Monta Ellis Trade Rumors Intensifying

The chatter regarding Monta Ellis’ future with the Warriors (or lack thereof) has gone from purely speculative, to almost downright definitive. Numerous teams are said to be interested in Monta’s services: “The Warriors trading high-scoring guard Monta Ellis seems all but inevitable, though team sources warned against that assessment. The organizational debate over whether Ellis can play with similarly diminutive guard Stephen Curry has given way to the question of which of the backcourt players to deal this summer. Now, Ellis’ representatives have joined the Warriors in an attempt to find a mutually beneficial destination, league sources said Thursday. Warriors officials said they are not shopping Ellis and a trade is a ‘long way off,’ but a CBS report had sources saying an Ellis-for-Andre Iguodala deal with Philadelphia is a 50-50 venture. The Golden State-Philadelphia trade has been rumored for the better part of two years, and ESPN reported that talks were renewed Monday. Atlanta, Chicago, Memphis, Orlando, Portland and the Lakers also have shown interest in Ellis, league sources told The Chronicle. Warriors general manager Larry Riley has said only, ‘We are doing business as usual and will explore possibilities relating to getting the team better.’ Per team policy, he won’t comment on specific trades.”

  • Oh Nose

I like Ellis’ game but don’t bring him to Chicago! It is too hard to depend on separate offensive/defensive line ups…ugh

  • Anthony

Ellis is good in orlando… philly, GS and maybe chicago…… Ellis just has to play d, He has all the althleticsm to do it……

  • add

portland would make the most sense

  • http://nba.com EJ

    New AI for Philly.

  • JMart42

Good job Bulls, we need scoring at the 2 thats why it would make sense to get Ellis plus he averages 2 steals a games so he can play a little D, the reason y we lost to Miami is cause we couldnt put points on the board but Ellis can do that…

  • STAYWEIRD38

NAHHH GO TO THE BULLS please for once can something go my way in the nba… i wanted melo to stay a NUGGET.. DIDNT HAPPEN I WANTED MELO TO GO TO THE BULLS DIDNT HAPPEN it sucks if melo would of gone to the bulls theyd be in the finals right now owning the mavs

If Monta goes to the Bulls, Bulls fans will be complaining about the same sh*t as when Ben Gordon was there.
Too short, no defense, etc. etc.
We need a taller 2-guard that can score AND defend.

  • JMart42

Rigo your wrong, people constantly complain about Bogans’ inabilities on the offensive side so Bulls fans would be down to have Monta Ellis starting at the 2… He may be only 6’3 but he brings alot more to the table then what BG did…

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

    Sigh.
Y’all act like the Bulls can just scoop up Monta and call it a day.
    No.
OK, to get Monta the Bulls would have to part with, mostly likely Noah. And perhaps even Omer Asik or Taj Gibson.
The Warriors won’t want Boozer, they have Lee. And they like Wright so they won’t want Deng.
So if Noah goes, who becomes the starting center? Asik? I’m a big fan of his, but he’s not ready to be a full-time starter. And if he goes too?
So will the Bulls be center-less?
And the team’s success lies so much on the defensive side. I’m not a big fan of Bogans’ offense but his defense is usually on point.
A backcourt of Rose and Ellis would be a defensive liability, especially if Noah won’t be around to erase their mistakes.
Plus, the Bulls essentially become the Warriors if they get Ellis. A team with two high-scoring, offensively talented and defensively challenged 6’3” guards.
Sorry, I just don’t like it.

  • JMart42

Smh… U have no idea what ur talking about dude.

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

    Please explain.
Go on. I laid out why I think it’s a bad idea, you wanna let me in on why it would be a good idea?
Other than “Bulls need more scoring”.
Or you just gonna keep shaking your head telling me “U have no idea what ur talking about dude”.
F*CK! I cannot WAIT for school to start again!

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

And Monta averaging two steals a gamn doesn’t mean he’s a good defender.
    Are you f*cking kidding me?
Even Carlos Boozer gets nearly a steal a game, so you gonna tell me he’s on his way to making the All-Defensive team now?
    You’re not getting it.
    The Bulls need scoring.
    That’s a weakness.
They need to get it WITHOUT sacrificing one of their strengths.
You don’t fix a part of your team without blowing up another part.
Why am I even wasting my time?

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

    *while blowing up, not without

  • JMart42

Well I guess my post was too long but I explained why your wrong but I won’t waste my time…

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

    How convenient

  • Jose

i think thibs can convince ellis to play D. . . and Chi-Town definitely would have faired better with ellis slashing to the rim or at least his creating his own jumpo shots

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

Thibs couldn’t convince Boozer and Korver to play D tho.
And Ellis is a great player, great scorer, but I just don’t like what the Bulls would have to give up for him.
The defense would take a hit, the depth would be lost. The Bulls would take a step back.

  • MirChilly

The Bulls (my fav team) doesn’t have to give up noah. We can trade omar or tj and either brewer or bogans plus some picks. We can always pick up another wing defender and a hustle big man. I would rather trade omar than tj tho. But getting Monta will be a great move. Remember, monta is a good defender it was curry who was horrible. Monta played the best wing player and did well. He had no post or wing help. He will get that in chicago

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

@MirChilly – Monta Ellis is owed $11 million next year.
If we dealt, let’s say, Omer and Brewer, their contracts add up to about $6.5 million for next year. So where would the other $4.5 million come from?
Plus other teams are offering players like Andre Igoudala and Chris Kaman, these guys are/were all-stars and Olympians. Why would the Warriors turn that down to get Brewer and Taj Gibson?
I’m telling you, it would most likely have to be Noah, he’s due to make $10 million next year.
And that post help would suffer without Noah.
I know we need scoring, but don’t you think losing an integral part of the team would be too high a price?

