Rivers, Garnett See Chris Bosh As Series X-Factor

by Ryne Nelson

The Heat/Celtics match-up isn’t the most-anticipated series in Round 2 for no reason. Among the many storylines is which Chris Bosh will show up against Kevin Garnett and the Cs.

Doc Rivers and KG both know the Heat will be near impossible to beat in a best of seven if Bosh is playing on point, as he did in Round 1 against the 76ers.

Paul Flannery of WEEI has the report:

“The Celtics know all about LeBron James and they have dealt with Dwyane Wade in the playoffs before, but they will also be paying close attention to Chris Bosh in their conference semifinal series and for good reason.

‘When Bosh plays really well they blow teams out, Kevin Garnett said. ‘It’s not even close.’

[...]

‘LeBron and Wade are going to be LeBron and Wade,’ Doc Rivers said. ‘They were great before the series, they’ll be great during it and they’ll be great after it and this summer when you’re talking about it you’ll say LeBron and Wade are great players. That’s not going to chance. But when Bosh plays great, then their team plays great. He’s a key guy for them.’”

The Heat were 1-3 against the Celtics in the regular season. Bosh didn’t play particularly well, either, averaging 15 points and just over 8 boards against the Green in the regular season.

The Heat may still win the series without Bosh going Beast Mode. But it’ll be tough Miami to lose is if he does.

He’s gonna be his regular Chris Posh-Spice (shoutout to JTaylor) self again.

  • kunal

That’s true. If he’s willing to throw his body in. I’m predicting a Miami win in 6 and it’s not an upset.

  • Janice

Did you mean “Rivers, Garnett see Bosh as X-factor contestant”?

  • http://itsahardwoodlife.blogspot.com omphalos

I think Garnett might have something to say about Bosh going beast mode.

  • http://360special.blogspot.com/ dev0

Chris Bosh in the second round is definitely uncharted territory

  • http://nicekicks.com meloman2.0

Please KG, do all of us Raptor fans proud and make bosh your personal slave boy

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

lol man Chris Bosh is gonna get PWNED all series.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Max

I think Pierce is gonna manhandle him again and knock out their “X-factor”

  • MUBWAR

Max how can pierce handle Bosh. That dirty player will just knee him in the nuts again. But seriously Wade can handle Ray Ray and the King will make PP his b1tch. The only q is, will Bosh step up to Garnett?

  • http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie/post/What-Chris-Paul-accomplished-against-the-Lakers?urn=nba-349077 AllBall

Let’s hope, for Miami’s sake, these games don’t come down to the final possessions…

  • http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie/post/What-Chris-Paul-accomplished-against-the-Lakers?urn=nba-349077 AllBall

Where “The King” has consistently failed this year.
Saturday on SlamOnline may have got a bit more interesting. Oh yeah, remember guys, a wise man (Eboy) once told me, “When you are the leader, its always on you”. So yes, those games were won and lost with Bron.

  • JTaylor21

Just like I’ve been saying all season long.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Max

    @ MUBWAR
Well u said it, by kneeing him in his nuts

  • Heals

He is, just by default. LBJ and DW3 are well LBJ and DW3, Mike Miller died and Udonis is injured so it’s either him or Chalmers…

  • http://www.nba.com/celtics lights out

can wade handle ray, MUBWAR? if so, why did ray light up the heat this season, including one game where he got 35 and went 7-9 from three? and yeah, lebron guards pierce well, but the reverse is also true. visit nba.com/statscube and go to player vs. player matchup. lebron’s averages are all way down when pierce is on the floor. wade, by the way, scores 10.7 points per 36 while shooting 27% while ray’s on the floor. i’m not saying these stats tell us everything about how this series will shake out, but they certainly reveal something.

  • Bravo

chris bosh? im from toronto and i’ve WITNESSED chris bosh struggle against boston for years. so imma tell you this now. its not gonna change. celtics is 6!

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

I think Celtics in 6 or 7 because Chris Bosh will be Chris Posh-Spice again.

