NBA Finals Game 6 Live Blog

Can the Mavericks seal the deal?

by Tzvi Twersky | @ttwersky

The clock won’t start ticking on Game 6 for another few hours, and currently all is quiet here in Miami at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Three days, a handful of narratives and many miles since the Mavericks took a 3-2 series advantage in Dallas—and Adam Figman and Maurice Bobb blogged their brains out—it’s time for the lid to be lifted off the simmering cauldron that is the NBA Finals.

Forget all the offcourt BS; none of that matters now. The only questions of any importance are: Will Dallas dismiss the Miami Heat tonight? Will they be able to drink Champagne that’s been on ice since 2006 tonight?  Or…will Miami respond from back-to-back losses with a season-extending win on their homecourt? Will Miami, once again, thwart Dallas’ attempt at defeating them in the Finals?

Somehow, someway, over the last few days the narrative around the series has strayed from basketball. Thankfully, tonight we refocus on what really matters: misses and makes, hustle and flow, wins and losses.

In a few minutes I’m gonna dip into the locker rooms and see what’s good for you. Be sure to check back before, during and after the game for complete live coverage of all of the excitement. I’m expecting y’all to do your usual thing in down in comments.

In the meanwhile…Get ya popcorn ready! This should be entertaining, if not fun.

7:10 p.m. For the better part of the past hour(s), I’ve been loitering around the court and locker rooms trying to get a feel for what each squad is looking like. To be honest, both are pretty loose, at least considering what’s on the line. Semi-interesting tidbits I heard/saw include:

-Coach Spo said that Dwyane Wade is “fine. When he gets out there, he’ll be ready to go.”

-Spo had this to say when asked about LeBron James’ play: “We are not going to overreact to all the noise out there. Part of responding in the Playoffs is responding to the highs and lows… We worked on some things obviously to make some adjustments yesterday. I think he’ll have an aggressive mindset coming in to tonight.”

-Coach Carlisle had some things to share as well. Mainly, Brendan Haywood is still a game-time decision. A few questions later, when asked if he showed the team his championship ring to psych them up, he said: “At this point if you need any external motivation, something is wrong.” He also stressed that efficiency will be key tonight for the Mavs, and that if they give up 100+ points again they will lose.

-Dallas’ locker room was relatively still. A lot of dudes were watching gametape, or at least pretending to. No one was really talking to the media, and no one from the media was really trying to disturb the players. While they looked semi-loose, I’m told that for this team they’re as focused as they get.

-Miami’s locker room had a lot more media in it and a lot more action. When I walked in LeBron James was getting dressed as, literally, dozens of reporters videotaped him changing. It was so absurd looking that at one point Bron just looked up, cracked a smile and said, “Y’all funny, man.” James also had Nipsey Hussle’s The Marathon blasting from his speakers. Safe to say, most people couldn’t have IDed the music if their life depended on it.

A minute or two later Dwyane Wade entered the locker room. He was chanting, “you know what time it is,” as LeBron and him locked eyes and shared a small laugh. As the media exited the room, Wade started singing along to 50 Cent’s “Many Men,” specifically the line, “I’m trying to be what I’m destined to be…”

-OK, I’m going to make my way to my seat in a minute. Almost that time!

7:27 p.m. Brendan Haywood is a go for the Mavs. Roddy Beaubois is inactive.

7:48 p.m. AAA is already loud and is definitely going to be full to capacity tonight. Let’s see what kind of 6th man this crowd can be.

7:56 p.m. Marc Anthony sings the national anthem. Unfortunately, no J-Lo sighting. On a more important tip, Mario Chalmers will be starting the game in Mike Bibby’s place tonight.

8:08 p.m. Finally. Game. Time. Who y’all got winning?

8:09 p.m. After two Mario C. misses, LeBron James scores the first basket of Game 6. He’s got a certain way about him early.

8:12 p.m. Early foul on Dwyane Wade. Otherwise, little defense to start the game. 7-6, Miami.

8:16 p.m. LeBron James with back-to-back pull-up jumpers; forces Mavs to call a timeout. 14-10, Miami. Great pace to the game thus far.

8:22 p.m. Chris Bosh hits a foul-line extended jumper off of a LeBron pass. James, Bosh and Wade have combined for 18 of Miami’s first 20 points.

8:25 p.m. Pondering a point a bit early, but could it be bad for James that he hit his first four shots? He has a tendency to fall in love with his jumper when he starts hot. Needs to keep attacking the rim.

8:29 p.m. Brian Cardinal with the looong J. Mark down where you were when he did that. (Just playing; real good dude.)

