Mike Bibby Feels Disrespected By the Hawks

Bibby may have taken whatever is left of his talents to South Beach, but he has a bone to pick with his former team. From the AJC: “In buying out his contract, Bibby left his $6.2 million salary for next season on the table in order to get a chance to play with a contender. ‘I was surprised, but that’s not my business,’ Joe Johnson said. In a report Wednesday, Bibby said the Hawks disrespected him by not telling him earlier that he could potentially be traded. On Feb. 23, the day Bibby was traded, the team informed Bibby before he was to leave for the game that he was involved in a potential trade and had him stay at the hotel rather than accompany the team to the arena. ‘It’s been my experience in all the years I’ve been involved with the NBA, that is the way you handle it,’ coach Larry Drew said.”

Can’t be mad at the Hawks, they made an upgrade, which allowed the Heat to make an upgrade. It’s like going to the AT&T store for a new phone.

Bibby isn’t the first or last player that their team didn’t inform them they could be traded.

I’m sure Hawks fans feel disrespected by Mike Bibby’s defense.

but players should give a heads up well in advance to their teams if they don’t plan to re-sign. gotcha.

^^^ cosigned, classic hip hop. Anyways its still is a responsibility of ownership and managment, just out of common courtesy, to inform a player that he’s on the block…….Mike Woodson was a good dude, he woulda handled it differently….they shoula never fired Mike Woodson….lol, i feel like I’m trollin now

its all good.. now he gets to run point for a far better team and has one hell of a shot at gettin that ring hes chased all his career

I’ll be interested to see if MIA let’s Bibby handle the ball. Seems like he’s more likely to be used as a spot up shooter…

    I-I-I-I shot the sherriff…

ccantrel said all that needs to be said. Mikes got a legit chance at a ring and the hawks will be looking for playoff upsets this year so disrespected or not bibby comes out on top. @clyde says, i disagree more with that, mike may have lost a step (or 3) but thats a pg who really knows how to run an offence and feel the rythem of a game, if anything i think he could be the missing peice for miami…unfortunatly.

Damn, Mia. are looking good with this. I think people forget what Mike did with Sac Town, OK so it was a while back but the man is a proven winner (college) and definitely knows how to run the point look at the Kings Western Conference run. Anyone saying he’s just a gunner is truly underating him. What do you think he’s looking to do now he’s in Bronsville (or is it Wade County?)? Keep in mind that he dropped a lot of cash for this move…

The old ‘doesn’t play defense’ line. That’s the criticism you bust out when you want to sound like you know a lot about different player’s abilities, but have nothing insightful about a certain player to contribute.

@doyouwantmore – if Bibby could stay in front of slow guards, the Hawks wouldn’t have traded him. His contract was up at the end of next season, which might be wiped out by a lockout. So it wasn’t a salary dump. They needed to get younger and quicker at the 1. Hinrich is younger, quicker and a better defender. It’s not all tied to age since anyone that watched the Kings when Bibby was in his prime knows he got lit up there too.

Teddy – You mean Michael Cera?

bibby’s the worst starting point gaurd in the nba. so do with that what you will eboy.

    “Bosh for Horford? ”

No freaking way the Hawks do that trade. Ever. I wouldn’t even trade Josh Smith for him.

  • PapaBearATL

He disrespected the hawks with his defensive laziness and not being as clutch as they expected first!

  • cooken

People are wayyyy overlooking this trade. This does nothing but help the Heat, adding Bibby AND Troy Murphy. Yes, both are notorious for their lack of defense, but neither of which are gonna even start. I still would rather have chalmers at the point, one, for his defense, and two, for his spot up shooting. Plus, Mike Bibby’s spot up shooting will shoot up, since he will be doing less of creating shots and just simply shooting the ball.

I didn’t say he was Gary Payton, and I think you’re way off anyway. He’s an average, or slightly below average defender, but comparable to other PG’s. The difference is mental. Bibby sees the floor well, good spot up three-point shooter, and he’s mentally tough in end-of-game situations. I think the Heat have athleticism, star-power, and playmaking pretty much covered, so Bibby is a great addition.

  • flipnoyce

Bibby was lights off tonight against Orlando, can’t even contain Nelson! When the game is on the line who will take that last shot……..?

I’m not sure why people think it’s always the same thing in regards to a team letting a player know they’re being shopped around vs. when a player is leaving. I know a lot of peopel on this site aren’t that intelligent, and sometimes things are hard to grasp but has it ever occurred to any of you that a lot of trades are last second things, especially at the deadline? If there was any indication that the Hawks were actively looking to trade Bibby, I’m sure this site would have been all over it. Also, I would think out of respect to the team, they don’t tell the player so it’s not a distraction to them. How many would find it easy to focus on the next game after your GM or agent tells you that you’re on the trading block? On the other hand, players pretty much know if they’re staying or leaving. Lebron and Bosh knew exactly where they were going and please don’t try to kid yourselves into thinking otherwise. Guys don’t just wake up and say “That’s it, I’m leaving”.

  • MikeC.

@doyouwantmore – I didn’t say he was a bad addition for the Heat. I think he’s a great fit for the Heat because he won’t be asked to do stuff he can’t do any more. He won’t be asked to do much more than be a 3rd ball-handler and spot up in the corner/wing for open 3s off Lebron and Wade’s penetration. If the Heat can hide him a bit on D against the speedier 1′s, then it’s a solid pickup. I just think his brick feet were the reason the Hawks moved him for a younger, quicker player.
