Stan Van Gundy and Gilbert Arenas’ Relationship Improving?

After visiting with a couple of shrinks over the summer, SVG met with the frustrated Gilbert Arenas (who has some pretty influential support in the locker room), and even though they supposedly came to an understanding, it doesn’t sound like Gil’s role on the Orlando Magic is any clearer going forward. From the Sentinel: “Stan Van Gundy is trying to get better by exercising his mind and understanding what makes people tick. Van Gundy has seen two psychologists — and he’s only coached Gilbert Arenas for about half a season. I posted that line on Twitter, so Gilbert knows I must be joking … Van Gundy said he and Arenas have had a meeting of the minds and cleared the air. ‘He talked about what upset him,’ Van Gundy said. “Gilbert was not as frustrated with his playing time as he was (during the season). It’s different once you’re out of the heat of battle. He’s an intelligent guy. He had a frustration that we didn’t play to his strengths. ‘I think he had a valid point.’ Van Gundy said he knows it was ‘very, very tough’ for Arenas to go from starter to bench player and from a primary scorer to complementary piece. Still, Van Gundy said Jameer Nelson will go into the season as the starting point guard. He added he’s ‘unsure of what Gilbert’s role is’ — behind Nelson or at the two-guard spot — if he doesn’t return ‘considerably lighter,’ focused and his knee at full strength. As for [Dwight] Howard siding with Arenas — creating a possibility of a divided team — Van Gundy shrugged.”