8:32 p.m. Drive, eurostep and bucket for Jet Terry. Even though they’re only up five (29-24), Mavs have ALL the momentum.

8:34 p.m. Deshawn Stevenson can’t feel his face! After Eddie House answers with a shot of his own, score is 32-27 headed into the second. Remember, Coach Carlisle said that if the game gets too high scoring that doesn’t play in their favor tonight.

8:40 p.m. James hasn’t scored in many minutes after a quick start. Heat NEED him if they’re going to send this thing to 7.

8:42 p.m. Back-to-back threes by Deshawn Stevenson. Dude is feeling himself! 40-28, Mavs lead. If the Heat aren’t careful, Dallas may run away with this.

8:49 p.m. With LeBron on the bench, Heat have regained their footing. Probably a coincidence…but a good thing no matter. Mavs lead by five, 40-35, 8:30 left in the second.

8:52 p.m. Putting out an APB for Dirk Nowitzki. Two points so far…

8:53 p.m. Who would’a thunk Game 6 would’ve come down to Stevenson v. House?!

8:55 p.m. Stevenson and Haslem get into a little skirmish. Chalmers and Chandler and some others join in. Push. Push. No swings. Refs deciphering it all now.

8: 59 p.m. After video review, techs dished out to Udonis Haslem, Mario Chalmers, Deshawn Stevenson. Could’ve been worse.

9:03 p.m. 4:30 left in the second. Still no LeBron James. They’re doing work without him, but it’s time.

9:07 p.m. Not to harp on it, but WTF is up with Dirk? The hero of the 2011 Playoffs is 1-9 from the field. Needs to find himself. Fast.

9:10 p.m. Jason Terry is playing like he doesn’t care about consequences, and it’s suiting him well. He has 17 on 7-9 shooting. 51-49, Dallas leads. 2:14 to go in the second quarter.

9:17 p.m. With Dirk M.I.A. and with Ty Chandler in foul trouble, Dallas still holds a halftime lead, 53-51. Tune in for what should be a superduper dope last 24 minutes.

9:33 p.m. Damn, I forgot how stupid long halftime is during the Finals. Anyway, here we go, for all the marbles (and tostitos).

9:37 p.m. Dirk hits a jumper to start the half. Dallas fans hope that’s the beginning of a big two quarters.

9:40 p.m. A strong start to the half has the Mavs up 7. It’s now or never for the 2011 NBA Heat. Time to make a decision (see what I did there?).

9:47 p.m. Tyson Chandler just picked up his fourth foul. Almost 8 minutes left in the third. Could prove huge.

9: 49 p.m. Bron is looking hard at the refs after that offensive foul call. But if he gets Barea in the post, he needs to bucket.

9:51 p.m. Cardinal got his money’s worth on that hard foul. And they called it on Barea and not him to boot.

9:53 p.m. Technical foul called on Wade. Heat are falling apart at the seams right now.

9:55 p.m. A fan just threw a loose ball at Brian Cardinal…and security is escorting him out. That’s a lot of money down the drain. Hope it was worth the dough, bub.

9:58 p.m. Heat Dancers win the night.

10: 03 p.m. Jason Kidd wants this one bad. He just hit an eyeball-three over Eddie House. 79-71, Dallas.

10:05 p.m. 81-72 after three. It’s only nine, but may as well be Mount Rushmore. Heat have work ahead of them.

10:08 p.m. Looks like some fans are heading for the exits. WTF?!

10:10 p.m. Spo is sweating buckets on the Heat bench. Fidgety as ever. A loss could very well be it for him.

10:11 p.m. Dwyane Wade with the potential and-one. Heat down six.

10:17 p.m. 85-77, Dallas. 9:30 to play. The season comes down to this. About to see some true colors.

10:19 p.m. Dwyane Wade just dribbled the ball off of his foot, and LeBron followed that up with an airball. My oh my.

10:26 p.m. It’s a wrap. Book it. 94-84, Dallas. 5:50 left to play.

10:28 p.m. I’m gonna disconnect in a minute and maneuver my way down to press area/locker rooms/etc. I’ll hit you with all the inside info I can glean once I’m back.

2:30 a.m. Sights, sounds, everything just amazing. Have to book my return flight real quick and snatch a few zzzs, so think I’m gonna do an entirely separate postgame post tomorrow. Night…

the mavs suck. miami will steamroll these posers lol

  • http://Slamonline BossTerry

This oughta be fun… And 1st.

  • Niio

I am really hyped for this game! I’m torn between the players. I really want Kidd to get his ring but I also don’t want this series to end!

