Tom Thibodeau Sticking Up for Carlos Boozer

The Bulls’ head coach didn’t get quite as emotional as Joakim Noah did regarding Carlos Boozer’s struggles, but Tom Thibodeau made it clear that he’s firmly on the struggling forward’s side. From ESPN: “Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau continues to defend Carlos Boozer despite the power forward’s poor production throughout the playoffs. ‘We need him out there,’ Thibodeau said after Thursday’s practice. ‘His rebounding is critical for us, post presence, people collapse on him, so it opens up a lot of things for everybody. So he’s got to just keep doing what he’s doing. Each day he’ll get better and better.’ Boozer, who suffered a turf toe injury in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals against the Indiana Pacers on April 26, continues to struggle and has drawn the ire of Bulls fans. He was booed at the United Center during various points of Game 2 against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday. Thibodeau said that he doesn’t think he needs to speak to Boozer about the backlash from fans. ‘Look, Carlos has been in the league for a long time,’ Thibodeau said. ‘He’s been through every situation you could possibly be through. He’ll handle it fine. He’s been a big-time player in this league for a long time, so he knows what he has to do.’ Boozer, who averaged 17.5 points and 9.6 rebounds in 59 regular-season games, is averaging 10.3 points on 38.2 percent shooting from the field and 10.0 rebounds.”

when are they gonna question Drose passing skills…. Dnt get me wrong hes a great player… but he has too many turnovers… Plus Carlos boozer is being guarded by good defenders…. Josh smith is nasty …. I think drose needs to start looking to pass first

    @AD
DRose always adds something new to his game each year, starting with the 3 point improvement, eventually next season (hopefully no lockout but doubtful) he’ll have more PG skills, maybe average 25 PPG 10 AST and 5 REB

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

The Bulls def need Booz, but if he keeps this sh*t up I want to see more of Taj and a lot less Booz, but it’s good to see the team is having his back, because he can defenitely use some confidense right now. I would also like to see Drose keep his shot attempt between 15-20 and stop shooting 3′s. They should be fine tonight and take care of business in the ATL.

Its not the MVP fault he had 10 assist in game 2 win!! He is passing Boozer is just struggling plain and simple but He will eventually pull it together

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

@AD, it’s not his passing skills, it’s him being careless at times and trying to do a little too much. He has great vision. He’s unselfish, people who just started paying attention, think he’s some kind of ballhog, but in HS his coach had to force him to take shots, in college he never forced anything. It’s this particulary team that really needs his scoring, even Thibs will tell you they need it.

  • dahon

he will silence his critics…next year..he’s just 22

  • AD

@JAHMAI this aint HS or college…. U shouldnt have to tell a point guard to pass. Thats like telling a bird to fly………. And if hes unselfish why does he take 27 to 30 shots a game…….. Hopefully hell gain some more pg skills in the off season… cuz if he does he is defiently the best pg in the game … but for now he’s just an upgraded westbrook……. But for now ima enjoy him making people look bad instead of making people look good

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Thibs needs to worry more about Rose’s shot selection, because Derbrick Rose 3′s = transition points for opposition.

  • slamfan4life

hey orange, howre the knicks doin bro?

  • bashmo

^LOL but anyways, I agree with Jahmai, Rose can’t pass as well as he should and he jacks up way too many jumpshots. The VERY best PGs in the league are pass first type guys(DWill, Nash, CP3)

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

    @slamfan4life: Touche. *golf clap*

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

@AD, damn man, I just said they need his offense, nobody else can create a shot for themselve on the Bulls except for Drose and when coach tells you they need your points… Now, I just said he needs to take less bad shots and that he’s careless at times. But when you’ve got a guy who can get buckets like Drose can, you use it.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Would Booz be struggling like this with D Will running the show? And Utah did have team success, consistently getting out of the 1st round and reached the Conference Finals once.

  • AD

you telln me boozer can’t get his points on the block….. and deng cant create off the dribble…. I know the bulls only have three ppl who can do it but when ur pg has multiple games with 7 or8 turnovers u gotta try sumthn diff…. but.. its not gon happen now its an long process… & and ALLBALL drose aint smart enough to be like dem.. he gotta find his own niche..

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

@AD, you’re seriously bringing up Boozer’s scoring? In case you haven’t noticed Boozer hasn’t exactly been a scorer, defender or anything else good in the playoffs. Deng can’t really create that well off the dribble no. Yes, the TO’s are bad the efficiency is bad (right now) but Drose is really the only one who consistantly gets buckets. Deng can be really good but Rose really has to set him up.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

@AllBall, Booz is playing ‘hurt’ so who knows. It’s not like he’s been bad along Drose all season, during the RS he was a 18,10 guy, it’s just at the most important time of the year he’s playing crappy. Although the Bulls still need to try and get him better touches, he hasn’t really done his part.

