Jalen Rose to Serve 20 Days in Jail for Drunk Driving

Former NBA player Jalen Rose has had a rough couple of months. First, there was the controversy over his comments about Grant Hill and Duke University in ESPN‘s Fab Five documentary. Then in March news broke that he had been arrested for drinking and driving and when he didn’t come clean to ESPN about the incident, they suspended him. And now, he’s getting 20 days in the big house.

Via My FOX Detroit:

“Former Michigan star and NBA player Jalen Rose was sentenced to 20 days in jail on a drunken driving charge after crashing his sport utility vehicle on a snowy suburban Detroit road earlier this year. FOX 2’s Al Allen reports Rose will begin serving his sentence on Tuesday. Rose was arrested March 11. He told a judge in May that he had six martinis the night he veered off the West Bloomfield Township road. Authorities said Rose had a 0.088 percent blood-alcohol level, above Michigan’s legal driving limit of 0.08 percent. A later hospital test showed his blood-alcohol content as 0.12 percent. Rose is a professional basketball analyst for cable sports giant ESPN.”

The sentence was handed down by Judge Kimberly Small, who has a reputation of being tough on first-time drunken drivers. Rose’s defense team is considering appealing the decision. Small reportedly received several letters from community leaders, including Detroit Mayor David Bing, urging her to consider Rose’s community efforts. If an appeal is not made, Rose will be joining 1,200 other inmates at the Oakland County Jail on Tuesday.