  • http://slamonline.com The Fresh Prince of Nsam

I think Dallas closes this thing ouy 2nite. Let’s go baby!

  • http://zarky01 zarky

If there is a team who is much much more deserving to win the title, its Dallas. L-Bron and DWhine doesn’t because they are arrogant, self serving, self proclaiming D-bags.

  • dallas>miami

    Dallas all the way!

  • http://fkjslf.com Jukai

I’ve just ordered about a truckload of food. If things go well, celebration feast. If things go poorly, I get to comfort myself with food.
    Make it 7, Heat.

  • http://slamonline.com The Fresh Prince of Nsam

    I’m watching Kloe & Lamar 2 stay awake b4 tip-off (it’s 23:55 on a rainy day here in London)…
    Go Mavs! (Sorry LBJ).

  • jordeniche

Both teams have played good basketball and gave great entertainment to the fans. I would like to see Miami win in order to silence the critical and often-times biased media.

  • Irfan

Can the Mavericks seal the deal?
I hope they do! Come on Tyson, Dirk, Jason, Jason, JJ, ,Shawn, Ian: give us all you’ve got!
But in the same time I’d like to see another great game by D-Wade, and to complete it, another great choke by LaPrincesse James.
Here it’s 1AM and I’ll be up until 5AM or later (damn looooooong NBA games and stupid US advertising!) so I hope I don’t see LeBron dominate & win! :-D
Or he makes his team lose Game 7 and that’s even better.
Yes, I’m enjoying this series both as a Frenchman who’d be glad to see two young Frenchies get a ring (even without much effort this year ^^) and as a true Bron-Hater. I’ve always liked Wade, I’ve never been attracted to the game of James – quite ugly. So please, lose, quit, let Wade shine. You’re a good rebonder, quite a good passer, a force of nature so come back next year as a true facilitator with more effort to help Wade & Bosh in fourth quarter and you’ll be less hated all around the ball-world.
Teenagers love you and buy your jerseys this year though. And the media world is all around you whereas Wade has proven to be clearly better than James. Maybe you’re right to continue choking your Finals when you can capitalize that much on your physical abilities & referring help during the regular season to get all that credit.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

If Lebron or D-Wade don’t take over this game, the Heat lose. plain & simple

  • fliopnoyce

I really hope Dirk go BLITZKRIEG on MIA. If not this game next game for sure Dallas win the CHIP! HEAT fans better be loud and on their seat before tip off, show some pride and support your team! Go DIRKVADER, time to get yours. I’m hoping these STERNBOTS doesn’t cost DALLAS a L by putting HEAT on charity line to secure a W.

Who stayed home all day for this? Lets go!

  • http://slamonline.com 1982

    And national anthem outsourced, lol.

  • German Reignman

    Pop Quiz:
Whats the difference between LeBron James and DeShawn Stevenson ?

    Answer:
At the moment, there is none … both are complimentary role players on teams in the Finals… 48 minutes from now, one might have a chip….

  • http://slamonline.com The Fresh Prince of Nsam

Waoh the 2 marines honored look really young…

  • http://slamonline.com 1982

Watching the intro video with the CGI stadium…I have a feeling if they came out with a sports based theme park it’d be bigger than Disneyland.

  • http://slamonline.com The Fresh Prince of Nsam

    Great anthem by Marc Anthony.

  • Irfan

Well LeBron scores the first points for Miami. I hope he won’t score in the fourth :-) .

  • http://slamonline.com The Fresh Prince of Nsam

It’s funny hw quickly things change nowadays, so Dwyane Wade is back doing the huddle speech… Poor LBJ

  • Irfan

James is up to a very good start and Dirk isn’t playing well at all. I hope it changes soon!

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

Lebron is 4 for 4. Let’s see what happens next.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Tzvi Twersky

    Crowd’s been great…so far.

  • QuinnTheEskimo

    C’mon the Mavs!!!

  • Irfan

Wow that second foul on Dirk is quite invisible… if Miami’s Big Three plays very well in the first quarter and the refs play Dirk out it’s tough for the Mavs! But still they’re keeping up. Barea & Terry are doing good, and James is beginning to wear off.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

Dallas’ bench(J.Terry and JJ even though JJ is starting) is definitely doing what it needs to right now.

  • Irfan

Cardinaaaaaaaaaaal for three! And Dallas goes back up while Dirk is on the bench!
But D-Wade is still playing truly great. And the refs are still helping.

  • fliopnoyce

Mia just turn heatless at the moment!

