Kobe Bryant Asking for $1 Million Per Month to Play in Turkey?

According to the Turkish press, Kobe wants some serious dough on a monthly basis in order to take his talents to Turkey during the NBA lockout (where Deron Williams will reportedly make $5 million for the season.) From ESPN (via NTV Spor): “The Turkish team that recently reached an agreement to sign All-Star guard Deron Williams if the NBA lockout drags on has placed its pursuit of Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant on hold, according to an overseas report. Turkey’s NTV Spor reported Monday that Besiktas’ basketball funds have been tied up by the match-fixing scandal that has ripped through the Turkish soccer world, forcing Besiktas to search for outside funding to help with the further pursuit of NBA players. According to NTV Spor, Besiktas was initially prepared to offer Bryant a monthly salary of $500,000. But Bryant, according to the report, is seeking a monthly salary of $1 million to join Williams.”

    jus about right

Um, if Deron is getting $5M for the season, and if the season lasts 5-6 months, then is what Kobe’s asking for really that far-fetched? The headline makes it seem like he’s asking for some ridiculously high number compared to other guys.

$1Mio/month tax free salary is a lot! (Ballers are exempt from paying taxes overseas) That salary translates to $20Mio/year in the US (after taxes). More then what he’s making @Lakers!! Considering he’s way off his prime, Besiktas better off getting DWade @1Mio/month!! He’d do it too and way better baller at this point in his career!

Damn, that sounds like a lot of loot but when you do the math, it makes sense. Also, no one is worth 1 mill a game not even MJ.

It’s a deal it’s in US dollars… Especially if US get bankrupted in the coming weeks.

  • robb

He should get more, but hey its Turkey!!

Jordan got about 500K a game in his last season with the Bulls…not that far fetched…especially considering they play less games…and they would have to make it very worth Kobe’s while to go over and risk his US contract.

  • come on Barea dominated the finals

hmmm peter don’t think he did, mj was the highest paid basketball play ever with a 30 MILLION dollar contract

now if he was paid 500 THOUSAND a game and there was 82 games, do the math…

  • Drew

Hey he’s actually worth $2 million a month, based on his NBA season salary.

  • AD

kobe isnt worth that he needs to retire and hand over the throne to shannon brown

  • K-niff

    u may accept Kobe

Peter’s actually not that far off. Jordan got about $365,000 a game in his final season with the Bulls (I’m only counting the 82 game regular season).
Unless my math totally sucks. Which it does…

Jordan made 33 mill his last year (http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jordami01.html bottom of the page) for a nice 404.000$/game. Not bad for a 35 yo player lol Kobe is worth 1 per month and more, ask the Lakers, but he shouldn’t risk that knee, ask the Lakers.

  • bull22

he must have alot of money saved up because he must be an utter fool to risk his remaining contract with the lakers for the love of a turkey game…. why does he not spend time talking about he is going to be spending time with his family instead…

  • Patzilla

Regardless of what he made overseas he would still pay tax in the US because it is his primary residence

Kobe would be worth $1M per month if he can guarantee a 25/15/10 performance each game. Otherwise, 1M is simply outrageous. Think of the hundreds of malnourished kids it could feed each month. Now if he could set aside even half of that for this purpose, he’d be a hero to these kids…& to me.

$1 Million a month for a whole year doesn’t even amount to his annual NBA Salary ($23 Million)

  • wzzup

That in fact IS a bargain. Kobe earns above 25M $ with the Lakers. Including playoffs that makes for a monthly salary of 3.6M per month!
