Monta Ellis on His Way Out of GS?

by Sam Riches / @sam_riches

Monta Ellis is no stranger to trade rumors. The 6-3 guard has been the focus of trade talk for the majority of his six year career.

The latest rumor, in a scenario that seems more likely to have been cooked up by an overzealous fan using the ESPN trade machine than to be a legitimate possibility, has Ellis heading to Orlando for Dwight Howard.

But it now appears Ellis has grown tired of hearing the rumors and is asking for a ticket out of the Bay Area.

From Peter Vecsey and The New York Post:

“A few days ago, it appeared as if the Warriors had decided to keep Ellis despite some very attractive propositions. However, late yesterday, they were back to giving serious thought to moving him if the pitch blew them away.

Word has it Ellis’ agent, Jeff Fried, who did not return my call, informed management his client wants to be dealt.”

Mark Jackson, the Warriors newly appointed head coach has made his position clear—stating he wants Ellis to remain on the team while also propositioning that he is the third best shooting guard in the League.

Ellis is due $22 million over the next two seasons, with a player option for the year after that. With six days remaining before the NBA labor agreement expires, Golden State is going to have to act fast if they hope to find a taker.

To be honest, it’s not that farfetched for him to be 3rd best shooting guard playing today. If not top 3 then definitely top 5.

  • IDOT

He needs to be on a team with a big PG thats 6’5 or a team that hasa SG that can handle PG duties. If only he could grow 2 more inches.

the bulls yo or the nuggets!

i hope he dont get traded

  • Jose

If you stop and think about it , Ellis is a top 5 SG. . Maybe 4th. Too bad Brandon Roy’s knees havent held up as well

Monta is a top 3 SG talent-wise, but I’m not sure where his head is at. Dude started out as an FG efficiency monster and has morphed into an absolute blackhole. Can defend bigger guards, but prefers to gamble constantly… Can get to the rim anytime but settles for a TON of long twos…

I’d bet teams are more worried by his personalty than his contract.

  • david

good trade proposal monta, andris, and the 2012 2nd round pick to pheonix for lopez, v. carter(expiring contract), dudley, and the 2012 1st round pick

Still not feeling him on the Bulls.

  • davidR

Ciolk, I think his offensive game suffered a bit when he got forced to be the main scoring option (not that its bad. 20+ on 45%). Also, keith smart hardly had a great offense. A lot of it was give the ball to monta and hope for the best. He also had to play tons of minutes cuz there is no guard depth off the bench (most minutes in the league). Hes asked to be the offense, and to defend the other teams best perimeter player. could explain why he settles for jumpers. I really hope he doesn’t get traded. I think he can flourish under mark jackson

    Good trade, nbk.

The Bulls should go after JR Smith, taller, more explosive, can get to the rim. A little crazy but they can live w/ that.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Thanks Teddy fits needs for both teams, and makes room for youngins (who need it).

  • dahon

no to bulls. he plays like ben gordon. bulls need crawford\jr smith type player.

  • bradley

golden state needs to keep monta and trade curry. If they dont get Dwight once again they will make another terrible choice, this franchise is a JOKE

  • deezy

  • http://www.slamonline.com Amare Excuses

How about monta Ellis (24 years old)for Kobe Bryant(32years old)

  • http://www.myjizztube.com jizz1

The Warriors should trade Ellis and Biedrins to the Phoenix Suns for Nash, Barbosa, and Lopez.

  • Del

I guarantee you all Bulls when end of signing Jason Richardson.

  • Landry_legend

@jizz Barbosa plays for the Raptors….

  • T-Money

Monta is not the problem, I don’t understand why he’s always the scapegoat. He gave you 24-4-6 last year with very decent percentages across the board. I don’t see him as selfish and he’s actually a decent 1vs1 defender, I’ve seen him defend Kobe and D-Wade adequately. I mean, the Mavs just won it all with Kidd, Terry and Barea playing most of the backcourt minutes. They need to give a chance to the Ellis/Steph backcourt. However, they need to start a more rugged 3. Not another shooter like Wright.

I love this guy.You can argue about his efficiency or his attitude, but he entertains when he is on the court. His dribbles and especially his acrobatic lay-ups are a thing of beauty.

  • http://slamonline.com Flint tha Hustla

Wherever he goes, he’s gonna be a force to be reckoned with.

  • http://basketballjunction.blogspot.com/ Joseph V

This guy is a beast. If Monta can’t get Dwight to stay in Orlando, nothing can.

  • brandon
