Report: Knicks to Target Samuel Dalembert in Free Agency

According to the NY Post, the Knicks’ summer shopping for free agents won’t be quite as exciting as it was last year: “With the chances slim of adding a quality center with the 17th pick in the draft slim and with an unkind salary cap situation in 2011, sources close to Knicks president Donnie Walsh say he has targeted Kings 6-foot-11 shotblocker Samuel Dalembert as the likeliest free-agent catch this summer. Walsh’s old-school principles have made adding a big, bruising starting defensive center to play alongside power forward Amar’e Stoudemire as his No. 1 priority. It might be a strong enough urge to sacrifice what could be maximum cap room in 2012, essentially sacrificing a shot at point guard Chris Paul. The Knicks realize some top free agents likely will stay put or be out of their financial range. Memphis’ Marc Gasol and Dallas’ Tyson Chandler are expected to re-sign, and the Clippers probably will match an offer to the young DeAndre Jordan. That’s where Dalembert comes in. According to a source, Dalembert likely would choose the Knicks if their offer is comparable with any others. Dalembert has strong New York-area ties. He played his senior year in high school at St. Patrick’s in Elizabeth, N.J., before heading to Seton Hall. An avid fundraiser for Haiti’s economic plight, he also likes the visibility of being a voice for New York’s large Haitian population.”

Odds that they grossly overpay this man? I just dont see this move working out in the end.

“Walsh’s old-school principles have made adding a big, bruising starting defensive center”. Not sure how bruising you can be when you’re jacking up 15ft turnaround fallaway jumpers. I have no doubts that Sammy will get shot happy in Antoni’s offense. Great guy, but not the brightest bulb in the pack. Good luck with that.

Why don’t they just draft faried. T.Douglas is decent enough to spell out billups, maybe he can be a starter in the future. wings are easy to find & get 4 cheap. With Faried u know what u are getting. he is a solid role player who can give 24 mins/game in the NBA, maybe more. He is one of the few guys in the draft who we know what he can do & whichever team that gets him will love him.

As long as Dalembert knows that he’s going to be a role player before he signs, then I’m ok with this move. He can hang out with Andy Rautins and talk about moose and poutine.

I havent seen him play too much, but didnt think that he was a bruiser type center, thought he was a decent shot blocker and help defender, eg Camby.

unmm faried is too small to play center and the knicks cant have amare at center in the east, faried could be a good role player for them for sure, would be a good choice if dumbtoni wasnt the coach, players dont really listen to him and he has a hard time garnering respect with his 7-8 man rotation that doesnt allow mistakes. they should get a good assistant if they are gonna sign people who arent THAT intersted in winning.

yo we had him and even though i liked the guy the man was a downer (he doesn’t play with ferocity), couldve been a lot better than he is

I’ve been hoping they would take a look at him for a while now. As long as they don’t overpay him I think he’d be a good addition. As it stands he’d be the only real center on the roster. Amare is not a center and he needs to get back to playing his position.

Is that all Canadians talk about MikeC?

Knicks made the “big moves” during the season.. Now its time to fill-in some missing pieces and get ready for next season.. Being a championship team doesn’t happen overnight, unless you’re in Miami..

I bet, should they land Dalembert, touch-up the bench a little bit, and convince Rick Adelman to coach for a year or two, Knicks will be in the semis, at least..

  • Izack_Chapel

Not much of a BANGER, but other than when u see howard, who else in the east is there to bang with? Would be a good look for the knicks.

  • KC

what!!!!!! yeah this is gonna get you closer to at title lol what a joke. Good luck NYC fans. Sam played for my sixers and is one of the most frustrating players you will ever watch.

Walsh describes this man as “a big, brusing (starting)defensive center.” Big and center are the only correct accruate descriptions of him.

  • RunNGun

What can I say… make it happen WALSH!

  • MikeC.

@MUBWAR – sometimes we talk about maple syrup and bears too. But mostly, we talk about moose and poutine.
