Blake Griffin Tired of Rough Play from Defenders

Blake Griffin absorbed a hard foul on the break last night, and following the tough loss at home, he vowed that he won’t let defenders get overly physical with him anymore. From the Press-Enterprise: “Griffin’s 22nd birthday was, on the court, hardly one he’ll want to remember. He went 3 for 12 from the field, 8 for 15 at the line and finished with 14 points and eight rebounds before fouling out for just the third time this season. That probably didn’t help the frustration he felt when hauled down by Battie — just as he was hit in the face, almost certainly inadvertantly, from Jodie Meeks on the same play. ‘I just felt like they had let things go way too much up to that point,’ Griffin said, ‘and that’s what happens when you let things go and you don’t call fouls. Things like that happen. It gets to that point. And I thought it was ridiculous. So I’m not going to take that. I’m not going to take stuff like that. I’ve done it too much this season. It got to me.’ Foye understood why his rookie teammate was so upset. ‘I know he feels guys don’t go for the ball, and just take a whack at him just to let him know not to come down the lane,’ Foye said. ‘So when he was taking his steps, and getting ready to jump off of one foot, that’s why I think he got so upset. That’s why I grabbed him so quick, because I could see when he got up, there was a lot of anger there… You don’t want him to get suspended.’”

    “LOL”, said Dwight Howard.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Ask Andre Miller about Blake’s penchant for hard play.

  • runNgun

Welcome to the NBA, Mr. Griffin.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

Dwight Howard understands you. Same thing happens to him. On another note, I’m pretty sure the only purpose Battie is on that team is to do just that.

  • Tupack Shackur

It also looks like Battie was trying to keep him from falling down.

  • max

what does blake expect? he goes up and dunks every game acting as if he invented the ally-oop and others players are getting pissed. he’s gonna get fouled every time they get the chance to prevent him from jumping.

  • Oh Nose

Crying already…and he wants to play in the Olympics?! LOL u funny Blake.

  • ClydeSays

Complaining about it in the media is just going to make it worse. Say something to the officials during the game, or have your team send film of you getting hacked & not getting a call. That’s what’s earned Duncan & Kobe untouchable status…

  • Jay Pitamus

Hard fouls is one thing. Intentional hackin w/o goin after the ball is another thing, its cheap and cowardly. Play real D! Its da ref’s fault, it’ll also be te refs fault when Blake levels somebody one day, cuz it’s coming..

  • jufu

hack-a-blake, and he still gets 14 and 8. once any of you can do that, even on a street court, then you can diss him.

  • martey

I was at the clippers nets game last week that went into overtime and kris humphries was putting on his best wwe impersonation..there were a few borderline flagrants on griffin…and for those who get mad that he talks to the media..maybe the media asked him a question..its clear to see he’s getting hammered out there

  • larrylegend

welcome to dwight’s world! and ask drose for the a jump of 2 feet.

  • Illydiva

Obviously, I’m a Sixers fan, but I’d have to agree with eBoy and runNgun above. Seriously, Blake?? I might listen if you were 5’10, 160; but at your size and with you being on Sports Center every night (and I don’t begrudge you that), this is how it goes down in the L.

  • RobbieJay

and everyone else is tired of you banging on them night in and night so i mean its kinda expected…

  • Jer dawg

These players are almost trying to take his legs out. You don’t think he’ll be mad? Unnecessarily pushing him as he takes off The floor. Punch someone Blake.

  • biged

he needs to start throwing some “accidental” elbows. they’ll get the message.or start roing the same thing when he on defense.
Call up Chris Bosh, he’ll teach you how to flop.

  • http://www.nba.com Gman

Stop crying Blake, maybe you shouldnt give dirty looks after every god damn dunk.

  • JL

learn to play with it. you’ll earn the respect of the refs. he did get 15 FTs! and only hit 8… Just work on your game and let the coaches and refs worry about the rest.

  • greg

the hard foul is part of the game. you prevent the guy from gaining momentum and getting easy baskets. anyone who shoots over 50 percent is gonna get thugged in the paint. you have 2 options. become an elite ft shooter or play a finnese game, either way nobody is letting you just dunk on them in the League.