  • Irfan

2 fouls on Dirk, 2 fouls on Chandler… tough for the Mavs but Terry is playing so great, he’s 4/4 off the bench and steals balls!

  • kudos

The ref’s are pro-Miami. Anyone who thinks not is retarded.

  • Irfan

Wow Stevenson & Terry are hustling! James has a little disappeared after hitting his first 4 shots. Keep up Dallas!

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

Dallas is really starting playing that Zone D to near prefection

  • QuinnTheEskimo

The Mav’s are sooo good they make men wet!!

  • QuinnTheEskimo

This is team ball… Show the Heaters how to do it oldskool!

  • QuinnTheEskimo

Soo wanna say ‘in your face eBoy’ for those ludicrous comments all year…

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/officerbarbrady what

As a Hawks fan, I’m just surprised it took the Heat this long to realize that Bibby sucks.

  • thetruthshinesthrough

    deshawn cant feel his body!!!!!!!

  • Bruno

    Deshawn is killin ‘em

  • fliopnoyce

Still waiting for Dirk to go BLITZKRIEG, so far he’s been silent, shots fireddddddd, Stevenson back to back 3′s!!!!

  • Irfan

The Mavericks bench is playing outstanding! Stevenson scores at will, LeBron is already in “4th quarter mode”!

  • QuinnTheEskimo

    40-28 Dallas…are you kidding me!!! F**K yeah!

  • German Reignman

gotta correct my comment from 7:59 …. DeShawn is currenty integral part of this run

  • kudos

WDF chalmers with the push-off? Are the ref’s paid to take this to a game 7?

  • Irfan

Obviously refs want a Game 7 to get one more payday yet I believe this was a Chalmers’ foul on Barea.

  • fliopnoyce

Sternbots definitely have the Heats back, I really hope Dallas pull this off, damn these officials!

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

Wow these refs aren’t very good at all. Sure JJ sold it but you could see h clearly pushed him.

  • Sung

    pceeee miami!

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

Wow this is definitely Wade’s team. I mean come on

  • kudos

Anybody see chalmers tryna act tough?? LOL

  • Irfan

Wow @Wade really huge! He’s put Miami in front of Dallas in one minute.

  • thetruthshinesthrough

    we dont need this

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

Damn I don’t like Chalmers. He’s always trying to be seen. He’s like some annoying High-School kid that’ll do anything for attention.

  • Irfan

That small feud was so stupid and Chalmers & the Heat bench are really stupid!! Bosh had a very clever reaction.

  • fliopnoyce

Eddie House just revive the Heat, All of a sudden everyone just became a fake toughguy. WTF??????? Chalmer needs to have an elbow in his grill, lol

  • QuinnTheEskimo

    40-42 Are you kidding me…S**T!!

  • Irfan

Wow Dirk is missing it all in the most crucial game 0_o

  • kudos

Someone tell nowitzki that he needs to take it to the hole !! Stop with all these fade-aways

  • Irfan

    Terry is wonderful tonight!

  • Bruno

    Jason Terry esta encendido!!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

My Goodness Jason Terry came to ball tonight.

  • fliopnoyce

Jasonnnnnn Terry has been clutch so far, come on DIRK, you can’t have an off game now. Find a rhythm and may the force be with yo

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

Dirk is getting in touch with his inner Kwame Brown out there.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Refs suck, Dallas will still win. Dirk is going to come back and have a good game. Shots are rimming out. Dallas by 12 points and hit 10 threes next half and Wade gets hurt, falling down on purpose. LeRobin gets 30 points, but still lose. Dallas WINS IT ALL, BOOK IT!!!

  • B.J.
  • jdub

anybody see LBJ in the 2nd qtr

  • ab40

nowitzki needs a dunk to get shot in. six more minutes till 2nd half tip off

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

That 1st half was on some bizarro ish. Dirk shooting horribly, Mr. Overconfident shooting the damn lights out.
    Wow.

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

JJ has big man footwork. Luv..it.

  • Irfan

Nowitzki is waking up and James doesn’t want to shoot anymore. But Chalmers & Wade are doing good job. I hope terry doesn’t cool on the bench.

  • http://sl.com Krishan

Dirk starting to heat up. Mavs clicking early.

  • http://slamonline.com Ben Osborne

Great job so far, Tzvi. The Heat are pretty much disgusting me right now. SHOOK.

  • QuinnTheEskimo

    @The Seed. I hope you’re right brother i hope you’re right!

  • http://sl.com Krishan

I love that after going 1-12 in the first half, Dirk comes out of halftime shooting 4 attempts in less than 2 minutes. Big heart.

