Kevin Durant: ‘Russell Westbrook Will Not Go 3-for-15 Again’

An understandably frustrated KD told the media last night, following a Game 1 loss in the WCF, that his star teammate’s struggles are a thing of the past. From The Oklahoman: “Dirk Nowitzki missed three shots. Russell Westbrook made three shots. The rest is just details. Even Kevin Durant’s spectacular show, which somehow found its way off the marquee of the Mavericks’ 121-112 victory over the Thunder in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals on Tuesday night at American Airlines Center. Nowitzki tossed the ball at the basket 39 times. It fell through the net 36 times for Dr. Dirkenstein. Nowitzki made all 24 of his foul shots, drawing whistles in bunches. Nowitzki scored 48 points, trumping Durant’s brilliant 40. But what the 7-foot German Munster really had on Durant was a superior sidekick. In a game that quickly became a shootout, thanks to baskets by the number and whistles by the score, Nowitzki’s running buddy delivered. Durant’s did not. Westbrook made just three of 15 shots, and though he finished with 20 points thanks to repeated trips to the foul line, Westbrook’s errant offense kept the Thunder from mounting a serious charge most of the night. Meanwhile, Dallas’ Jason Terry scored 24 points, and for grins, backup point guard J.J. Barea added 21. They combined to make 16 of 28 shots. ‘Russell Westbrook will not go 3-for-15 again,’ Durant said. ‘You can quote me on that.’”

Looks to be another entertaining series. Thunder has been involved in most exciting series in playoffs; Denver, Grizzlies, and now looks to be Mabericks. Lots of scoring and superstars shining. Insane how efficient Durant and Nowitzki were in Game 1. Which leads to Russell Westbrook. I can’t believe he allowed Barea look like All Star yesterday. This isn’t Fisher or Steve Blake here. Poor D by Russell. 3-15 shooting doesn’t matter; guard your man.

KD’s absolutely right! Westbrook’s gonna go 3-for-30 in game 2.

    …because he’ll only get 10 shots in game 2.

    lmaooooo @shuref00t

yup, westbrook is absolutely capable of shooting worse than 3-for-15

LOL @ everyone killing Westbrook. On a serious note he’ll up his percentage and go 4-for-15, I promise….

He’s got to get back to passing the ball… 3 assists 4 turnovers last night.

If the Thunder really feel that they lost the game because of problems with their offense, they are a lot farther from a title than they think. Hopefully Scott Brooks knows better.

man okc played terrible…… why not stop everybody and let dirk get his.. BAREA 21 pts…. pathetic.. he’s no bum but C’MON SON

Did anyone watch the game? JJ didn’t drop the points on Westbrook. He mainly lit up Nate Robinson. He had like 8 straight points on him.

Durant: Westbrook, you gonna go 3 for 15 again? Westbrook: Please, I can go 3 for 15 with my eyes closed.

  • robb

    Shoot less Russell Westbrook!

Kevin Durant also said Westbrook will not get only 3 assists again this series. Or that’s what he should have said.

  • Jeff

I guess Russ forget about game 7 pretty quickly. If only he could play like that all the time, the Thunder would be great.

  • Eddie1

Nate Robinson got that ADD ish son.

i think after watching the laker series, everyone should realise that the mavs when firing on all cylinders like they are now, they are impossible to beat. barea and terry are the midget assassins out there. playing out of their minds. terry’s bad game was basically shooting 50% instead of 90%. if they keep rolling like this through the thunder, they will win the championship. if they don’t catch a cold.

on another note, westbrook is just not getting it. that and he really never was a good shooter. i’m not sure why he thinks he is. but for him tho 15 shots isn’t that much. although, you gotta look at where he shot 18 FTs. so his usage was pretty high (probably gotta adjust for the high scoring since I don’t know what his usage is, but i remember it always being really high).

Most surprising line of last night: Nate Robinson played.

(Killa Cam voice) “Like bowling .. stay in your lane fam.” Kill the drama and all the back and forth dude. Get the ball to Durant and keep it moving.

    He’ll go 8-20 next game

  • OvaChicken

how about : Durant will get beat up over this series then Bron gonna eat Dirk alive for dessert.

  • Waylonakolipse

Maybe so KD but your still gonna get stomped by Dallas.

  • Mike From Spain

Dallas only won by 9 with an off game from Westbrook and a legendary performance by Dirk and the bench. All I’m saying is, I don’t expect Dirk to put in 48 every game, or Westbrook to shoot so poorly all the time.
