Houston Rockets May Be Shopping Aaron Brooks

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

Increasingly, it seems as though Aaron Brooks has worn out his welcome in Houston. The problems began when the team refused to offer him a contract extension last summer, and he’s grown increasingly unhappy with his minutes.

The Rockets suspended Brooks for last night’s game, and according to head coach Rick Adelman, Aaron’s spot in the rotation is by no means guaranteed.

Multiple media outlets are reporting that the Rockets are aggressively looking to unload Aaron Brooks, and the New York Knicks are reportedly one of the teams interested in his services.

From Newsday:

The Knicks are mulling a trade that could bring in Aaron Brooks for some needed backcourt help. A source with knowledge of the situation said the Rockets “are going to try hard” to move Brooks before the Feb. 24 trade deadline. A separate source confirmed that the Knicks are interested.

The Knicks have spent most of the season scouring the league for a capable backup for Raymond Felton but have yet to find an available player who would be a good fit and wouldn’t cost them an asset they might need to acquire Carmelo Anthony.

Brooks, 26, is averaging 12.2 points and 4.1 assists per game this season after his career-best 19.6 points and 5.3 assists in 2009-10. The lightning-quick guard, who is a career 37-percent shooter from three-point range, would be a good fit in Mike D’Antoni ‘s pick-and-roll system as long as his ankle, which he injured in the second game of the season, is fully recovered.

The big fish for the Knicks is obviously Carmelo Anthony, and while those talks rage on, New York does need a solid backup for Raymond Felton.

Brooks is owed $2 million this season, and will become a restricted free agent this summer.

but who goes if Brooks comes to the knicks

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

Knicks are mos def interested, but there are reports that Houston already rejected the Knicks. lol

  • Fat Lever

So he’s upset at his spot in Houston’s rotation, but he’d be ok backing up Felton? Huh?

  • rog23

@Fat Lever: my guess is that he wouldnt mind being the 6th man on a playoff team, and “possible” east contender within the next couple seasons………..Cough*MELO*cough again

  • TheBarberShop

Brooks has been dope in Houston.. but when this season started, he got hurt and missed about a month. He hasnt been the same player since. Plus, now, Kyle Lowry is playing wayyy better ball at the point. I love Brooks, but im starting to think he is becoming somewhat of a cancer in the locker room.

  • RunNGun

LMAO The Knicks are always in rumors to get EVERYONE! LMAO what a joke! Brooks “backing up” Felton? Yeah right… remember what happened when the Knicks had Marbury and Francis? `Nuff said.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Brooks couldn’t be better than Felton in D’antonmi’s system?
This time last year, Brooks was almost unanimously better than Felton.

@ AllBall, maybe bcause nobody watched the Bobcats?

  • greg

woah we all watched them die in front of orlando if that counts. either way i dont think he was better than brooks last year

This Guy SINGLE HANDEDLY destroyed my fantasy team for weeks…

  • http://Philosophervision@blogspot.com The Philosopher

He reminds me a little bit of Dana Barros.

@Meloman2.0, me too, my friend. Me too.

  • Overtime

Weird that its come like this so fast, also didnt realise Brooks was 26!

  • Dont Woory Bout It

Having Aaron Brooks leaving is not a big lost with Kyle Lowry and Ismeal Smith at the point, the Rockets already have big shooters on the bench like Courtney Lee.

  • riggs

lmao @ the idiot who bought up steve francis and marbury, if youre trying to tell me aaron brooks are either of those fools then wow.

  • Jrooks

Im trading that bum right now

  • jose

    Chalmers and Arroyo for Brooks?

  • http://www.google.com/news BETCATS

hahaha the Knicks are pulling another Knicks move. Your 2nd best starter is a point guard and you need a center. Of course they will try to trade for another starting caliber point guard first.

  • Ash

the phoenix suns would be foolish not to trade for brooks

  • matt

even though i don’t really like the heat, they should try to get brooks. That would really help the heat out. the problem is they don’t really have much to offer.

ya’ll need to put the pipe again again. Brooks
isn’t going anywhere the Rox love him. So what if
he gets pissed and wants to be the man at point?
you want players that are hungry he’ll be back with his explosive scoring if not this year then next. When Brooks is on there are few guards who
can light it up from 3-point range and move up and down the court with his speed dude is lightning fast when he is 100% a lot of fun to watch.

  • Doug

No way the Knicks get Brooks. They dont have anyone to give. The only players the Rockets would consider is Chandler and Gallo and they are probably trying to include those two in a Melo deal.

  • Michael

Yeah Brooks would be good for the heat i think.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Lakers need Aaron Brooks over Melo to me. Imagine the Lakers having a point guard that can shoot, dish and able to create his own shot. Trade Artest and Blake for him.

  • ab40

cleveland needs a scorer realy bad just do it

  • http://sdfklf.com Jukai

As a Phoenix guy, I’d trade Brooks for Dragic straight up. Legit.

  • Coops

The Rockets have been a very boring team for years now. I live in Houston and I can’t even tell you who the stretch five are. Gone are the days of Mario,Clyde,Steve,Hakeem and anybody else that was interesting to watch and root for. And can we bring back some good looking uniforms. Looks like they are wearing practice gear.

2011; where losers hate on a guy because he ‘ruined their fantasy team’.

  • Gabe

the knicks should trade curry and randolph for brooks, that would be so awesome!