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

    Nice acting job, Bosh.

  • QuinnTheEskimo

    Go Dirk the Aussie!!!

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

Hahahaha, JJ SOLD that foul like a BOSS.

  • Irfan

It seems to me as if James hasn’t scored since the first minutes of the game… But Wade is doing a great job for Miami and Bosh plays well too.

  • Irfan

Well refs are playing great for the Heat too.

  • kudos

Miami-20 free throws Dallas-7 The ref’s are tryna get Miami back into a game 7. Home-cooking at it’s finest.

  • Irfan

But Dirk doesn’t stop trying and he hits that three! Great player!

  • kudos

Yeah, Wade needs to stop complaining foreal. He clearly lowered his shoulder into Kidd.

  • Irfan

That’s it ref! The offensive foul of D-Wade is obvious! Well done Custodian! The T then is THE LEAST YOU CAN WHISTLE! And that’s not the first time Wade and/or James complain this way.

  • Irfan

How can Marion miss a layup in the NBA Finals?

  • Bruno

come on Dallas just 12 more minutes make it happen Dirk

    MAHINMI!

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

It’s 4th quarter time. The Moment of Truth. Let’s see what Lebron James is really about.

  • Irfan

Great play by Ian Mahiiiiiiiiinmi at the end of the 3rd! Just before that, Kidd hit a 3-pointer and James split free throws (1/4 so far). Sweet! Keep up Mavs!
If Terry can heat up again as he did in the first half of Dirk just go back to being 4-quarter-Dirk, the Mavs win their title!

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

    OUI, IAN MAAAAAAAHINMIIIII.
seriously though, Miami can’t outplay a Kidd/Terry/Marion/Cardinal/Mahinmi lineup for a nice chunk of the 3rd qtr? Odd.

  • http://www.slamonline.com melvin ely

and FYI, I was pretty much neutral in this series up until that coughing session by Wade and Lebron. I hope Dirk starts coughing uncontrollably when receiving the Lary O’Brien

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

Might just be the Tv transmission, but the Arena sounds quiet all game long.

  • Irfan

    Wow Wade doesn’t give up!

  • thetruthshinesthrough

Man they could use haywood right now

  • http://slamonline.com/ Tzvi Twersky

@darksaber: It’s been quiet for long stretches. Fans seem to realize this is the deciding stretch of the game.

  • QuinnTheEskimo

This is the most important half hour of my life?? C,mon mav’s, do it for the homeless children in Germany and Australia watching through the window of the local TV store…

  • http://www.slamonline.com melvin ely

Just went over to NBAYahoo! and saw that Lebron James is -22 in the +/- department.
NEGATIVE TWENTY-TWO in the biggest game of your life? what

  • http://sl.com Krishan

Miami going 58% from the line. 13 potential points gone. That’s going to kill them if they don’t win.

  • i ball

9 more mins. put them out D.

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

    Thanks Tvzi. Good to know.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Lebron has nothing yall, stop acting like he about to score 50 points. In his made for TV interview, he stated he didn’t want the pressure of having to score 30 points tonight. Its the Tyson effect, everyone still thinks he has it, but Heat getting Buster Douglased. Lebron career looking like Dominique Wilkins right now, until he steps up. Highlights NO SUBSTANCE!!!

  • http://sl.com Krishan

    12 point lead. Ruh-roh.

  • Bruno

somebody tell chris bosh he is allowed to jump and block a shot of a guy half his height!!!

  • backboard

ya know, i am starting to feel sorry for Lebron… the higher you rise, the deeper you fall.

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

I truly hate premature celebrating ,BUT the way the Mavs bench snipers, the triple J’s, are just killing the Heat, plus the Heat turnovers due to pressurecooker-syndrome, this game is close to being blown wide open.
    Cautious but giddy.

  • QuinnTheEskimo

12 points…I definitely have a semi.. If the Mav’s lose it will be the biggest f**k up in NBA finals history. C’mon (ala Lleyton Hewitt)

  • http://sl.com Krishan

All of this is clearly Spo’s fault.

  • Irfan

Barea is killing the Heat, it’s so fun :-) . A tiny guy against mountains of muscles!
Terry, Marion and others have been great too and though he has troubles shooting Dirk isn’t bad either.
James is choking again, Wade wants to win but can’t score at will, and they’re forgetting the poor Bosh!

  • Papou

    GO MAVS GO!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

  • i ball

damn lebron forgot to take his talents to the finals especially the 4th qt. :)

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

Wow, these foul calls against Dallas…..

