Chris Bosh No Longer ‘Frightened’ By Center Role

Bosh’s aversion to playing the 5 has been well documented this season, but against the Sixers in the Playoffs, it’s a role he’s come to slowly accept. From the Sun-Sentinel: “When the season began, Heat forward Chris Bosh cringed at the thought of playing too much at the center position. He’s changed his tune thus far in the postseason. Because of Philadelphia’s speed at the position, Bosh has played extended minutes at center. His role is expected to remain the same throughout the series. ‘It just took some time to get comfortable to it,’ Bosh said. ‘At first, I was kind of frightened. I didn’t really want to play the five. I know I’ve said that a bunch of times.’ Bosh gives the Heat another option of defending Spencer Hawes or when the Sixers use reserve Tony Battie in the middle. When Bosh moves to center, forward LeBron James switches to power forward. ‘It’s just a matter of building chemistry with that lineup because some things are going to be a little different,’ Bosh said.”

  • http://www.acb.com A l a n

never heard of a player being frightened to play in a certain position, what a lame dude… you have to play wherever the coach wants you to.

Keep throwing 20 and 10′s and you can have panic attacks after each game for all I give a sh*t.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Cheryl

The guy’s not afraid to express his emotions. I find that refreshing, personally. Now, having said that, he’d better bring it when the competition’s better.

  • http://www.slamonline.com c_cantrell

    ^Cheryl,
I find that just a little on the queer side.

  • taylor jones

    c_cantrell,

I’m sure you would know. To quote kobe, you ..

  • greg

you guys are all just ignorant bosh isnt soft cuz he says things like that. hes soft because he wont play center. but if u actually watch him now he takes a lot of charges for the heat using his quick feet, hes playing good post defense over the past month. he might not be kenyon martin but thats no reason to deny what else he can do on the court

  • http://www.slamonline.com c_cantrell

    ^greg..
Im guessing that im included in your statement since you said “you guys are all just ignorant.” Let me ask you some questions, you pathetic little dumb*ss. Did I ever say Bosh was soft? Did I ever say that Bosh played soft? Did I ever say that Bosh couldn’t play the 5? Did I ever say that Bosh couldn’t guard the 5?
    No, no, no, and no.
Everything negative I said about Bosh was directed straightly to his week character as a man, not his game. I actually said “dude is playing good tho.” So since you dont know what the f*ck your talking about, why dont ya do us all a favor and go back to your little kiddie table and play with your water colors. B*tch.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

LOL! I love how c-cantrells arguments always result in him telling some one to go sit in a corner, or go back to the kiddie table.

  • ado

chris, you get paid to play the game i love.. consider yourself lucky and play the 5 damn it..

  • T-Money

sparker: he never plays the 5 vs LAL or Orlando. and it’s pretty clear to me at this point that chris bosh doesn’t really care for machismo. lol i mean, he’s just giving ammo to the skip baylesses.

C_cantrell has got to have the shortest fuse on this site, jeez.

    Chris bosh is pathetic

  • Gman

Ah the day when people take words too literally in sports will be the day.
    Keep doin your thanggggg Bosh!

  • Brahsef

@Alan…you may have never heard someone say they’re frightened, but then they’ll still play scared. Same shit

Chris Bosh is just a lil more on that emo tip than most nba players.

  • dsleepy

    did he have “glossy eyes?”

  • irondan21

Now if only they could get Lebron to man up

  • robb

Wait til you play against a real center brave boy.

  • 1982

Word choice aside, Bosh weighs less than Lebron. Even if he’s not frightened, I’d be at least worried. If he gets injured – Erick Dampier, Big Z, Magloire, and Anthony haven’t even put up Jermaine O’Neal numbers yet…

  • Red Star

OMG! Man up dude! Man up!!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Mars

Joel Anthony is getting the perfect confidence booster right now playing against Philly. They don’t need him to play center…yet.

  • http://slamonline.com walt williams

Of course he’s accepting the role against Philly, he’s playing against Spencer Hawes.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ everything

LOL at irondan21′s ignorant comment. Lebron’s holding iggy to less than 10 points a game while averaging 25. dude has been making sixers tentative on half court sets and in transition. if you expect numbers like he displayed with the cavs last postseason then youll be disappointed. with guys like dwade and bosh as running mates, he wont need to especially against philly. but when the situation calls for a 35-8-8, make no mistake, lebron is more than capable.

  • vic21

Always the same sh*t with him. He has a bad game “Oh I’m scared”, “I don’t like/understand the system”. Then he has a good game and talks like he’s Tim Duncan or something.

  • http://slamonline Allenp

    Walt Williams FTW

  • OvaChiken in G Major

HA HA . Look at all the poor haters try to come up with some lame attax while the Heat are takin care of business & crushin fools. Bring on someone good now.

  • matt

As a raps fan i will say that defense wasn’t his strength. That’s what did not make him a franchise player. He was average on that end. Also, he should’ve kept the predator hairstyle/dreads. Now he just looks really wierd. This is the only round he’ll play C, he can’t do that against DH, Shaq, maybe Horford, TD, Pau, Bynum, etc.

  • bashmo

I usually take CB’s side of things in the media, but this is one i cant help but feel annoyed. Frightened? And please dont forget the center options on this team are far from quality, when they meet a team like Orlando or LA or sumthing, with quality 5s, things will be different.

  • JL

$5 he was the weeper in the locker room crying fiasco.

  • http://www.overlocked.com/ Auctioneer

Hope they will make it all the way.

  • Hanoon

don’t disrespect the bosh’s pit!!!! lol

  • MikeC.

Bosh is thinking about trying on his big boy pants. “Look at me ma! I’m wearing big boy pants! I’m wearing a belt! I’m not afraid to play the 5!” That’s how he conducts himself…in a democracy?!?

  • RunNGun

Chris Bosh = FAKE TOUGH GUY.

  • aLEx_002

You people just love to find a way to hate on the HEAT. It’s pretty obvious, anything LeBron says is turned against him, just like anything Chris Bosh says always makes him soft, when people talk about him being SOOO SOFT, why don’t people talk about Dirk Nowitzki? It’s all mutual hate towards the HEAT. Another thing, I guarantee that if Kevin Durant called Derrick Rose or Kobe Bryant or Blake Griffin a ‘fake tough guy” just because of a small altercation, everybody would be on their side, not KD.

  • http://google c_cantrell

Sorry for the short fuze guys, just really dont like ignorant people.
