Dwight Howard Not Looking to Sign 2-Year Extension With Orlando Magic

Dwight Howard shot down a media report that he was negotiating a short extension with the Magic, but continues to insist that Orlando is where he wants to stay (with the caveat that everything has to go right next season.) From the Sentinel: “There’s no truth to that,’ Howard told reporters in Birmingham, Ala., where he spent part of the day working with Habitat for Humanity to help rebuild homes damaged by late April’s deadly tornados. ‘The biggest thing right now is everybody understands I have one more year left. I’m keeping my options open, but there’s no other place I’d rather be than Orlando. I want them to understand that. But, at the same time, I do want to win, make sure everything is in line — our team, just everything from top to bottom — and everybody is reaching for a championship. It can’t be me and a couple other guys. It’s gotta be the whole team [and] everybody on the staff. It’s the same goal: the championship attitude. As of right now, I don’t plan to be anywhere else besides Orlando.’ David ‘Ping’ Pingalore, the sports director of the Orlando station WKMG, reported Monday night that an extension was ‘all but signed by’ the All-NBA First Team center.”

please dont let this be “the decision” all over again. Lol i rather have him do it like melo did.

  • Oh Nose

LOL…saw this coming..this is a hybrid between “the decision” and melo. This makes everything interesting now

this would be alot easier choice for dwight if a bunch of clowns would not be teaming up because they can’t lead their own teams, even complaining about them.. star players should spend their time honing their game and making their teams better and then man-up and lead a team to glory… props to him for wanting to lead and not follow, so hopefully he gets the tools he needs to suceed because he is a great player.

What ever you do don’t go join up with a bunch of superstars in a big market. That has been done before and then you would be a follower. I say sign a 2 year extension with Orlando and if they don’t get you help well then leave. It will be hard to get help w/ Arenas’ big contract tho.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Orlando will deal him early if they can’t get Dwight to re-sign. Book it.

Lol remember when y’all thought the Denver Nuggets would be the next Detroit Pistons. Get outta here wit that ish son.

  • AQWORD

If the media leaches chose for this to be the decision so it will be . It has nothing to do with the player.

i think he still wants to stay. but by not outright signing contracts and declaring he will stay, puts pressure on management to continue to try an improve there team. i think its a good strategy, u dont want management to feel so comfortable that they wont be worried , and wont work hard

To the Knioks! Make it happen, Walsh… wait he just got fired. Make it happen, Isiah!

Dwight seems like he’s angling to leave, but is putting it back on Orlando management so he won’t look like a d!ck. He’s saying there’s nowhere else he wants to be, but it’s all about how the Magic do next season. Since they’re a 2-round team at best, and they’re choked with bad contracts, they’re not going to improve. Which gives Dwight his ‘out’.

@MikeC: That’s exactly what Dwight is doing! He’s creating an excuse to justify him leaving Orlando. If management is smart, they will trade Dwight or run the risk of him walking away and getting nothing in return. Remember what Shaq did to you, Orlando? Dwight is going to do the same thing if you don’t trade him!

@marc: There was a big difference between LeBron and Melo. LeBron was a free agent and he could pick and choose whichever team he wanted to play for…Melo was in the last year of his contract, so his options were limited. Also, Melo had to inform management which team he wanted to be traded to and agree to the trade.

Dwight to NY is not going to happen…I know Knicks and Nets fans don’t want to hear that. PAY ATTENTION TO THE SUBTLE SIGNS…remember LeBron? He talked about how the number 23 should be retired and that he was switching his number to 6. What was unusual about his statement was that it was made in the middle of the season. Miami retired the number 23 in honor of MJ, so LeBron would not have been able to wear number 23 anyway. It’s been leaked to the media that Dwight doesn’t like cold weather, he prefers warmer weather…it was also mentioned that Dwight wants to get more involved in acting…all signs are pointing to the Lakers folks!

Dwight & turkoglu for Bynum and Lamar. Something along those lines is basically a done deal as far as i’m concerned.
