Derrick Rose Accepts Blame for Chicago’s Game 4 Loss

The Bulls are now on the brink of elimination, and DRose — who couldn’t get past LeBron James’ defense — says it’s his fault. From the Chicago Tribune: “Maybe if he would have made his typical quick move to the basket, Rose would have won the game and tied the series 2-2 going back to Chicago. Instead, James seemed to make it a personal challenge to keep the MVP from being the hero. ‘The MVP has a lot of energy,’ James said after the game. ‘I just tried to bring my intensity defensively. … Our team defense tried to key on him all game.’ When it counted the most, Rose didn’t find himself up against Mike Bibby or Mario Chalmers. It was James and Dwyane who took on the hefty defensive challenge of slowing down Rose in the clutch. And it worked. ‘Tonight definitely was on me,’ Rose said. ‘I had two opportunities to end the game. Couldn’t do it. If anything, learn from it.’ Rose finished 8 of 27 from the field for 23 points, was 1 of 9 from the 3-point range and had seven turnovers. He was 1 for 5 from the field in the fourth quarter and was 0 for 3 in overtime with a turnover. Over the last three games, the guy known for being a closer couldn’t find a way to finish. Rose shot 2 for 13 from the field in the fourth quarter and overtime of the last three playoff games. Twice in the final minute of regulation, Rose couldn’t convert one-on-one isolation plays while guarded by James. And throughout the quarter, James seemed to give Rose fits with his size and Rose simply couldn’t find enough space to create. ‘He already played 40-something minutes when we made the (defensive) switch, and he stepped up to the challenge,’ Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. ‘That’s as tough a cover as you have in the league. (Rose) is so explosive and clever with the ball. It really takes a team effort.’ Then Wade jumped into the mix guarding Rose and denied the ball on a couple of possession. Wade preserved the victory when he blocked a driving layup attempt by Rose in overtime with the Heat up 97-91.”

he had james on his heels and rather than cross him over, he stepped back and took a shot when his FG% was poor. That’s on some russ westbrook ish right there.

He been inconsistent this whole playoffs but nobody says anything….

Pass the ball a little bit, ballhogVP.

Derrick rose has low bball iq. Point blank. He decided that even though he just missed a long two pointer the possession before, he wanted to make another long one that had no chance of going in insteada trying for the drive to the basket. Coach shoulda benched Rose and went with a different lineup. Derrick rose thought he was michael jordan, then he realized his shot is about the same as westbrook.

Russell Westbrook indeed. They have pretty much the same stats, yet the media rides Rose’s jock because that’s the popular narrative. LeBron showed Rose how to play like an MVP last night. I hate LeBron, but you have to give him credit for hitting big shots and making big plays this year.

Glad to see he accepts the blame. Cause he sure as hell deserves it.

  • SigmaMan

I wouldn’t say ball hog, he has to take all those shots because he is the best scorer on the team. Westbrook has the best scorer in the league on his team.I agree tho he should have went to the basket when he lebron off balance.

The real MVP showed out Rose is still paying dues

  • Chicago

Rose is on a team with no one else to pick up any slack, he is in this deep of the playoffs for the first time, he accepts all the blame every time he effs up unlike westbrook who freaks out……rose if anything is not a ball hog….past two years people says he plays too passive, now hes a ball hog, make up your mind people

  • Eddie1

Drose is always accepting the blame, thinking it will resolve him of guilt. Quit making a headline of it Slam. I bet you after Game 5, Slam will have another post saying Drose accepts blame for series lost. Homie hand back your MVP.

  • eric

Why isn’t anyone accusing Rose of quitting? His stats are worse than those Bron put up last year against Boston.

  • stacey king

if you guys think derrick should hand back his mvp, i’d like dirk’s from a couple years ago, dude got bounced out first round, this is the ec finals, nothing is easy here

y’all know MVP is a reg. season award, right?
    and russell westbrook?
this isn’t even worth debating anymore.

  • AD

Why would drose hand back his mvp…… it was for the reg season…. plus lebron aint the mvp dirk is…

I swear do people watch the games or just look at the box score? D Rose has been guarded by 2 of the best 2-way bball players in the L, while who has been guarding Westbrook in the Dallas OKC series? Plus the Heat had 2nd best Defense in the L for a reason.

    27.3 – 4.3 – 7.7 on 40/25/83 with 3.6 turnovers
    23.4 – 5.2 – 6.4 on 39/31/84 with 4.7 turnovers
    I don’t think they’re identical at all

@airs cosign. Do people really think that just because they’re both playing erratically that they’re similar? Anyone think Westbrook could’ve taken the Bulls to the Eastern Conference Finals?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Max

    Dwight Howard was the MVP.

  • robb

If the rest of the Bulls showed up it wouldn’t hurt.

why the hell did Rose have no help. The best play Thibodeau could draw up was an isolation one on one and Rose trying to juke him and jack up a contested shot? How about a pick and roll or just rushing to the basket? He basically had him faked out and instead shot right where James was faked out at. All kinds of stupid at the end there. Of course if I’m there at an end game situ against James I would not know what to do either lol. I think if he didn’t have to contribute so much on offense he could be the best defensive player. Lock down anyone, except maybe Kobe sometimes and Dirk I don’t think he is big enough. But even when Kobe was closer to his prime you could see he struggled. I hate to say it but the Heat are really gelling at the right time. The Bulls are not getting the calls and not getting it done. Dwayne Wade’s blocks were even more clutch than anything. The Heat earned it with their D.

  • showtime

    westbrook = D rose

  • bike

He should. Who in their right mind goes one on one with James and jacks up a long range jumper when said shooter has at best a mediocre outside shot? MVP decision should wait until playoffs are over.

  • DS44

If the Bulls had another scorer Rose wouldn’t have to do it all by himself,no one else on the team showed up after game 1.
