Celtics Eye Murphy, Gadzuric, Pavlovic?

Buyout season has begun, and the Celtics are keeping an eye on Troy Murphy as well as other players such as Dan Gadzuric, Sasha Pavlovic and Jason Kapono. From the Boston Herald: “According to sources, the Celtics are hoping the talk of Troy Murphy being available comes true. They are said to have interest also in Dan Gadzuric, Sasha Pavlovic and Jason Kapono. The C’s, meanwhile, are trying to get their house in order after some reconstruction. ‘Our team is still not whole,’ said general manager Danny Ainge. ‘We started out great. We played great basketball with Shaq (O’Neal) in the middle. I think it’ll be easier for Shaq to return in a starting position, which I think he has earned with his play this year.’”

I hope they can pick up Powe. In the frontcourt. they’ll need defense and rebounding. Can Murphy even play? Jersey should have been able to trade him if he was healthy or nearly healthy. There are ton of teams looking for scoring out of the 4/5 spot…

  • spit hot fiyah

they the only ones on the market lol

  • Jono

Basically the Celtics are out of contention for the NBA title. No point talking abt it.

  • HeavenCent

@Jono, are you crazy? you really think so? Am I the only one who doesn’t think Jeff Green is garbage and can actually be effective in the Celtics system?

  • DeeDre

@HeavenCent, No youre not. The Celts are gonna be fine. The Celtics proved time and time again how they can still be competitive and a top team with or without Kendrick Perkins. He’s a good defensive presence but the Celtics are a great defensive team with or without him. Jeff Green is an excellent free throw shooter who can get to the line at will and is much improved over Kendrick Perkins shooting. Plus he’s athletic allowing him to chase around the Lebrons Carmelos Turkolus and Boshs of the world when they take outside shots.

cosign DeeDre. and Troy Murphy would be a solid pickup.

I don’t think Danny Ainge is playing his cards right this year. His off season signings were ok, as I liked the Shaq signing but not Jermaine O’neal. Ainge really screwed up when he thought it would be smart to trade a young center for guys who can’t rebound the ball. Troy Murphy won’t really improve things in Boston if he is signed.

The Celtics are desperately trying to cover for Ainge now. They are talking a lot of nonsense about how Shaq is going to come back and save the day, about how Green is an AMAZING talent, Perkins was a lost cause and we are gonna pick up all these AMAZING buyout players and on and on. It’s sheer nonsense. Buyout pickups are gonna rock the NBA? I mean, this stuff is laughable. Had we stood pat, then maybe one or two smart buyout pickups could have made a significant difference. But instead we ripped the defensive heart of the team out and gave it away, and now we are scrambling for injured oldsters, wandering buyouts, and eager D-leaguers to save the day.

Think about it – can you believe that a team that was perhaps the leading championship contender two days ago is reduced to this? It’s like the Cs are starting the season all over … but with less than thirty games left in which to pick players, bring them all into the system, teach them all the plays, and shape them all into a new team with a new approach.

It’s nuts. I love the addition of Jeff Green, but it’s just like starting over…

    KAPONOOOOOOOOO! please make that happen

Murphy would be nice. We need size! If we get another nice big we’ll be strait. We’ll def miss Kendrick but I believe Shaq can still contribute a lot.

Murphy is nice, but if the current frontline is healthy, Kapono would be a great fit.

  • http://counterkicks.com Quinned

i just don’t get the erden and harongody trade for a 2nd round pick, they trying to clear space for a buyout? Erden could play better post d than any of these available guys

  • ripslam

The Celts have enough guards, they need to sign a decent big, since neither O’Neal seems to be very durable. Troy Murphy’d be nice.

  • green

exactly quinned… the jeff green/perk debate almost doesnt matter, he brings almost as much as the loss of perk, sure, maybe, whatever. But they wouldnt need to go after dan gadzuric (ew) or troy (ok)if they didnt give away erden and harangody for nothing. then theres the whole lack of class thing trading the nearly paralyzed quis and bust his ass to get healthy perk. then theres the fact that no, they don’t really have enough guards, they now need another pg unless avery bradley is gona be asked to run point if delonte or rondo are both out, which he has shown no signs of being capable of doing? could be wrong, hope i am, but this is one scared celts fan at the moment. and since no one asked; why not just hold pat with the roster that had a top-3 record in the nba that was at no point intact, and make the trade with a say quis, nate and harongody/pick, to get a shane battier (went for a lot less than that combo) or something else that left an open roster spot, and wait for the buyouts of troy murphy, the disgruntled pistons, or kapono anyways…? the move didnt save enough money long term to justify the scummy-ness and change in chemistry that would be created… k i’m done

  • rich

get murphy he is a good rebounder and wwill be another target for rondo

  • flipnoyce

C’s will be fine when the Oneal’s come back around playoff time. They’re just looking for bigs to use for banging purposes in the paint. Perkins was a big loss in the defensive end but he was also a liability in offense. I like the new look Celtics, they look more mobile with their new addition of Green and Krstic. West is back along with Bradley so the guard dept. is set. Pierce finally got a decent reliever in Green. My only concern is these late season injuries that sneak up on teams. Banner 18 here we come once more!