  • alphabetaherculis

you mean the 47,XX factor right?

  • http://www.nba.com/celtics lights out

and has bosh ever “beasted out”? please. he’s a skilled player no doubt, but a good game for him is when his jump shot is falling. dude has no “beast mode.”

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

I haven’t seen Bosh be a monster in the post all season…..

  • http://www.slamonline.com Nick Tha Quick

With my public schoool education and all, I cannot understand the last sentence of this post. Would someone be kind enough to enlighten me on its meaning?

  • Trevor

KG is gonna eat Bosh alive.

  • Riggs

seems like everyone forgot how boston punked all 3 of these dudes separately, you think it wouldnt happen with them together? idiots.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Max

    @ Nick tha quick
    I think it’s a typing fault lol
Also u probably confused bcause Bosh and beast mode don’t belong in one sentence..

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Bosh average d 24 and 12 last year. If that ain’t beasting I don’t know what is.

  • flipnoyce

If Miami plays as a team and listen to coach SPO they might just beat the C’s. We all know the C’s has brought their A game in the post season for the last 4 years and never been defeated in less than 7 game series. So for those who predicted the C’s to lose in 6 is just kidding yourself. It could happen and I’m not saying it wont, but it could also happen in reverse. Heatles is only one letter away from being HEATLESS! Delonte and Jeff Green is our X factor.

  • http://Slamonline.com DatKid

Y’all gotta stop activ like this is gonna be easy for the celtics Smh.. I think bosh will show up..blow by garnett and shoot over him. Bron can take pp out of the series. He’s done it before lol. And the reason wade scores less when Allen is on the floor is bc he’s tired from running around screens constantly..if the heat are smart they’ll put wade on rondo to save his energy and let chalmers chase ray around

  • http://www.nba.com/celtics lights out

i’m not disrespecting bosh’s numbers last year, Allenp, but some of that is stat inflation due to playing on such a bad team. who else on the raptors was going after those rebounds? don’t get me wrong, he’s a very good player, but when i think of a big guy in beast mode, i picture a guy willing his way to the basket, grabbing every rebound in his vicinity, and generally being very physical, and i’ve never seen bosh play that way. again, not to take anything away from him, but let’s not call him something he’s not.

  • http://www.nba.com/celtics lights out

DatKid, since when does Wade chase Ray around screens? usually he looks pretty indifferent when he’s defending off the ball. don’t discredit Ray as a defender, either. he seems to take it personally when he guards a wade or a kobe caliber player.

  • monkeyball

Bosh averaged 24 and 12 as the guy who got all the touches for a below-average team. He’s good, but not beastly. With the Heat, his rebounding and defensive numbers should be way up. The fact that they’re not show he’s not, and will never be, in the same category with a Garnett or Barkley.

  • monkeyball

And yes, I know Barkley wass not that good a defender, but he was one of the greatest rebounders ever.

  • ripslam

KG is going to crap all over Bosh Spice, as usual. I’m not worried.

  • Brothamn

Considering the fact that when the Heat beat the C’s by 23 Bosh only had 13 and 8 in 31 minutes, KG is right. IF ( and it’s a big if) the Heat can get the Big 3 all clicking offensively it’ll be a much tougher series than ppl here seem to think it’ll be

  • http://www.nba.com/celtics Byebye

    We will see

  • Brothamn

Lights out, your argument is only half right. Scoring on a bad team where you’re the only option and rebounding on a bad team are two completely different things. If anything, being a good rebounder on a poor rebounding team is even harder, because you have to put in the effort your teammates aren’t putting in to out-work and out-jump opposing bigs and pursue those loose balls. His rebounding numbers are down partly because James and Wade are elite rebounders for their positions. Both those two are gonna give you upwards of 13 boards a night

  • http://www.nba.com/celtics Byebye

If ray Allen is making shots it’s going 7 games if he isn’t it’s over in 5 or 6

  • robb

    @ripslam no doubt about that

  • http://www.nba.com/celtics lights out

Byebye, you sound like the run-of-the-mill, forever in a state of panic, celtic fan. take it easy, man.

