Ron Artest to Ball in England During NBA Lockout

Prepare for the “Metta World Peace” experience, British hoops fans. Ron-Ron tells the LA Times that he plans to skip across the pond to play pro basketball (and shoot a movie!) during the NBA’s lockout: “Artest also said he is going overseas to play during the lockout, but not where you might think. Instead of playing for one of the prestigious teams in southern Europe, he plans to play for either the Cheshire Jets or Glasgow Rocks of the British Basketball League. Um, dude, there’s a British Basketball League? ‘The teams aren’t good, but I’m going there to finish a movie, so why not?’ he said. This is, of course, the Lakers’ biggest problem with Artest. Some in the organization think that he lost focus after winning his championship ring, some think he became swallowed up in Hollywood’s chaos even as he was winning awards for his citizenship, and I hit him with that question again. ‘Too distracted? C’mon, man, I was prepared to be an All-Star, it just didn’t work out, but I was there, especially in the playoffs,’ he said. ‘People who ask that question should have seen me at the gym at 4 a.m.’”

Anyone who knows british basketball will know Artest can barely be offered anything financially by teams here, so I respect and appreciate how he would rather play basketball here, than play elsewhere in europe for 1000000 times more money! Got to wonder if his game will suffer though, as the standard of the UK domestic league is a lot lower than where some of Artests NBA peers may be playing this year…

lol Ron wouldn’t even care…dudes an oddball, and I mean that in the most endearing way possible. When everyone else is going East he goes left. He’s an NBA player named Metta World Peace, who has a contract with a sneaker not even carried at the more established bargain shoe retailers. He drives a horridly customized Hyundai Genesis with purple and gold headlights (an absolute monstrosity of a vehicle)…he also thanks his shrink after victories….the man is a LEGEND. I honestly wouldn’t be too surprised if he decided to join some local boys team in Libya lol

I’m calling it now: this is going to be the strangest NBA news day ever.

On behalf of the whole of Britain’s basketball fans I would like to thank our lord and savior MJ for delivering the entertainment that is Ron Artest to our shores.

I wonder how many of these NBA and NFL players and owners know (or care) how many lives they are destroying because they can’t not agree on how to split up billions of dollars. In Atlanta alone there is ova 500 people that work the sports facilities that now will not have jobs. Houses lost, cars lost, bills not paid, food not bought, kids not taken care of. THANK YOU NBA AND NFL, for making such a great statement. NBA Cares – my azz

I’m a Lakers fan living in Cheshire so I hope he does this. BBL standard is a long way below NBA but it would be epic for him to play.

i’am really amused how the players are trying to play mind games with the fans so they can be backed and scare the fans with the threat of there being no season, let all of those fools go to europe, who cares? you go to a game, and charge you premium for cheap seats and cheap food… thats why i got smart and if i cant get a good deal on some good seats, i simply don’t go….

This is the best opportunity to start a new league in Europe.
Great talent available, no serious basketball entertainment outside the USA.
24 teams with 3 games each. In three years you have expanded one of the greatest shows on earth.
UK, why not, Ron Artest may see a start of something new.

We don’t WANT Ron! Send us a PRO! It would be better for the US boys and the Brits for that matter, if a true NBA role model came over to play in the BBL. We need to raise our game not our publicity!

Remember Meech for the Sharks he had instant impact on that team and the our L…
