well with Alvin Gentry. Think he’s mad? Imagine how Channing Frye feels. From 620 KTAR (via Arizona Sports): “I used to be a big fan of [Kevin Garnett],” [Gentry] said. ‘Some of the antics he’s pulled lately, you don’t need to do that as a star player. I’ve never seen Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant or even a Dwyane Wade do that.’ The coach was upset because Garnett not only hit Channing Frye in the groin late in the Suns 88-71 victory over the Celtics but also because the forward placed his foot where Frye could land on it after shooting. Gentry viewed the tactics as reckless play that could cause injury to a fellow player. ‘You can compete and play hard, that doesn’t need to be a part of it. It really doesn’t,’ he said. ‘To do that to someone you can seriously hurt him,’ he said. ‘You know the fact that all of a sudden Channing comes down on his foot twice on jump shots that’s a very dangerous play. If you’re asking me, yeah, I lost a little respect for him. I love his competitive nature but there is no place for what he was doing in our game.’”

Gentry actually being misquoted. Missing from the transcript is: “…Okay? …Okay? …Okay? …Okay? …Okay? …Okay?”

KG is a fruit. What else is new?

I totally feeling like I am losing the respect as a fan of KG because of his antics. From calling Charlie Villanueva a cancer patient; the senseless mind game on Andrew Bogut trying to get him ejected or fight him; the bag tag and attempted ankle sprain on Channing Frye; and now he tries to fight J.J. Barea? It makes me wonder why Eddie House gets fined for the gesture he pulled that week on the shot he made, but KG didn’t get nothing? I would like for both Derek Fisher the president of the NBPA and David Stern the commissioner of the NBA explain that. It’s sad that he shows his ignorance where he said the reason he got ejected because he ran his mouth despite the whole Channing Frye situation.

there’s a big difference from being tough and being dirty.

Putting the foot under the landing player is just… pathetic, I hope they suspend him for deliberately trying to injure other players. KG is a pile of sh*t

  • Jelte

last night KG again behaved like a fool. I’m done with this lunatic.

  • Justin

I was thinking the same thing NotebookNick. Obviously this idiot has been watching tapes of Bruce Bowen’s supposed defense. How many times did we watch him stick his foot under jump shooters as well. It’s pathetic and has no place in the game. @logues…If Channing Frye should go to WWE for his acting then Paul Pierce should win an Oscar

True fans watch the game with little bias and don’t “mold & create” things to fit their “hatred” of a player and or team. I don’t like the Lakers (Rivals) but I don’t over exaggerate their play or players to make my point. Someone above mentioned that he watched the plays over in slow-mo and the foot thing could have been a lazy block out. (could have been but haters will jump on anything w/out hesitation or backup) the growing shot-someone mentioned that if you ever played the game…blah blah blah. If you ever REALLY played then you’d know that yes players jab at the stomach to make players flinch on shots and sometimes catch the sack..I’m not defending just giving 2 sides..watch them both again slowly w/out jaded eyes. I love my C’s but wrong is wrong.

  • Mike From Spain

I don’t care much about the jab, but the foot under the landing player… the article said KG did it twice in the same game. Once is fine, an accident, twice… uhmmm…

They all aint got jack on KG’s legacy

  • spursnation

what else would you expect from some hood trash? tim duncan is ten times the man and player this garbage is. TD has spectacular character and ten times the resume that kg is. he thinks hes all that cuz he`s on a good team after a century of futility

how many times has KG put his foot under a jump shooter? that’s the 1st one that i can recall. no one on here knows if it was intentional. once he starts doing it as often as bruce did, feel free to pass on the dirty crown to him. as soon as he pushed berrea last night, i was just imagining the rage of many on these boards. i’m surprised he didn’t get tossed when he pushed the refs hand off of him. KG goes a little further now than he once did and seems to lose his cool a lot of the time. hope it doesn’t bite the C’s in the a$$ during an important, late season game. shout out to BostonBaller. peace.

KG has intensity on the court, which I feel alot of NBA players play with, but KG took it to far with Channing. Channing should have tried to knock him out. I really wonder what Doc Rivers thinks about this, because the video proves it all. KG to me reminds me of a WWE wrestler that comes in the arena, then changes his ego to the fans to show he is tough and hard. I used to be a fan of Minnesota KG, but Boston KG has obviously had to much spiked tea.

This is basketball.. Not tennis or golf or some other activity. Who cares! Let the man play how he wants, its entertaining to everyone anyway, or else you wouldn’t be commenting. He has more heart and intensity than most players in the league. At the end of thr day the league is getting soft and boring as the years go on. What happened to letting players play. I remember when bruce bowen use to pull that type of play all thime (foot under the defender), you hated him when he wasn’t on your team but he added to the intensity of watching the game. Again this is ball, get over it!

IF hurting Frye was KG’s intention, Frye would not get up.

There is nobody in the L right now that plays D like Garnett. He takes that ish to heart. There’s no way anything like this will happen again whre KG is involved.

The Celtics domination would be kind of boring without Kevin’s antics.

WZUP VROBOT, This stuff gets heated on here. I’m waiting for a virtual beer bottle to come through my screen. lol.

KG has been a crazed cussing, head banging lunatic since Minny, this is not “new because he’s on a winning team.” KG doesn’t back down from anybody, you haters just see what you want to see. Him and Amare alwasy get into something when they play. Allenp mentioned the Duncan mush, just the other day on Conan, Kobe said him and KG talk smack all the time, he gave Dwight Howard about 6 forearm shivers in the playoffs last year. At the same time, he’s not going to be out there punching people in the face. He’s not an idiot, he’s not going to risk suspensions swinging on dudes on the court. You never hear the top players talk junk about him, they always say they respect him. its the marginal scrubs that always have something to say.

  • Gman

KG!! gotta love it. Dirty play tho.

  • http://thegrandcompanion@gmail.com the truth

thats what u do to shooters. tap the stomach or pretend to go for the nuts. anyone that plays ball know this.

  • http://email Connie

KG is a jerk, foul-mouthed idiot and a poor sport. It’s about time someone called him out.

  • http://aol.com celtics101

It may have been bad, but i still (unlike alvin gentry) have respect for KG.
just like Allenp said, it is hard for me to care about who or what alvin gentry cares. I like the suns, but the celts are infinity times better on paper an prove that on the court. (when they used to have amare) The suns only revolved around 2 people, Nash and stoudemire.
