Kobe Bryant and Mike Brown Met, Are Cool

With speculation flying around that Kobe was none too happy with the Lakers’ hiring of Mike Brown, the L.A. Times is reporting that the two met and established a solid relationship: “Just when you thought it was time to sell your courtside seats and buy a beach home … Peace in our time in Lakerdom? Despite Kobe Bryant’s silence, people close to both sides say Coach Mike Brown has won over his new star in two face-to-face meetings. Their first was May 31 at Bryant’s home in Newport Beach, on Brown’s way to his news conference in downtown Los Angeles … more or less. Apparently, the meeting went well. The second was 10 days later at the El Segundo practice facility, where they went through plays on the court. So why hasn’t anyone bothered to mention it? Brown did mention it, which, in the absence of a single peep from Bryant, didn’t settle the issue. So why is Bryant still maintaining his silence, allowing the perception that he’s unhappy to stand? Unhappy at having been left out of the loop on the hiring, he’s letting his silence speak for him, as he did in after his days or rage in 2007, leaving the Lakers to spend three months wondering if he would report for training camp until he showed up that morning. Bryant signaled his skepticism when Brown’s hiring was announced May 25, exchanging texts with him but declining to talk on the phone.”

    Dang I thought Kobe would retire.. Jk. But of course he is going to like his coach. Too bad if he doesn’t.

    Kobe’s good. He is emulating MJ by having anything and everything be a dramatic reality show in the making. He owns squat so whoever the Lakes chose he was gonna be good with. He knew there was no other Phil Jackson out there. BB Shaw? Familiarity breeds contempt so it wouldn’t have worked.

    i wonder how thats going to go down…

    Bryant is maintaining his silence because thats the way he likes it and it’s very wise from him, leaving the media speculating and making their stupid stories while he gets to work. He and Brown are the only ones who know how things are. It’s his way of saying: “you idiots know nothing but write what you want, I don’t give a f*ck”

    Kobe Bryant and Mike Brown Met, Are Cool as long as Coach Brown can help the Lakers win on the defensive end. BOOK IT!!

    I mean, just cause hes not gonna tell Brown to f*ck off doesn’t mean he’s unhappy. He doesn’t have beef with Brown and I’m sure him and Brown are gonna work to have a great winning season… but he’s still pissed that his boy wasn’t selected as head coach, and that he wasn’t even consulted. Just cause he and Mike Brown are cool, it CERTAINLY doesn’t mean he’s happy.

    lakers made a mistake, they should have went to the dodgers and pulled don mattingly away from baseball and a career as a coach in basketball!!!

    @EtheKnickFan – how is NOT talking to the media making everything a reality show?! maybe he just doesn’t care if you know what he thinks..Kobe will play until he doesn’t get “the man” sized pay checks.

    Hey SLAM, how about splashing out and hiring a proof reader??

  • Sergio

    @tomtom – proof reader, really?

    First, a proof reader is called the editor. Now…they definitely should’ve consulted him.

    It’s all very well saying that they’re cool right now, but let’s just wait and see when Brown is actually coaching. Seems a bit early to say they have a good relationship when they haven’t even worked together yet.
