Andre Iguodala on Way Out of Philly?

Could the Sixers’ most well-rounded player be shipped elsewhere this summer? The Philly Inquirer believes so: “You don’t need a microscope to read between the lines of Andre Iguodala’s postseason quotes. If you want to be somewhere, or do something, you rarely bury the admission beneath layers of verbiage. There’s an extra pair of tickets to the Phillies game at work: First come, first served. We’ll take them. Do you kids want to go to Disney World? Yes! An answer to a straightforward question is simple, but Iguodala’s answer to the question, ‘Do you want to play for the 76ers next year?’ was anything but. Here was his first attempt: ‘I expect to be back in the NBA,’ Iguodala said after the team’s season-ending loss to the Miami Heat in the NBA playoffs. ‘It’s always been a dream of mine to play ball. This has been a great ride so far, not just with the Sixers, just playing basketball in general. I’m really looking forward to getting some rest this summer, just letting my body recuperate and get back to 100 percent, and I’m really looking forward to next year being my best year in the league.’ Not his best with the Sixers, but his best in the league. When asked to clarify his answer – considering it was anything but clear – Iguodala continued down the same fuzzy path. ’I think it’s something I’ve always dreamed about, playing in the league,’ Iguodala said. ‘Once I got here, I think I’ve always wanted to be in one place, not having to move around a lot, being comfortable in one spot.’ Iguodala never actually said he didn’t want to return to the Sixers. He danced around igniting an aggressive offseason controversy, but he tossed in a cup of passive-aggressiveness for confusion. Iguodala has not asked Sixers management for a trade, but the team will be looking to trade him this summer. Sixers coach Doug Collins has finally found a nucleus of guys – Thaddeus Young, Jrue Holiday, Lou Williams, and Jodie Meeks – who enjoy playing for the Sixers. Veteran power forward Elton Brand, in addition to having an anchor of a contract, serves as a complementary presence for those guys.”

Why does Iggy want to leave?

  • ab40

OKC do what you gotta do this solves your 2guard problem besides the three drives he does per game dequan cook doe the same as Harden. Trade Harden and then some and get Iggy

  • orl.chris

orlando needs wings that can defend in a bad way…

The Philly-Iggy situation has always been confusing. They want to trade him, then he plays well near the end of the season, then the offseason starts and the talks start up again. Then nothing happens, and the cycle continues.

…to the Knicks! Make it happen Walsh!

  • Hussman25

Ill drive this fool to the airport!

^ Not going to happen. Have you seen Iggy’s contract? He’s owed over 44 million over the next 3 year’s with the last year being a player option, which he’ll most certainely opt into. I’d rather have JR Smith at a better price.

I feel like he’d be an okay fit on Toronto as the scoring, defending, rebounding SF we desperately need, but a couple things dissuade me. 1. We need a better shooter; inside, outside, and pullup jumpers 2. Iggy’s game is too similar to DeMar’s. and 3. I think he wants out of the Atlantic Division entirely

As a lifelong Sixer fan I can answer some of the reasons why it’s gotten to this point. First of all, his offensive game has not evolved in the 7 years he’s been in the league. He continues to rely on his broken jumpshot time and time again even when he and everyone else knows that is the weakest part of his offense. He’s 6’7″ and a solid 220, yet hasn’t developed any semblance of a post game. His attitude, given that he is considered a leader on the team, is atrocious. Elton Brand, one of the other leaders, played with a fractured hand this year. When asked, before a game late in the season, if he’s going to play, his answer? Paraphrased, we’re making a playoff push, of course I’m playing. That same game, Iguodala sat out with knee soreness and no explanation. To me, that’s a telling sign of a poor attitude. Yes, he’s one of the premier defenders in the league, but he thinks he’s in the same league as guys like Lebron, when he is far from it. I’m not going to blame him for getting paid, because that is on the organization, but watching him brick off balance fade-a-ways time and time again to try and win the game has gotten us to the tipping point now. Adios, Dre.

man…i hope he goes to the western conference. we don’t need anymore contenders here in the east

Trade Turk, Bass, and 2 second rounders for him. That could help keep Dwight in Orlando…

  • Will Lee

Lakers to get him as the Pippen of the Jorda. Maybe Artest + Bynum will work.

Then Dwight for Pau + some craps.

    Then keep Lamar.

  • Fat Lever

Caboose, are you serious? That is sh!t on a stick. 2 second rounders? Hahaha. Turk is done, Bass is a nice 1st forward to have off the bench, but we already have that with Thad. Will, if we can get Bynum, I’ll gladly take that deal.

Fat, I’m not sure how much Philly values Iggy, but it seems like they’re always willing to trade him. Yeah, that was probably overly optimistic on my part haha.
