The Timberwolves Have Too Many Wing Players

So sayeth GM David Kahn, who then goes on to compare players to cars in a garage. You figure it out. From the Star Tribune: “Kahn said it’s ‘likely’ the Wolves will make a deal by the NBA’s Feb. 24 trading deadline, but said it’d be a ‘tactical’ and ‘surgical’ move. ‘I don’t expect it to be big,’ he said. He also said he isn’t looking to trade [Corey] Brewer, who will become a restricted free agent this summer after the team did not offer him a contract extension last fall. He also said he hasn’t determined that Brewer isn’t a part of the team’s future. He could still be re-signed next summer once a new labor agreement is reached. ‘Because Corey is in the last year of his deal and because many people like Corey’s ability and upside, we receive a lot of calls on him,’ Kahn said. ‘We also have a team that’s very deep at his position. It’s important we listen and weigh what’s the appropriate decision for the ballclub. Players are not like cars in a garage. You can’t keep accumulating cars, you can only have so many of them. There’s a balance act there and at the wing position; we’re probably too heavy there.’”

maybe we should just draft a bunch of point guards again?

  • Max

the fact that they could have drafted an extremely solid core and they went for point guards in 09 drives me crazy and im not even a t-wolves fan..couldve had steph curry, demar derozan, and dejaun blair, but no.

Thank God that Khan got something right that he was ripped for (Kevin Love).

BS…the Timberwolves just don’t have enough good players. When Jonny Flynn gets his legs under him, and Martell Webster gets healthy we’ll see but right now you can only count on offense from 2 guys.

kahn, if you are reading this, you are a terrible GM. it’s arguable when players don’t pan out, but when you stockpile wing players and PGs and wonder why they are not getting better, you don’t know what you are doing.

Drafting Rubio was a debacle. They need to trade his rights not now, but right now, for a decent two or combo guard to compliment Flynn who’s legit when healthy.

On the bright side, Beasley will evolve into a fine player and Milicic has some decent upside.

And Love is the next Wes Unseld.

Well DUH???? Wes Johnson needs more time!!! Trade Brewer or Webster!

yeah they have to many wing players. it could be worse. they could have too many GOOD wing players. at least they all suck so its not like the coach has to trip over anybody’s playing time. does it really matter which sucky wing player you play? no!!! its all the same. if they had too many wing players they’d have to worry about how to get them all minutes. at lease they got that going for them…

  • tavoris

too many wings? How about all their point guards and power forwards?

Khan is a decent GM, actually. Everybody thought he was crazy to trade Mayo for Love, but Love is a stud. He was also right about Darko.

He was also insanely smart to get Beasley from the Heat (and essentially giving up nothing), and drafting Wes Johnson (who will be a really good player once he gets the playing time). His only real blunder would be drafting 2 point guards in ’09.

Al Gore would like to speak with you Mr.Kahn

  • haslem

Kahn didn’t trade Mayo for Love, Mchale did. .
