Brandon Knight to Push Rip Hamilton Out of Detroit?

According to the Detroit News, the Pistons’ pick of Brandon Knight in the NBA Draft is the latest sign that Rip Hamilton’s days in Motown will soon come to an end: “He’s a good shooter and possesses a fearless attitude that’s only matched by his low-key demeanor and intelligence. Pistons president Joe Dumars said the team would put the ball in his hands and allow him to grow. ‘He has some characteristics we need to add to this team,’ Dumars said. ‘He’s not afraid, wants to take whatever challenge there is.’ Knight wants to be a point guard and hasn’t shied away from the responsibility. Too many times with the Pistons last season, no one wanted to take accountability for what went on on the floor. Knight adds to the logjam in the backcourt with Richard Hamilton, Ben Gordon, Rodney Stuckey and Will Bynum. At times it seemed none was happy with his role or minutes, and the addition of Knight would only seem to complicate matters. However, it gives the Pistons some flexibility to decide what to do with those players, and Dumars made a point to say he’ll continue to add young talent. It wasn’t a shot at Hamilton per se, but it’s no secret Dumars would love to move the Pistons’ all-time leading playoff scorer, who’s on the downside of his career. The Pistons won’t give him away, but they are shopping him.”

Well when you have McGrady running the point I guess it’s time for some changes…

McGrady running the point was my favforite part of last season. Dude looked good imo.

  • MikeC.

I think McGrady would be a nice fit on almost any team in the league, depending on his attitude. He’d be a great bench player because he can play the 1, 2 or 3. He could get lots of minutes as a backup, and due to his versatility, he could end up getting starter’s minutes. He could be a slightly smaller version of Lamar Odom but with better shooting and less rebounding.

They need to give him away. Srsly.

@MikeC I agree with you 100% about T-Mac he could easily get a team 10-12ppg,5-7rpg,and 4-7apg if he was giving steady mins on a good team.

I just hope Rip lands on a good team. He and Tayshaun are better suited for a winning atmosphere. Joe Dumars main objective should be getting rid of Rip, Tay, Maxiel and Mr. Charmin aka Charlie V.

    I would give him away.

  • Garrett

@TADOne: I think you’re the only other Pistons fan around these parts that I know of. Do you ever follow detroitbadboys dot com? It’s one of the best Pistons blogs out there. I’d give Rip away for nothing at this point. And Tay.

Yeah i’ve been on the site Garrett, but i would be lying if i said i follow it religiously. And Wayno would be the only other Pistons fan around these parts that i am aware of.

Hasn’t Rip been trying to Push Rip out of Detroit for a few years now? Maybe Brandon Knight is going to get a thank you letter.

Well, when you go through ownership change and the GM’s hands are tied, it is kind of difficult to trade a player even if they have the desire to leave. The Pistons no longer have this problem.

I like the Pistons when I was a child when they had the 2 Wallace’s.
    Hard to like em now..

I don’t think Rip or Prince qualify as vets that need to go to a winning team. They already got their ring.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I understand, what kind of player do you think/want them to go for Tad?

  • http://www.slamonline.com TADOne

A big….any big. I would take any big outside of Kwame Brown and Ewing.

  • http://www.slamonline.com TADOne

But seriously, I would look at Utah since they have a glut of big men now and try to get either Okur (possible) or Jefferson (highly unlikely). Maybe see if Brand is available. Kaman could probably be had. I would also call NO about Okafor.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

lol. I would like to see Detroit get a 4 that can bang down low. Someone that compliments Greg Monroe, then I think Detroit could at some point, run their offense through. Kind of like Sacramento did with Divac and Miller in the early 2000′s. Like Paul Millsap if they could find a way to capitalize on Utah’s abundance of bigs.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

wow haha was typing when you posted that. Kaman would be a good look, I just heard the Clippers are asking for a lot.

Rip needs to shut up and stop complaining. Real talk. He got his money, disagreed with coach, and complained. Yeah, the Pistons are going with youth and phasing Rip out, but that’s the way it goes. Unless he just leaves money on the table like Bibby did (after getting dealt from the Wiz) – which I doubt, Rip just needs to play the good soldier.

  • T-Money

I think they’re going to give Rip the Tinsley treatment pretty soon. Just stay at home and collect checks until we can trade you.

Okur has already played (and won) for Detroit…. I think Detroit just need to rebuild from the ground up… the basketball team should probably do the same thing too.

  • Garrett

We needed Bismack Biyombo but the BETcats stole him from under our noses. Like TAD said, I’d want any big. I don’t care who it is. The roster needs more balance and that will straighten out a lot of the problems, even if the talent isn’t quite there.

Rip was already on his way out. I really want the vets from 2004 to leave. It’s time for a new direction, so they need to clear out Tayshaun and Rip to make it complete.

The Pistons need to look at the bigs Utah has. They are looking to get rid of one now that they have Enes Kanter. And they could use Rip and/or Prince. Maybe they can work a sign and trade with Prince to get Kaman from the Clippers or Biedrins from the Warriors.

  • slamfan4life

    Rip 2 Chi!

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Hamilton and Wallace for Biedrins and Udoh? Assuming Big Ben doesn’t retire.

  • el_larsen

please joe d clean the room !
    exit rip ,AND stuckey
keep bynumite ,and finally free ben gordon

  • Jodi Jezz

Trade Rip and do a sign and trade for Prince. Bring in a good center to play beside Monroe and we will be in the playoffs next year. Why in the world would you trade Gordon? People say dumb things these days!!
