Ricky Rubio Open to Signing With Timberwolves Next Year?

To Wolves fans, Rubio must feel like that pony they kept asking for (and never got) as children … but, hey, his family says he might sign next season (reportedly). From the Pioneer Press: “A little birdie says the Timberwolves have received word from Ricky Rubio’s family that he’s open to signing with them for next season — if there is a season. The NBA’s labor agreement expires June 30, and that’s an issue for Rubio, the Wolves’ 2009 first-round draft pick who could continue playing for FC Barcelona in Spain if there is an NBA lockout. The 6-foot-4 point guard is averaging 5.5 points and 4.0 assists in 45 games this season.”

He’ll be a Wolf, but sooner or later he’ll be a Knick. Make it happen Walsh.

he will NEVER play for the Wolves/

I hope he comes over next season. Rubio and Love will make the team semi watchable.

  • Larmisti

Can someone explain his seemingly pitiful stats?

Can anyone actually take this seriously?

Euro League stats and NBA stats are recorded differently. In the Euro League, they’re more stingy with assists; such as a player can’t get an assist if the person they pass the ball to dribbles before scoring. Euro League rules are different too. There is hand checking and you can goaltend.

  • rich

his stats suck because of the nature of the euroleague. much less open style of play. same thing happened to jennings when he was there and even jose calderon. the nba is a pgs game and he will flourish. overseas its more about everyone being able to handle the ball

  • spit hot fiyah

u can touch the ball once it has touched the rim, u can’t goaltend when the ball hasn’t touched rim yet

Well break out the ticker tape parade Rubio wants to honor his draft picking and come to Minny! Who does he think he is a Euro Steve Francis?

  • st

Rubio is a bust, this dude is only averging 5.5 pts. What’s all the hype about, is it because he’s 6’4″???? Sure he had that one good tournament a couple years ago, but really people what else has he done since then?

Stats be damned, I’ve watched the kid play a few times and I wasn’t overly impressed. Maybe I need to see more but with the way the PG position has eveolved he definitely can’t hang with Rose, DWill, or Westbrook defensivley.

I wish he would come over so we can stop speculating.

April Fools Day isn’t until Friday. Slam jumping the gun a little?

kid can play. His main strengths are defense and passing. Two things that American fans don’t like or think is very important. The same season Jennings was in Europe averaging 8 and 2, Rubio averaged 6 and 4. And was DPOY.

  • theDankerNuggets

goaltending is aloud in Euroleague!? lol i would love to watch a game with that, not all of them though that’s why i just love to get high with a jay, then watch me some a dat nba

LOL..Rubio in Minny….He can ball, but he’s definitely overrated. They make it sound like he’s the Jordan of Point Guards

  • T-Money

americans don’t appreciate defense and passing? interesting. rondo, williams and paul must have been naturalized. / shooting percentages don’t lie, rubio is an abysmal shooter and can’t finish. his defense at the nba level remains to be seen, he has quick hands but his feet are not that quick. and yes he can pass but he also turns the ball over a lot. he won’t even be the best spanish pg in the L.

  • matt

I think Kahn could still draft Irving and trade Rubio. Or maybe my raps get interested in Rubio or maybe my raps send Calderon to minny (spanish mentor). Stats in Euroleague are much different/lower, etc. It is very much a team game. Jonas Valanciunas, who will be a top 10 draft pick, only averages like 19 mins/game. that is how that league works. Also, Rubio hanged with TEAM USA AS A 17 year old with an injured wrist.

  • robb

I don’t give a damn about Ricky Rubio

  • tavoris

Jose Calderon is flourishing in the NBA game? when did that happen?

  • MikeC.

@tavoris – it happened really really fast and didn’t last very long. He played well just long enough for the Raps to panic and give him a huge contract.

  • JD

i reckon people should stop looking at the stats, cos most of you guys dont know the Euroleague game, and who won European Basketball player of the year despite similar stats in 2008?

  • Mike From Spain

I hope that there is no lockout and Ricky Rubio can go to the NBA at last… he’s kind of stuck in a rut, going to the NBA would make him step up his game and it’d be the best for his development.

    Shout out to Charlie Cabezas.

So, stop talking.Once he spend a season in he NBA start talking. If your answer is then he should go to the NBA, well, that is what he is going to do. He will be in the NBA soon enough.

  • Gatsby

For anybody who says that he can’t hang with Westbrook, Rose, or any of the insane point guards we have today, I say to you, who can hang with them? That’s the thing, nobody can stop those guys. I have seen Rubio play in person, and I can tell you that he plays with intensity on the defensive end, and what he does passing the ball and controlling the offense is brilliant. Just because he isn’t the most athletic doesn’t mean he isn’t good. And just because right now he isn’t a great shooter, doesn’t mean he that he won’t be.

no need to go in the NBA, u r already a washed up , overrated cager.. no talents no more