  • http://shinefluid@aol.com just bcuz

i hate when less talented players knock guys out the air. cmon man if u played solid defense and were in position and wasnt always getting beat by your man u wouldnt have to play catch up and knock dudes out the air. they do it al the uber athletic guys. i understand blakes plight as a bulls fan i see it happen to d.rose all the time

  • MLK4Life

One time I’d just like to see Dwight or Blake knock one of these guys out. If you don’t like how they play, get in the weight room. Hard play is foreign to some of these players

  • ripslam

The guy feels a need to prance around like a horse on meth after every dunk, and then expects everyone to bow down and kiss his feet. GTFOH

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

    Co-sign greg.

  • http://Hotmail.com Wayne

    Seriously???

  • TSmoove

They gonna keep doing it till he knocks someone out for it…but that won’t happen so Bash-a-Blake stays

  • Cizzo

Hacking somebody up is what league full of scrubs would do…… I see if you get beat up the play before and there was no whistle, then you retaliate then I can see the use of a hard foul. But just to stop someone for posterizing you? Come on? I’m loosing even more respect for the NBA……

  • Desert Storm

Being the number one dunker in the league has its consequences. He thinks they don’t call fouls. HA! Wish you played in the 90s Griffy boy. You’d probably be the shadow of Shawn Bradley

  • dsleepy

    boo hoo.

  • http://www.michaelcho.com M Cho

He needs an enforcer type to retaliate on the next play against the guys who go for the face or legs. Basically, he needs an Oakley.

  • Coney Islander

Just let your tears drip into the leather of your Ferrari seats. MAN UP! Did Blake think people enjoyed being on Sports Center?

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

@M Cho – Unfortunately, Oakleys are basically non-existent in 2011 NBA, unless you’re talking about shades the players rock to the arena.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

I feel for the big fellas, though. Big men/centers get called for the most ticky-tack bullsh!t, but they can get blatantly hacked at in the paint with no call. They can also get smacked in the head or grabbed by the neck and it’ll just be a regular foul, but as soon as a guard gets knocked down it’s an automatic flagrant. Total BS.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

They’ve also made it impossible for big men to defend guards on the perimeter. If there’s a switch on a screen and roll, all the guard has to do is fall into the big man and it’s an automatic foul. The big man can be backing up and it’s whistled as a blocking foul. Complete and utter bullsh!t.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Flake Griffin with the Dosie Doe!

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

So he doesn’t want the physical play anymore…? Andre Miller can have that effect on you. Might be best to adapt the ‘Chris Bosh Finesse Game’.

  • J.C.

I don’t think he’s complaining about a physical game, just getting tackled on a fast break because the other team doesn’t want to get in the Top 10 that night. The way he got hit last night he could have got seriously injured and it’s just irresponsible if not totally despicable to do that to someone just because you don’t want him to get a dunk. If you don’t want to get dunked on, play transition defense. There’s no excuse for doing that, imagine if he’d landed awkwardly and re-injured his knee. Imagine the amazing talent we would have missed out on.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

All this dissing of Blake will stop when he takes the hard foul that’ll make him sock the dude that fouled him

  • Lan

where’s the hard intentional take down foul? I see a Blake losing his footing after getting smacked by Meeks. If Battie had intention to foul hard, Griffin would’ve been in the stands.

Griffin’s probably been taking a lot of hits earlier for him to react like that.

  • Justin

For all of you people saying something about how Blake “prances around after every dunk”, I bet every one of you is right there with your eyes bugging out, drooling over what you just saw too. Shawn Kemp used to do the same thing and nobody criticized him for it. And you can’t talk to the referees about it or they’ll T you up now. Blake should do exactly what Shaq did in his rookie year when guys started to hard foul him. He punched the guy in the side of the head. Got a game suspension but guys weren’t fouling him so hard after that

  • http://hibachisabas.blogspot.com/ Toni Kukoc

Toni Battie is still getting cheques?

  • http://nba Tevin

I think Blake Griffin should shut up and just play basketball. Welcome to the NBA league Blake.
