Warriors Offer Monta Ellis for Dwight Howard

by Ryne Nelson

Two of the NBA’s hottest trade commodities have reached a nexus in this latest trade rumor.

Although the Orlando Magic will likely veto a Monta Ellis, Ekpe Udoh and Andris Biedrins package for Dwight Howard, this marks the beginning of an interesting year ahead of rumors and speculation.

DraftExpress reports this offer not long after Howard said that he won’t sign an extension and will become a free agent. So this is surely the first of many, many trade offers.

Monta is the Warriors‘ best commodity, and despite rumors of the franchise not wanting to trade Ellis, Golden State seems eager to land a big guy.

Unfortunately, fans won’t get to watch a Steph/Supa duo anytime soon—very few teams are eager to deal their dominating big for a guard in need of fine tuning and better mentorship/coaching.

    This really isn’t that bad of a deal. You always offer as low of a reasonable trade that you can. They aren’t going to offer Udoh for Howard straight up because that’s unreasonable. This trade will obviously be vetoed by the Magic but they might offer a counter trade.. something like Dwight, Hedo for Monta, Wright, Udoh, Lee, 2 first rounders, 2nd rounder, cash considerations (Not sure if salaries match but if not the Warriors throw in Vladimir Radmonovic or Andris Biedrins)

    Lamo,@ shem what the hell you talking bout, this is horrible, im not as down on monta as many that I know but come on. the warriors have to come off Curry and monta along with at least two 1st round picks and cash if possible and quite possibly another player and that still does not equal the value the magic have just given up.

  • Penny

    3 way trade
    Miami gets; Lee, Wright, and Udoh
    Orlando gets: Bosh and Monta
    Warriors get; DHoward

  • imawesome

    i wish dwight could come 2 da celtics… oneals good, but not good enough.

  • Shem

    @SlickRic The Magic are clearly looking for a combo – guard that can score. Ellis is one of the best scoring guards in the league. They get David Lee to fill up that PF slot. Bass as a 6th man instead of a starter. They also get Biedrins to be a defensive center and future picks for potential. Sounds good to me. Utah did it and people are starting to realize you have to build like OKC to win now.

    Dwight For Noah, Boozer, and an extra maybe or draft picks?
    Dwight for LeBron?
    Dwight for Pau/ and Bynum?
    Dwight for Roy Hibbert, Paul George/Granger , and draft Picks?
    Dwight For Ellis, Udoh, Biendris ?

    Dwight for a sandwich!

    @slick rick
    so u saying its goona take more than half of a team’s roster to get dwight and hedo’s fat-ass contract? u think J.west wud be that desperate? and havent u guys considered if dwight wud even want to go to the warrios when he clearly emphasized he wanted to be in championship contending team. When exactly did u guys remember golden state in conversations to contend for the chip…in the ’70′s??

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

    @gigolo, because monta and two guys who are average at best aint gonna cut it, and west should be that desperate the warriors haven’t had consecutive winning seasons sense like bird and magic were playing. jerry west might end up selling ellis to the lakers for a bag of chips anyway, i’ve heard they been in discussions.

  • giogolo

    @slick ric

    i still think it wud be all up to d12 to choose his team and im beting on him, looking to get cp3 or dwil to team up in Orl first. even if he just got eieht of em on the 1st yr. after FA he’d be good with it and jsut wait for few more pieces. Either that or he’s gonna team up with them elsewhere.

    i think its a basic consensus that he needs those type-caliber pgs. to compete with Miami and NY. I wudnt be surprised if he takes less money to achieve that goal since he alreay said he’s going FA. I think he’s more vocal in his goal to get a chip and clearly wants it then Lebron.

    Lerbon is not a good fit with a traditional inside-outside team,that Dwight,Bosh and Wade obviosuly fits in to.Im not saying it’d be Miami though but who knows. And my gut tells me that wth the new Cba,we’d be looking into more 3yr. guranteed contracts for our new superstars to team up with on different teams if unsucessful like this miami team.

    I wudlnt be surprised if dwade bolts for chi after their contract is up. He is getting older than LJ and its just sad bcoz it was actually Dwade who was the missing piece in Chi’s title hopes. He has shown that he is the type of player that cud blend in with D.rose and can be counted upon during the 4th then lebron.

    Shem’s 2:58 comment makes sense to me. orl. wud hate to lose d12 for nothing he’s clearly one of the few game changers around in the league. so anything’s possible. On d12′s perspective. im thinking he’s gonna help Orlando recruit Dwill to them. How the nets react to that, that’s gonna be the 1st trade option that you guys should be talking about.

    after that LA,Chi,and even Miami and NY are the most possible trade options IMO. I figure dwight gonna have a say on this. but of course he’s not throwing team names yet. If CP3 is strong on going to NY,look for dwight to be there.

    Either that or orl is gonna be one of the most active players in trades this lockout season. in which case if they wont consider dwight say on this..GSW could be seriously considered. Poor dwight.

