Denver Nuggets Working Hard to Re-Sign Nene

The brass in the Mile High City continues to sound positive about their chances of retaining Nene, who will likely become an unrestricted free agent this summer. From the Denver Post: “Nuggets executives Josh Kroenke and Masai Ujiri, however, reported good news on that front, saying they’ve had good meetings and positive feedback from the Brazilian big man since the end of the season. ‘We’ve been having good talks,’ Ujiri said late Thursday night after all of the draft day picks and trades were made. ‘We’re making good progress, I think. And I think Nene is excited. We’ve met a few times with him and a few times with his agent.’ Nene averaged career highs in points (14.5) and field-goal percentage (.615) last season, and was near career highs in free-throw percentage (.711) and rebounding (7.6). There was a component of appreciation Nene initially said was missing, and that it was as important as dollars and cents. Since then, the Nuggets have bent over backward showing him the love. ‘It’s been great,’ Kroenke said. ‘We had one meeting with Nene, Masai and I did together. Masai has met with his people several times. I’ve had on-going dialogue with his agent. We’re going to continue dialogue into next week. I can’t comment any further at this point in time, but Nene is a player that we want to have here for a long time. He’s been a backbone of ours for the last several years, and he’s a big part of our future.’ Nene is currently in Brazil. He is expected to be in Denver sometime next week.”

If there is a season, I wouldn’t be surprised if he signs with Miami…

I would love to have him in Miami. I think he’d be the perfect complement for us, over say, Dalembert. But, of course Denver can and will offer him more $$. The question for him is whether he wants to be in Miami (a huge Brazilian population, closer to home, and no state tax) and all the scrutiny this team absorbs.

if lebron is gonna grab all the boards then its a good move im just thinking their is gonna b quite a bit of laziness on the boards between hhim and bosh sometimes. would be a great offense though post ups jumpers hard rolls on screens pick and roll defense. nice team, maybe he can teach lebron how to hit a 17 foot pullup and miami will then win a title

I’ve love for him to become the newest piece of the Megazord but I can’t see him taking that pay cut.

Megazord!! i like it. I don’t know if he is gonna take a pay cut but it will be a huge advantage for him to be in Miami. and for the heat fans as well

If he would go to the Heat it wouldn’t be fair.

You know Heat fans are desperate when they daydream about every solid center or point guard coming to Miami! The Nuggets won’t let him go easily!

  • O

The Knicks drafted him and traded him for who again?!?!?!

  • LA Huey

@Joseph, like fans of other teams don’t daydream about plugging the holes on their teams with quality players? Laker fans think of every PG they think is available, Bulls fans do that about SGs, Blazer fans do that about the Suns training staff, and so on…

I don’t care about point guards, I’m ok with Rio and this Norris Cole rook. I want a big! Nene has said that he would like to play for Miami, get him in a room with Riles and you never know what might happen. He’s the greatest salesman in the league.

Nene, sign with Houston. You know you want to.

@Joseph V – It’s not really day-dreaming when the guy said he would talk less money to go somewhere like Miami. Now, him actually going there is still a stretch at this point. I don’t think Heat fans as a whole are desperate, after all we made the finals in the first year of the big three era…

  • Overtime

    LOL @ LA huey.
Nene’s career high in boards is near 7.6?
Still, Miami would really kill with this guy.

Any chance Miami can get Nene?