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

“Rose ain’t smart enough to be like dem” says the guy who’s consitently brought up stupid point after stupid point.
Man, where’s my smart commenters when you need them?
It’s all good though, you ain’t smart enough to be like “dem”.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

I was thinking, Rose is dumb now?
A.D probably meant basketball I.Q, but he wasn’t smart enough to put his thoughts into words.

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

Rose always gets sh*tted on for his high amount of turnovers.
And while I admit he’s no Chris Paul when it comes to limiting them, I also gotta ask why, at 3.4 turnovers per game this past season, he gets the honor of being sh*tted on while Deron Williams averaged 3.5, Russell Westbrook averaged 3.9, Steve Nash averaged 3.5, Rajon Rondo averaged 3.4, and John Wall averaged 3.8?

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

    Yeah, I’m using stats.
So I’ma start saying advanced stats are for p*ssies, lol.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

LOL! I did not know those figures. You make a good point.

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

AllBall, I’m sure you already knew your boy Paul stays under 3 turnovers as well, Jason Kidd too.
But while looking at PG’s turnovers per game numbers on BBall reference, I was surprised to see Brandon Jennings is in the under 3 a game club too.
If only he was in the over 40% from the field club…

  • bull22

all you boozer critics get off boozer’s back.
yeah its frustrating, but the man is playing hard and trying… one football player said once that having turf toe is like getting hit there with a sledgehammer… we need to SUPPORT CARLOS because he is the one out there…. GO BULLS!

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Dwill and Nash both averaged a full assist more than Rose to go along with similar turnover numbers.
That’s why they don’t get criticized as much, plus, they take fewer shots.
I think dude has been bad in the playoffs as far as turnovers but during the season he was fine. Chris Paul is an anomaly

  • AD

lmao yall funny I AINT KNOW I WAS DEALING WIT ENGLISH PROFESSORS.. and how is my point stupid.. its an opinion @ rigo and @ allball lemme clear it.up Bball Iq wise ,point guard wise w.e … Hes not as smart as DWILL CP3 ETC…… his thing is his althleticsm passing aint aprt of his game those 10 ast are overated because hes double teamed.. anybody with hands can throw the ball….. Drose is great…. maybe the next iverson..(Marketability wise) but drose need to watch Dwill so he can get used to Boozer… Is that good enough for you Professor RIGO @ NOBALL

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Yeah, I knew CP was at 2.2 (astounding really), did not know those other figures. Allen made a good counter point, though. Talking about assist numbers.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

AD I knew what you meant. Dumb was just the wrong word to use.

  • http://Twitter.com/smileyoufckers Bryan

Rose seems more similar to Steph with each game.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

In Nash’s case, it was more like four assists more than Rose I think. that changes the entire assist to turnover ratio

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

    Agreed ^^^

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

With Allen at 3:05, that is.

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

    I ain’t no English professor.
If I was I’da slapped myself for my wanton use of double negatives and suspect spelling years ago.
If I was an English professor though, I’d bar you from class. Straight up.
Anyways, your opinion is based on what?
You say passing ain’t a part of his game, but somehow he’s improved by almost 2 per this year. If it wasn’t a part of his game, wouldn’t his average remain at 6 or lower his whole career?
And questioniong his bball IQ is silly. Dude knows what he’s doing, and Coach Thibs and his teammates obviously support his style of playing should put an end to all the convo of him being selfish or whatever.
The turnovers come partly from trying to do too much at times and partly from defenses keying in on him more than they do on any other point guard in the league.
    He’s 22 years old, y’all.
Y’all act like he’s reached his peak already.
And Bryan, come on now. You’re smarter than that.

  • http://Twitter.com/smileyoufckers Bryan

I didn’t mean it as an insult. I love Steph. I just won’t be surprised to see “all alone 1″ scribbled on his kicks tonight, and I won’t blame him.

  • AD

i didnt say he was dumb……. i said he wasnt smart enough…. You have to be a smart pg to be in the NBA .. but hes not as smart as the best.. His teamates should support what hes doing but they should also try giving booz the the ball in the post. He may be struggln but he can get out of it.

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

Ha, I could see that scriblled on his kicks too. But not by him.

  • http://http//portlandfan1203.blogspot.com Karley

@AD are you kidding me DRose with too many turnovers. you obviously know nothin. Every good point guard in the NBA is going to have many turn overs he brings the ball up every time. Steve Nash for instance lead the league in turnovers one year. dont comment

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

    *scribbled.
    Sorry.
Professor Enigmatic smacked me for that one as well.

  • giogolo

Drose game is indeed like stephon..steph i believe had a slight advantage on strength than him..but only up to that. evrything about drose character is in the total oppostie of what who steph is..

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    ^key distinction.
sometimes we forget that character and mindset are just as important to shaping players as talent. Rose and Steph ball alike, but they don’t think alike.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

What a GREAT game by MVP Derrick Rose last night. I was so impressed. Enigmatic is probably still watching highlights from last night’s game on 1 hour of sleep. **throws Rose Petals**