  • BostonBaller

The whistle may just start to go a certain way….

  • Irfan

Refs? Seriously? Give 3 points to Chalmers & the Heat? Well I hope it’s too late anyway.

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

I can’t believe how Jason Terry has backed up his yapping after game 3. Shocking the hell outta me. He is fantabulous tonight. Has been since Game 4.

  • flipnoyce

Lets go Dallas keep putting that pressure on the Heat. MIA might be playing their last hope tonight.

  • kudos

The ref’s are seriously calling fouls everytime Miami is driving now. And they’re holding the whistles everytime Dallas is taking it to the hole. What bs.

  • http://sl.com Krishan

Heat cannot win with mavs shooting this well. Still time for a final run though.

  • Irfan

Chandler isn’t playing great in this last game! Dirk neither! And now the Heat is coming a bit closer…
Nice block by Chandler though! If he closes as a strong defender it’s ok for me!

  • kudos

The ref’s are acting shady as heck right now.

  • QuinnTheEskimo

    @Darksabre… hope you’re right!

  • QuinnTheEskimo

I’m worried now..Everything indicates a Mav’s win but we all know what can happen in the NBA…Book it!

  • Bruno

weird sequence hahaha can anybody in the heat please shoot the ball???

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

Jackson and JVG on the international audiofeed (which picks up their conversations even during timeouts etc), just pondered if they should mention Kobe’s Game 7 FG% (6-24 vs. Celtics) because of Dirk.
Jeff dismissed it with a, “that doesn’t apply tonight”.

  • flipnoyce

Lets Go Dallas, LBJ don’t seem to have anything to do with the ball right now. Dirkvader is coming alive. last 3 minutes Dallas seems to be the CHAMP!!!!!

  • kudos

    Dirk with the dagger.!

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

@Melvin Lebron walked straight to the locker room. And the question mark was a typo. He definitely wouldn’t have.

  • Jackie Moon

Lebron was not, is not, but may one day be the best.

He is a bull in a china shop with almost no post game. He may get hot from outside, and then he is unstoppable, but as you can see, it’s not reliably consistent, and defenses can take away his strengths. Unfortunately, he can’t make those defenses pay by countering their attack.

Lebron was not, is not, but may one day be better than Kobe Bryant.

What’s his excuse now? His teammates? His coach? GTFO.

  • http://www.slamonline.com melvin ely

    oh wait he did, nevermindthencarryon..

Congrats to Dirk, and Jason Terry’s tattoo. Also awesome to see Mark Cuban so graceful in winning.

I wonder if Miami will even ENTERTAIN the idea of trading one of the “Big 3″ for a REAL point guard (Paul?) or REAL Center (Dwight?). Just to have a balanced team. How COMEDIC would it be if they traded Wade, the original Heat member. I say after breaking down, Bosh is good as gone.

  • http://slamonline.com Jakroyds

You guys take the NBA for granted. No one (I repeat, no one) in the history of the NBA has lost a Finals series in 6 games and been attacked this much. Half of you were loving him in the ECF and now this? Okay, he played poorly. He talked game but he didn’t bring the same heart on the court. That’s disappointing. But the main reason they lost? Dirk. That dude is a killer. Any time Miami got a smidgen of momentum, he came up big. He hit the toughest shots ever seen in basketball. Dallas won because they are deep, and they had the best player of this series. Congratulations to Dallas, they truly dominated the 4th quarters and cleaned up a more inexperienced and weaker team. We, as fans, and the media made Miami the front-runner this Finals. And we were wrong. Stop hating, and get pumped for next season. I know I am.

  • DIRK

I have decided to take my talents to south beach and win a title.. Oh n lebron do you want to see my championship ring?

  • http://www.slamonline.com melvin ely

@blackphantom yeah I’m confused now, I’m scouring all chat rooms, forums for a definite answer (I hate being at work during the finals), but if you say so.. I bet the media blows it up again if that’s the case

  • http://fkjslf.com Jukai

Bosh isn’t going anywhere. The Heat need to learn to play together. Run pick and rolls together. This iso stuff is saddening and disheartening.

  • Tyrant56

Next year (if there is one) will be great and unfotunately this loss can only make the heat stronger and that is very, very scary.

  • http://www.slamonline.com melvin ely

question: does anyone else think Miami in this series got caught up in the high-offense tempo and played straight into the Mavs’ hands? During the ECF I believe we saw just how good the Miami defense can be. This series, I think they tried outscoring Dallas and they paid for it IMO.

