Dwight Howard Thinks Orlando Didn’t Use Gilbert Arenas Properly

Dwight Howard likes the job head coach Stan Van Gundy did last season, except when it comes to Gilbert Arenas’ role on the team. From the Orlando Sentinel: “As Dwight Howard continues his promotional tour across Europe, he’s been very candid while answering questions from international reporters. At an adidas event in Madrid, Spain, Howard criticized Stan Van Gundy’s handling of Gilbert Arenas and said he should have a role in the team’s personnel decisions. He also talked more about everyone in the organization getting on the same page … Howard on Arenas, who struggled mightily with the Magic while primarily being used as Jameer Nelson’s backup: ‘I don’t think our coach used him the right way, but I think he can do a lot of great things for our team. He promised me this summer he was going to get himself better, physically and mentally, so he can come back and have an awesome year. … I just felt like he didn’t get the opportunity to play his style but also play with me. I think he needed to. I think he got a couple of opportunities to do it in the playoffs, but it was kind of too late. So I think he will be great for us.’ Howard, who has said in the past that it’s not his job to shake up the roster, on his role in personnel decisions: ‘I should be involved. For seven hard years I’ve done everything I could in Orlando for us to win a championship and I think I deserve an opportunity to help make decisions as far as the future.’”

When you own a team you make decisions
When you manage a team you make decisions
When you coach a team then you make decisions

You play then play and shut the ef up concentrate on getting a jump shot and improving you game let those in the above roles take care of the rest.

Here’s hoping Howard’s ego doesn’t get the best of him and turn him into another “hated” NBA player. Right, LeChoke?

Trout – if guys on a roster can say “I want this guy on my team”, and it actually happens, then they have what they want, with no excuses otherwise. If you improve the team by making the players happy with their personnel situation, that’s a good thing, no?
(By that, I don’t mean Dwight saying “I want CP3″ and the Magic trading every single player on the roster for him, I mean in a realistic sense).

…but I think he’s right. Hope to see a revitalized Agent Zero after the (effin’)lockout.

Stan really does need to tweak his gameplan for next season…

@airs yeah I agree. He shot himself with that gun (metaphorically) but he’s a talented player. SVG just didn’t help him.

Yep SVG did a horrible job with the team he had. Definitely don’t like that “I should be involved in personnel decisions” attitude though, unless he guarantees he’s staying in Orlando.

This was a rehab year for Gilbert Arenas. He’ll bounce back next season.

is it me or did he lose a ton of weight this season?

  • nbasfan

Dwight don’t need to improve his jumpshot, he just need to be even more aggressive and use he body to bump more. As much as he did last year, he could of done better. If he could did what Shaq does, he will be really dominant and score in bunches.

id start gil over jameer think he adds more and makes the magic a tougher team(at the very least offensively).