  • giogolo

    Or i cud be wrong and D12 considers:

    1.Dallas:Turk,d12 for chandler,Peja,haywood,brewer,fifth guy plus pick/s and cash. I have faith in Cuban as a businessman. = )

    2. OKC. D12,Turk can just sign or be traded for ibaka/collison,Perkins or jsut the 3 alltogether while CP3 for westbrook,sefo/harden trade would go down to. It all leaves for a D howard-Durant-CP3 tandem your very own big 3 out west.

    Of course all these are just wishful thinking and im thinking the reams respective Gms wulndt sacrifice what they painstakingly built so far so im realstically looking more at miami and NY. probably nets if dwill signs on them. Dhowards going there too for Brooke,harris.. etc. up to 4 or 5 players basically.

  • chukaz

    There is no way the thunder would give up their whole roster yo get Howard and CP3. I’d say harden looks pretty untouchable right about now since he could be the 3rd best 2 guard in the league and they would never give up westbrook, who’s like 4 years away from Entering his prime for a 1 legged CP3 who might miss out on his

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

    Dwight Howard the best centre in the league (that no one can afford).

  • giogolo

    @chukaz
    I wuldntt quite bet on that to much with harden being the 3rd best SG right now. he’s still on his 2nd yr.? and a lot can happen 2-3 yrs. from now. See micheal redd for instance. before the injury he was main man on bucks and was on the Goldmedalist redeem team just 3 yrs. ago. I didn’t see CP3 slowing down after getting injury, esp just this playoffs,did you? Plus his game doesn’t rely too much on his athletic abiltiy despite him being athletic enough to come up with big numbers compared to westbrook, who when you take away his youth,what can you say more about his game as of now?//

    CP3 is way more effective in an offensive set than westbroook and can get the jop done as far as facilitating is concerned.besides if OKC needs a slasher which westbrook basically just is,they cud just find some1 to fill that role in the 2 spot. //
    If I see CP3 slowing down i might consider what you said.
    This years finals showed you what a 38 yr. old kidd can do and accomplished both with SHOOTING and DEFENSE against westbrook’s athelticsm and explossivness no less. How much more with CP3. Plus there won’t be any issues with Durant AND Howard not getting the ball and just punishing the other team.

  • giogolo

    The reason why D12′s stock is so up there that teams would need 4-5 players to trade up, Despite him being dominated by a healthy Yao in years past as well as Shaq is because:;//

    1.Superstar/allstar/Olympic team caliber players who may or may not be that freakishly atheltic can get you to the playoffs/finals in just their first year as of 2011: (relevance dating back to 2008) Bosh,wade,lerbon,Oozer,Cp3(serioulsy look at Hornest line up)Durant,westbrook etc. Chandler can be considered as he was a part of the pool.//

    2.Dallas showed you that with a bunch of shooters and quick guards. All a team needed was one tall good-class defender in the middle like Chandler to spelll the difference from a decade of not winning a chip despite 50+ win record all through-out. Howard’s d is game changing.

    NBA 2k11 update: I managed to trade Hedo Turkoglu and some random created rookie for Andrew Bogut and the Bucks next 1st round pick… anything could happen.

  • horsey

    Dwight should go anywhere for any reasonable trade, not resign, then return to Orlando. If they can get a few decent players and a legitimate star it would be worth the year out of the playoff race. Also, completely implausible.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

    Not sure where else to put this comment, but I’ve heard rumors that the Celtics might sign both T-Mac and Yao this summer. I kid you not. I don’t even know what my sources are, but wouldn’t that be crazy?

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/officerbarbrady what

    Joe Johnson + Al Horford for Dwight Howard + Gilbert Arenas

    scalabrine + 1st round draft pick for Howard

    D.Howard for a resigned M.Gasol and S.Battier
    ..Holy….

  • Pau Gasoft

    Expect a BYNUM for HOWARD swap, when it’s all said and done. By claiming Bynum “untouchable”, all Jim Buss did was raise the injury-prone kid’s Trade Value to an inflated amount.

  • http://www.naked.com/ RunNGun

    Everyone knows Dwight Howard is going to New York to team up with Amar’e Stoudemire, Chris Paul, and Carmelo Anthony. Make it happen, Isaiah…

  • http://slamonline.com AlbertBarr

    @Teddy: That would be crazy.

  • supreme_kickz

    Hope Howard goes to L.A., we need a big man.. Trade GaSoft, Shannon Brown, and Walton… !!

  • brutmax

    I know, you can laugh all you want about the proposed trade. But who would be laughing if DH doesn’t resign and walks away from Orlando leaving them with “0″.

    as a warriors fan this trade is quite laughable but it doesn’t surprise me if we do try our best to grab a “name” of some sorts. yea i get it the warriors are terrible but seriously those of you who say the warriors aren’t in a big enough media market for howard are pretty stupid. after NYC (knicks and nets), LA, & Chicago name me a media market that’s bigger seriously, atlanta (possibly with the turner companies), miami (yea right), dallas (nope), boston (nope). seriously name 1, the BAY AREA is like the 4th or 5th largest media market in the country & also a lot big time money can be made in the bay area 2k sports, EA SPORTS, Google & yahoo just to name a few.
