Jalen Rose and Grant Hill End Feud

After Jalen Rose and Grant Hill went back and forth a few times following Rose’s now-infamous comments about Hill and Duke University in ESPN‘s Fab Five documentary, the two have reportedly deaded their beef, with the Phoenix Suns forward throwing his support behind the ESPN analyst’s Detroit charter school. Via the Worldwide Leader: “Former Michigan basketball star Jalen Rose says Grant Hill has agreed to help support the new charter school in Detroit bearing Rose’s name. The Jalen Rose Leadership Academy is expected to open in September. Rose says Hill has promised to lend his support and that things are fine between them after Hill criticized Rose in March for comments he made in an ESPN documentary about Michigan’s famous Fab Five. Hill, a former Duke standout, criticized Rose in the New York Times for saying the Blue Devils ‘only recruited black players that were ‘Uncle Toms.” Rose says he was only describing how he felt back when he was a teenager — as opposed to now. ‘Any time, for example, you have a critically acclaimed piece like the Fab Five documentary has been, you’re going to have 99 percent of the people that love it, but when you have the brutal honesty, you’re going to have that 1 percent on the other side of the coin, so to speak,’ Rose said Saturday. ‘I definitely talked to Grant and reached out to Coach K, and again clarified that that was how I felt as a high school recruit.’ A Detroit native, Rose threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Detroit Tigers’ game Saturday against Kansas City. Afterward, he was eager to promote the new school, and he said Hill — a former Detroit Piston — has agreed to support the venture.”

This whole “uncle Tom” nonsense, and Im a real black man cause I’ve got swag and act real thuggish helps nobody, perhaps one of the many reasons there’s such high crime rate with these wannabe cardboard gangsters.

this is a different topic….but im tired of seeing my black friends (especially women) updating their facebook status with something that has to do with “SWAG”.

I’m glad to see this thing getting resolved and hopefully put behind us! Jalen Rose never meant to slander anyone during the Fab Five documentary and was simply speaking from his view as a high school kid 20 years ago.

Media hype. Beef is what Mcdees wants you to believe is in the burgers they sell. This was a misunderstanding. However you would think a duke grad would know the fab fiver was talkin in the past tense.

What they’re doing sounds like great idea, though. Best of luck to the Leadership Academy!

Definitely media hype and I’m kinda disappointed Grant Hill fell for it. If he really took issue with the comments, he could have easily got in contact with Jalen to talk about it, versus immediately airing him out in the NYTimes of all places. But at least its over now.

Rose said it publicly, why can’t Grant Hill talk to Rose publicly?

of course everything is fine between them, Grant is smart enough to understand Jalen’s comments. That’s how he felt towards Duke back in the day. Jalen is a great guy who’s come a long way since his days as a wolverine. I love both guys.

Did anyone else feel that this ‘feud’ isn’t entirely settled unless it involves a game of 1on1??

@Jukai, Rose didn’t call out Grant individually. He made the comment about Duke as a whole, which was played as part of his interview in the documentary. A comment he also clarified before and after it aired and before Grant responded. So for Grant to ignore all of that and go straight to the papers was lame, imo.

Am I the oly one who thinks Grant may have taken a little offence, but that his response was really funny? It’s a total burn, no-one can argue that… I think Grant took much less offence than what’s been reported.

Grant got shook b/c he knows Duke Black players used to be called sellouts. Now that Obama is President he wants to be “black” (as defined by Jalen Rose) all of a sudden and “keep it real”….

If they really squashed it, I want to see them announce a game together.