If LeBron has even a little bit of the stuff that MJ/Magic/Bird/Kobe et al. have, he’d come back next season with an actual, 1-on-1 post game. Mark my words. This is how we’ll truly see what LBJ’s character is like. If by next season he still doesn’t have any legit post moves, then we’ll know.

That one play like 3 minutes left in the game where each of the Heat players touched the ball and didn’t dare to make a move was the most telling play, that did it for me. Wade came back the next play and hit a quick fadeaway, but too little too late, man. If the Heat learn to play offense like they play defense (like a team), the next few titles are still theirs to lose.

  • mj23

Congrats to the Mavs fans!!! This was complete team performance by them, and Lebron and DWade choked under pressure. By the third quarter, I could see the panic in their faces. Lebron wasn’t willing to take the shots, and Wade was trying to force fouls and started whining at the refs. Glad to see the Miami cry babies lose. Now, give Lebron his binkie before he starts crying in the locker room again.

Oh Lebron. Since the Lakers went down I’ve been watching the rest of the playoffs without any of the weird emotional baggage that comes from being a Kobe fan. And watching your personal 10-0 run against Boston and seeing you destroy Rose was quite a sight. You needed to attack the rim and be the physical brute, force the issue and get to the line all series long, especially during the 4th Q, because only 2 other guys on your squad can reliably put up 15+ a night, and one of them is the American version of Gasoft. The “it’s okay to not dominate on offense ‘cuz he’s dominating on defense” spiel spun up by sports writers is nonsense and a bad excuse, please don’t buy into that. I hope you learn from this as much as Dirk learned from his failures in 2006-2007, stop settling for easy outside shots and learn to turn on that beast mode that destroyed Detroit all those years ago whenever your team needs it.

Jason Kidd (Ason-no-more) did a tremendous job defending the following players during these playoffs:

    Durant
    Bron & Wade.

  • http://fkjslf.com Jukai

Darksaber: Honestly, he probably deserves a lot of it. The stars he stood up for failed. I’m even embarrassed myself.
I mean, I still believe that Lebron is better than Kobe. By far. Wade too, by a bit. I still believe that both are clutch and this whole “choke” thing is a fabrication.
But not quitting? How do I argue against that when they face adversity and simply say “f*ck it?” How do I defend their behavior when the whiplash they get clearly effects them?
Eboy deserves it even more. He defiantly defended his star and spit on others while doing it. Now his stars failed him, he SHOULD get sh*t. Sorry. I’m not one to step on a man when he’s doing, but Lebron would NOT change up his stupid game plan even when it was failing.
I know we can easily blame that on the coach, but everyone knew the coach was stupid. This was awful all around.
Good for the Mavs though. I guess.

  • JoeMaMa

Miami likely will win championships, but with the new CBA coming up, their titles may come with one of the three (likely Bosh) gone. Miami may not be able to hang onto all 3, unless they restructure their contracts to fit the new model. Should be interesting. And another thing: Dallas REALLY loaded up on LeBron on the pick and rolls. His one flaw is his outside shooting, and Dallas played him well. Let’s not start saying LeBron sucks. I WILL say he didn’t play up to his potential, but give Dallas credit; especially Carlisle’s game plan.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

I guess I won’t bash JT until he tries to diss Kobe in defense of Lebron.

I have nothing to say, except that this win feels good…and now I’m sad cause the season is over. Oh, and as long as next season actually happens, the mavs get better and deeper if RoddyB and Caron can stay healthy. But their desire might be gone, after this, we’ll have to see. GO DALLAS

  • QuinnTheEskimo

    oh yeah!!!

  • borges

Great players ALWAYS find a way to help their team to win, that’s their criterion. James could became one, but he is not there yet. Dirk is.

  • Jackie Moon

Should have known when Wade and Lebron got bronze, but as soon as Kobe and Kidd joined ‘em, they went gold.

Has any other team been overshot FT’s by 15 attempted and still won? Man Dallas played a great game. My Lakers got beat by them cuz they played listlessly and Dallas played like they played the whole playoffs, consistently good-great, so I was rooting for them and glad they won! A team of great players and decent human beings.

Krishan, it’s not that he’s a dick, he just has a very closed mind of what he views as basketball talent. And I agree 100% Dark. And I don’t think I’ve said it yet so congrats to your team on the W. My question for you, and I guess all of SLAM is, where does Dirk now rank in all time great PF’s?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Great series, great playoffs, great year for basketball. It was nice chilling on SLAM in the virtual realms of basketball with all of you. And of course, congratulations to the Dallas Mavericks!

