Dwight Howard: Orlando Media Trying to Push Me Out

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

Dwight Howard’s impending free agency, and the general belief that he won’t be a member of the Orlando Magic for very much longer, have been hot-button topics for a couple of years now.

After the Los Angeles Lakers were unceremoniously booted out of the Playoffs on Sunday, the rumors that Dwight was LA-bound went into overdrive. And Howard evidently hears about all of them, which is upsetting for the big fella.

Dwight Howard took to Twitter late last night to voice his frustration with the media, blaming the local paper for seemingly trying to push him out of town.

It’s something Howard claims the local press also did to Shaquille O’Neal before he left Orlando for Hollywood:

“Y does it seem like the writers of Orlando sentinel are tryna push me out of Orlando with dumb articles. It’s annoying. Can I enjoy my summer and get ready for next season in Orlando.

Pls. Same thing u guys did to Shaq. Smh

The reality is that the media in Orlando is actually quite pro-Howard; all you have to do is read most of the newspaper articles and blog posts to realize it.

Should Dwight Howard leave as a free agent next summer — or via trade during the 2011-2012 season — it won’t be due to the media, but that aspect will make for a terrific excuse. Best of luck to him trying to sell it, though.

If Dwight leaves, there is only one person to blame…DWIGHT! There are no guarantees in life other than paying taxes, dying and STUPID message boards! Hey Dwight, you’ve had a chance to show what you’ve got and you failed miserably against the Lakers in the Finals. You continue to think you’re a scoring machine, but all you really do is muck up the offense. You go through highs and lows at the free throw line, which prevents going to you at the end of a close game. You turn the ball over more than most politicians flip-flop. You always seem to fail just at the worst possible time during a close game. You don’t learn from your idiotic fouls and whining tantrums. You’ve never learned that passing off is a part of smart basketball and keeps everyone in rhythm to make those long threes. If nobody’s told you, yet, you ARE allowed to go after an offensive rebound. And lastly, if ANYBODY has been patient the last 7 years it’s been the Magic fans. Your off the court moral failures are catching up with your good civic reputation. Seems the rumor is you’ve put more than one bun in the oven. I can’t think of any other city and fans that would have been more perfect for you growing up into the MAN your God called you to be. If you leave for “greener pastures,” be careful where you walk. There’s a whole lotta dung out there!

I agree with Dwight, I do think the media helped drive Shaq out of Orlando. Now the same people are writing stupid stuff again. Are you that hard up for something to write, pick things that are not personal. He is worth what ever money he can get to keep playing for the Magic. He plays hard most every night that there are games. He is a leader, and he leads by example. We need you Dwight, the Magic need more.
