Golden State Warriors GM Says Monta Ellis Not Being Traded

Warriors GM Larry Riley, in a conversation with SI, tries to put the Monta Ellis trade rumors to bed:  ”On reports that the team is in talks to trade Monta Ellis: ‘We are not shopping Monta Ellis. It is business as usual here. I think you have to look at what just happened in the Finals — it seemed like Dallas played pretty small guards throughout that series with Miami and did a pretty good job of it. Our problem is not the small backcourt [of Ellis and Stephen Curry]. Our problem is defense.’ … More on the Ellis/Curry dynamic: ‘We can move forward with this team. Obviously it would be a nice thing if we could acquire a point guard who was 6-foot-4 to come off the bench, or a 2-guard who was 6-5 and could guard point guards — someone off the bench who is a bit longer. But that backcourt in Dallas was not long either. But when I mention Dallas, you have to give Jason Kidd credit, too — he’s a great defender. But they still had times when they had both J.J. Barea and Jason Terry on the floor.’”

Golden State Warriors GM, needs to understand, Ellis plays no defense, shoots the team out of games, and looks off Curry to much in games. BOOK IT!!

    ^^^^ this

they also dont have tyson chandler shawn marion or dallas’ defensive scheme and david lee is 6’7/6’8

The Seed, did you watch any GS games this year? scoring 24 points a game on 45% and 36% from 3 shooting is not “shooting your team out of games”. Defensively he’s not the greatest, but that has as much to do with the Warriors system than it does Ellis.

Monta was the sole reason this season they were in games and even had a couple of game winners. What has Curry done that people love him so much is beyond me?

I watched alot of GS games and Monta kept playing like he didn’t care about the team concept. Monta can score, but really will GS go anywhere with a poor man’s AI trying to lead them. NO!!. Keep Curry and trade Monta. Monta took bad shots during games. If he looked to pass more, you would have added his assist numbers. Monta in the games I watched tried to hard to score and doesn’t understand team concept and thats why he was left off of All Star team. BOOK IT!

It’s one thing to be a Curry fan and another to like Curry as a player and first and foremost as a Warrior fan.

Most of these nut Curry fans have been non-stop on trading Monta for two years now. That he had his greatest year ever and Curry took a step back by not advancing in his second year, makes no difference to these clones.

They even discuss draft picks in terms of taking shots away from Curry.

Monta gone and it’s more shots for Curry. The arguments they give are irrelevant, they all follow the same path to what will mean more glory for Curry.

Now Curry’s a nice young player with a great outside shot. Lots and lots of weaknesses as a point guard he needs to overcome before even being discussed with the better points in the league. By far the poorest defender of the starters.

Monta on the other hand is our best player and the best one we’ve had since Cohan’s early years and the demise of the Warriors.

It’s a sick Love, real Love as Matt Steinmetz at CSN Bay Area wrote.

How about some Warriors first perspective. Riley, Lacob, Myers and Jackson have all spoken to the Monta thing.

HOw about some real Warrior fans. Anyone know of a blog for them, not just Curry fans?

If Monta’s so non team oriented how come he has the most assists for a shooting guard in the league? Haven’t you watched the games? He regularly drives with a couple of guys on his tail and dishes it off beautifully? Curry has been the beneficiary of a number of these, and the BIGs get them nearly every game. This Love Curry-Hate Monta stuff is out of hand. Perhaps it’s time to make the teenagers or teenager mentality guys identify themselves at the beginning of their posts.

Top 10 scorers two years in a row. Top three in steals, two years in a row. Top 3 assists by a two guard, two years in a row. Top 4 in drawing charges by a two guard, two years in a row. Best driver/finisher around.

Get-a-life! Or must we trade Curry to get back to team first basketball discussions?

The Seed you dont understand that curry couldnt do anything for the warriors monta does monta scores and gets steals curry stands there monta works harder than anybody else on the team he plays 40 minutes a game what has curry done other than be completely over-rated i want monta to be traded to the sixers him and lou williams would dominate
Also warriors dont even have a concept

Monta is a great player in my opinion he is twice as good as curry.
p.s whats has curry done to makes everybody want him instead of Ellis????

  • add

really hope we dont trade dre for kaman

  • Gaz

THE SEED, more like THE GAYBO

  • Archer

curry has weak ankles and he needs to put on some more weight, he’s too damn skinny……if they need to trade someone then i say trade curry…..

  • buddah

Curry is a far more efficient player than Ellis. The fact that Ellis takes more shots than Curry doesn’t make him better. Also, let’s not forget the numbers that Curry put up when Monta has been hurt.

sigh, warrior fans, and guys that pretend they watch the warriors. for some reason we ALWAYS need a scapegoat. monta does not shoot the team out. the offense was extremely stagnant under keith smart.