Goodnight DarkSaber ((((((hugggsss)))))) And, GOOD GAME!!! ((Hard Ass slap)).. oow, feels stingy, don’t it?!?!

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

What a run Tyson Chandler is having.
Last fall the FIBA World Championship with Team USA, now the 1st ever Nba Championship with the Mavs. This season just clicked for Dallas.
The injuries to Roddy, Caron and Dirk, Jones not able to make the rotation, getting Peja and Brewer (feel sorry for him not playing in the finals at all, great energy to ignite that superb comeback vs. LA in Gm 1 of the 2nd round).
    Carlisle actually did everything right?!!!
    Wow.

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

Oh and i guess THE ILLUMINATI FORGOT TO SEND YOU THE MEMO, EDDIE1.
The one about your conspiracy theories being a bunch of bull…
So much for us being “simpletons”, numbnuts.

here we are, dark!!! but you sum it up pretty good for us mavs fans :-) .
    MAVS CHAMPS 2011!!! GEILE SCHEIS$E!!!

  • http://slamonline.com Saviour

I said it yesterday…the video of them mocking Dirk was the end of the Heat, too young and childish to know how to deal with my big stage situations and now DONE. Congrats the Mavs, 2011 NBA Champions!!!!

And let Haywood carry you to the locker room
    LIKE A BO$H!!!

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

A lot of people were criticizing Jason the Jet, but he came through when it mattered the most. He’s actually a pretty likable guy too, it seems–confident but not overly arrogant or snobbish, and also pretty well-spoken in interviews. Gotta love it.

Not at all how I thought this Finals would go. Congrats to the Mavs and their fans. HUGE thanks to Lang, Maurice, Adam and Tzvi for their work on the Finals and to all you commenters for making this the best place to discuss the games.

    *Dampier that is*
    lol :)

  • LeBron de Con

    Myself sux in 4Q, myself

  • BBaller

Basketball won today, the Heat’s Hollywood and WWE behavior was exposed as inferior attitudes that are displayed by a championship basketball team . Can’t help but smile at the way their arrogance has come back to haunt them.Good, to presume to win this prestigious title in July is disrespectful. So even as a Spurs fan i have to say well done to the Dallas Mavericks basketball team, they were truly the reason i enjoy basketball.

  • http://fivemag.de Speedy

I don’t know what to write right now.
I’m so happy for Dirk and his whole team of old-stars and role players that showed us what basketball must be about.
    TEAMPLAY and HARDWORK.
Like Dark said all these little stories surounding this team (Kidd,Marion,Buttler,JJ B.,…) make it that emotional and great for Mavs fans.
Everybody that hates on the Heat right now doesn’t know basketball.
They are a great team that made it to a finals game 6 in their first year together and they will be back.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

LeBoy is a straight up douche/troll most of the time, but JTaylor is at least funny, and doesn’t seem to take himself too serious on here. All the “Heat” LeBoy is getting right now was well EARNED, so please spare me the ish about him being a “real” fan. SMH

  • http://fivemag.de Speedy

    @Max
I laughed too when I saw him.
    He didn’t deserve it.
I remember when he came from the Warriors, played great till he had his contract and then went into chill mode. So Dallas had the same Center problem again till Tyson came.

  • http://slamonline.com Chester

    LOL EBOY. that is all

  • http://www.nba.com/celtics lights out

so happy for Dirk, Kidd, and Terry. the rest of the Mavs too, of course, but especially those three. I’m a Celtics fan, but I really came to like this Mavs team over the course of these Finals. they’re tough, they’re smart, and their ball movement was incredible to watch. i also like that just about everyone on their roster is a contributor. again, just beautiful to watch.

    Die Deutschen sind da!
Manno, wie sich Khalid aufregen wird. Seine “lieblingszielscheibe” (wenigstens noch vor einigen Saisons) hat gerade den Titel geholt. Und wie.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Cheryl

Congrats to Dirk, Kidd & the Mavs. Truly, sincerely happy for them. They had the better team. And the better team always wins a 7 game series, always. We’ve got work to do, obviously. Building a team is one, but more importantly is the necessity to work on the mental aspect of the game. There was a lot of mental stumbles during this season. and let me go on record saying I thought Chris Bosh was the best at handling and working on the psychological part of his game.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Cheryl

*there were* Can’t correct other folks’ grammar and not correct my own!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Max

Christy Posh good at handling his psychological part of his game?

  • Riggs

    hahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

@Cheryl: Agreed about the Bosh part.

  • http://slamonline.com Tracy

What they never showed anyone after Dirk’s championship press conference was him saying “And right now for the record you ain’t messing with my dougie!”