  • JTaylor21

Y’all are acting like this is the KG from 3yrs ago. Amare had him for breakfast and was getting ready for lunch until his teammates refused to feed him and his back gave out. KG is not a pitbull anymore, he’s now old yeller.

  • paul

i think kg will start at center if shaq doesnt play and big baby will guard bosh the heat are going to have matchup problems

  • byebye

the heat cant wait for labron and d wade let the game come to them thats the dumbest statement labron ever made f–k letting the game come to you go take over the game and if the celtics dont rebound they will lose

  • http://Philosophervision@blogspot.com The Philosopher

I want to add some hyperbole to this thread. Maybe I will later on…
Get on the nerves of some, maybe. Delight others, possibly.

  • robb

@ JTaylor21 an old yeller like KG can still manage to kill a pseudo power forward like Christy Posh

  • loaf

Philo – the riddler! Always talking in riddles lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

@JTaylor KG will probably still scare Posh-Spice out of the post all series

  • http://www.nba.com/celtics lightsout

robb and BlackPhantom are both right. and good point, Brothamn. didn’t think of it that way.

  • Arvidas Stabonis

I think a lot of star-struck fanboys think you win games by swearing and making faces. All Bosh has to do to beat KG is be ten years younger and stay calm. KG on the other hand has to ignore his arthritis and take afternoon naps.

  • bashmo

KG just knows how to defend Bosh. If you closely watch all the games between these 2 teams in the regular season, what KG does so well is make Bosh catch the ball in spots he is no comfortable with and also forces him to shoot.

  • blakos

    lol @ old yeller

  • All Day

If Miami has any chance of winning this series, they will need to do three things…1) create turnovers that lead to fast-breaks, 2) hit outside jumpers, and 3) crash the board for offensive rebounds. When D-Wade and LeBron penetrate in the lane, J-O’Neal and Big Baby will be waiting to take charges. KG and J-O’Neal will defend Bosh one-on-one. Boston’s weakness is offensive rebounds…they give up too many offensive rebounds to their opponents. Offensive rebounds lead to second chance points. That was the reason they lost to the Lakers in Game 7 of the Finals.

  • OvaChiken

True Dat. Bosh gots to take it to the hole this round , surely KG is too slow now & end up in foul trouble. The rest will take care of itself. GO Miami !!!

Jamison is the James Worthy to LeBron’s Magic Johnson. Shaq plays Kareem, Varejo is Rambis, Z’ll be back. The Lakers are in trouble. Big, huge trouble. I don’t know what else to say. If Cleveland stays healthy………………
    LOL!

Its a wrap cavs made the best two moves this season out of the contenders diesel and jamison it wont take long to implement jamison because lebron is unselfish hes never had a problem chemistry wise when cle gets a new player hopefully z comes back for the loyalty factor but its tight on the rest of the L everybody else is looking fragile and the lakers showed they dont want it without jamison this is another 20-10 problem cle 2010 champs
    LOL!

  • http://www.nba.com/celtics lights out

funny to read those comments now, AllBall, but I’ll defend Mvp and Philo by saying that if you went back and looked enough, you’d be able to find laughable comments and analysis from all of us.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Still, its funny. Phil, your my boy.

  • http://philosopher.view@gmail.com The Philosopher

    @AllBall:
I’m sure that if you looked further into SLAM’s archives, you would find some comments of mine that could be considered quite assinine, AND donkey like.
Now, I even look back at some of my comments, and wonder what in the hell was I thinking…
Check out my comments on Stephon Marbury in China. I was going in with Jukai, and we even went to the e-mail. It was hillarious, to put it diplomatically. To this day, there are residual effects on both sides, I believe. (him, and I)
    As far as “Jamison being Worthy”, I’ll tell the truth to my brethren;