  • davidR

rigo, monta is very capable defender. there’s a reason he’s asked to guard durant and kobe every time the warriors face the lakers and thunder.
but, i’ll agree with you that it’s not in chicago’s interest to take him because they’d have to lose noah or asik

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

davidR – Soon as I get home, I’ll try to catch some footage of Monta in game action. I may be wrong about his defense. I can only go off of what I’ve seen of him when he’s played the Bulls this season.

  • http://Slamonline.com Datkid

Rigo- your not wrong these people are insane.. Monta Ellis is at BEST a mediocre defender. At worst he’s god-awful. Also that jmart dude is a fool.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

The Warriors will likely ask for Noah, not only because the salaries match up quite well, but also because they desperately need a center like him to anchor their defense. Noah’s passing and rebounding would be perfect for their up-tempo offense and his presence in the middle alone would immediately change their defense.

  • JMart42

Datkid your D riding Rigo, Rigo doesn’t understand that the Bulls can give up Deng, Gibson, and one of our first round picks this year…

  • Daio

Lmao, Jmart. Give up Deng and Gibson?

    Smh.

  • MirChilly

@Rigo… omer is a great option. Teams love young bigs especially those who are active defensively. We can add 3 mil plus maybe sign omer to a longer deal to make the numbers match. Under mark jackson they will be a defensive team so getting brewer and omer plus cap relief is huge for them. That’s why I believe it will be good for them

  • http://1vo2ink 1vo2ink

Why all the trade talk for the bulls offensive upgrade?
Just draft a scoring SG or sign a scoring free agent and keep the rest of the team together that will take the bulls to finals next year.

  • Brahsef

I honestly think Monta could be a fine defender but he’s played in the Warriors system which emphasizes playing the passing lanes and breaking as much as possible. I mean having a backcourt of two 6’3 players will always be a liability due to height, but for his size I think Monta would be good enough at defending to be suitable. As long as he doesn’t have to guard someone 6’6 or bigger.

And boy can score. Flat out. He was much more efficient this season as well shooting at a much better clip.

  • Indy G

@Rigo Unlike Boozer and korver, monta does have the athleticism to become a better defender under thibs IMO

  • http://Slamonline.com Datkid

Jmart stfu…your dumb as f*ck.. Give up deng or gibson? Lmfaooo

  • http://Slamonline.com Datkid

Jmart stfu you clearly don’t know what your talking about? And Lmfaooooo why would you give up deng or Gibson?? GTFOH

  • IDOT

the Bulls don’t need two 6’3 guards in the backcourt and then they would be playing with an undersize backcourt and plus the Warriors want the tube and kitchen sink for Ellis. Ellis needs to go a contending team and be a 6th man. Ellis needs to be a team with a big PG thats at 6’5. NBA backcourts are bigger and versatile now.

  • mannyec0409

My two teams are the Chicago Bulls and the Orlando Magic. Although it would be great for the bulls to get another legit scorer, its not in their best interest to trade away guys who have helped them become the best D in the league. The Warriors are obviously looking to upgrade their defense and that is why they are trying to part ways with Ellis or Curry. Both of them are just average defenders. Iguodala would make more sense because he’s a pretty good defender.

It would be a good fit for Orlando but then again, who would they want in a trade? I don’t see it happening… Jameer, Ellis and D12 on the same team doesn’t sound too bad though.

  • Karley

@Rigo man I feel ya. All them others aren’t thinking bra. No kidding, I mean why would Chicago take Ellis and give up major talent. Yeah they need a few changes but not drastic changes.. Be real gentlemen Rigo has said it all.. If they were to get Ellis Chicago would loss more talent than they get..Portland would be reasonable will Roy out of his prime.. And maybe Orlando ..
    Peace Gents.

  • mugiwara

    Jmart= fail.

  • AJM

The only trade I see justifiable for the Bulls and working for GSW is Deng and Brewer with the two first round draft picks for Ellis and Wright. It gives them a strong small forward with the defensive and strong shooting guard they need. Plus, the draft picks allow them to chase or trade up to find a gritty Taj or Omer like power forward/centre, which they are in desperate need of and which is also not in desperate shortness. Bulls front office have already subjected their picks to finding it hard to crack rotation, so they are unneccessary for the team in the short-term, which is where most Bulls teams want the team to focus, ‘win now’ rather than waiting and waiting. Bulls will still have cap space and could chase another shooting guard. In my opinion J-Rich would fit perfect for the right price. Now, that would have Noah, Boozer, Wright (who could solidify his D and hit more of those open looks that would be created as they were for Deng), J-Rich and Rose. With Monta the 6th man, playing a Terry for Dallas role, with Korver and Butler rotating across Small forward. Hold Bogans for his veteran and locker room chemisty and Thomas. And we suddenly have a back court depth to match our front court, all inside the cap.

Rigo Gonzalez ay yo check me out check me out. i think its time for some change. the starting line up should be d rose, monte ellis, lou deng, kenyon martin, and noah. you make it happen by trading taj gibson, cj watson which is a pass first gaurd, and ronnie brewer which is a hell of a defender an get monte ellis. then you get kmart. the bech should look like jamal crawford, we trade asik for arron afflalo, rasull butler, we go snag out david west who is unrestricted, and kurt thomas. championship team. just go easy on me
