Don Nelson Wanted Andris Biedrins to Shoot Underhanded Free Throws

An awesome suggestion from the great Don Nelson, which he claims is the reason he was canned by the Warriors. The SF Chronicle has the quotes: “In his most provocative comment, Nelson seemed to say he was fired primarily for asking center Andris Biedrins to shoot his free throws underhanded. Biedrins shot an NBA-worst 16 percent in 2009-10, Nelson’s final season. ‘I got fired when I asked him to (shoot underhanded),’ Nelson said, and there was no follow-up question. Nelson maintained that he had Rick Barry lined up to instruct Biedrins. That was part of Nelson’s most extensive public comments since being fired in September and his only statements since breaking his silence Feb. 3 with Ralph Barbieri and Tom Tolbert on KNBR. During Monday’s interview, he left open the possibility of coaching again and didn’t pull any punches about his career.”

Why not?! Rick Barry is money…

Rick Money is money is like an under-statement when he holds the record for career free throw percentage.

How about just practicing ANY type of free throw? 16 % is rediculous.

it’s like young bigs who refuse to sky hook. it’s an ego thing, doesn’t look manly enough.

16%??? Might as well just learn how to dunk from the free throw line with no run up.

  • First & Foremost

Ideas to try: Shooting with opposite hand, backwards, hook shot, kick it, headbutt it, PRACTICE, get a shooting coach, step in to it like a jump shot, shoot from the elbow, pump fake to get a defensive lane violation if you miss. Whatever you do, do something different.

16%? Pretty sure people who’ve never played basketball before in their life could shoot better than 16%.

16% is ridiculous, although it is not the same to shoot in your own backyard and have a great % as it is in an nba game
the point is biedrins like many others somewhat followed the typical nba trend of the past 10years and began to disgress since he received that hefty contract, fans need to step in and boo the sh1t out of him

The Chronicle, Rusty Simmons in particular, is a joke. Don Nelson was obviously kidding when he made this quote about why he was fired. Out of context journalism FTW…

i’m fairly sure 16% was on purpose. nobody is that bad. he just hated nelson.

Don Nelson also wanted him to run point…

16% was because he was badly injured and clearly couldn’t play, but the warriors were so depleted from injuries that biedrins was forced to play.
to give you an idea of how bad it was, nellie somehow found a way to keep a player with 6 fouls on the court cause there wasn’t a sub available.