I got caught up in the moment of The King’s greatness. Then, Jamison froze up…
Then Shaq reminded us that he was old back then.
It was a humiliating moment. Then, when the revelation of the actions of fornication between The King’s maternal and Delonte West, that kind of gave me a sense of vindication, but…
    You got me.
    You… own me. lol

  • http://philosopher.view@gmail.com The Philosopher

And, you are my guy, as well.
You are a beast, to be frank.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

LOL, I was actually not expecting to see your name there. I just typed in Jamison to Cavs and browsed around on this slow Sunday.
I looked for something stupid I have posted about CP to even up the score a little, but I skimmed through one TPU and got bored. By all means, feel free….
I will check out that Steph in China post now.

  • backboard

@ Allenp: Like others said before me – Bosh´s 24 and 12 from last year, dont concern anyone, cause…. well, they are last years numbers. He was playing for the Raptors, who was gonna get the boards? Bargagni? Dont think so……

Bosh is a good player, no doubt. But i am pretty sure KG is gonna eat him alive. Not from a skills standpoint, since Garnett is getting old. But – and that is very important in the playoffs – from a mental standpoint. KG is gonna get into his head.

And what the Celts said about Bosh being the x-factor? Old school mind games. Boston is slick like that.

And no, im not a fan of either team…..

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Grabbing 12 boards a game is not an easy thing to do, no matter who you are–EVEN IF you’re the sole rebounder on your team. Just look at Amare Stoudemire–he was pretty much the Suns’ center for several years and never snagged over 10 boards a game, let alone 12. No offense to Amare…

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

That’s different Teddy, Amare is an awful rebounder when it comes to technique, most of the time it’s like he’s trying to box-out the air.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Bosh is an X-Factor, your career just went down the tube, because an X-Factor is a player who can play, but comes up short a lot (see Lamar Odom).

  • gol d roger

no worries. he played like a bosh

  • http://Slamonline.com Datkid

Word lightsout? Wade spent the entire game chasing ray around screens..to be fair though in general wade does look indifferent when he’s defending off the ball.

  • http://www.nba.com/celtics lights out

you’re right, Datkid, he did put in the effort today off the ball, but yeah, he usually doesn’t.

  • jose

Everyone/alot of ppl dissim bosh; that just proves KG/Doc’s point they made about X-Factor, he plays well, the C’s in trouble

  • Brandon

Boston was lunch..the heat bench bench stepped on their necks

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

You gotta admit, I was right when I said Bosh would be scared out of the post….the only time he tried doing something in the post against KG he got blocked…..and embarrassed.

  • http://www.nba.com/celtics Byebye

Bosh is so soft if he didn’t want to play today all he couldve done was said he was hurt an let Anthony play good grief

  • http://www.nba.com/celtics lights out

as a Celtics fan, i’m not worried about this loss. we played a terrible first half and still were in the game for a lot of the second half thanks to some great runs. we also made a lot of stupid mistakes (bad, unnecessary technicals, ball-watching which led to 25 points for Jones) and got pretty screwed by the refs (not saying that’s why we lost, but it’s true). besides that, wade played unbelievably, but i’m ok with that, since a lot of those shots were jumpers. i’m confident doc and the guys will make the appropriate adjustments and be more than ready to take game 2.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

Bosh is softer than Gasol when he’s not motivated

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

    *When Gasol’s not motivated

  • giogolo

Plus celtics got back everytime Miami looked to get away bcoz momentum would stop everytime lebron would have the ball and wait for things to happen at the top of the key or around the 3 point area where here cieves the ball instrea of tyring to attck everytime and attract defenders. also after WAde’s surges he/they lose momentum coz he already expened a lot of energy on defense gurading rey that his efficiency just goes down cuz he’s tired to create already.

  • giogolo

and Spo doesn’t know and seem to spot that and let Wade get a rest and let the 2nd team with bron carry over for some time. and bron needs to be dynamic then just sit at the top with the ball evryrtime for waht seems like eternity as if waiting to make a great play or something.
