The NBA Can’t Punish Michael Beasley for Drug Charge During Lockout

There’s good news and there’s bad news: the League can’t do anything about the marijuana, but the law hasn’t locked anybody out yet. So, proceed with caution SuperCool Beas. From the Sun-Sentinel: “In the void of an NBA collective-bargaining agreement, there is no substance-abuse policy currently in place. None. ‘The anti-drug agreement — including testing and penalties — is not in effect during the lockout,’ league spokesman Tim Frank said in an email. Hmm, so that’s why no one is in a rush to get back to the negotiating table amid the current lockout. Talk about your ultimate amnesty program. Steroids? Banned substances? Pot? All legal issues at the current moment, nothing more. Those who had been subject to random testing? Those tests no longer are in place. It is an interesting crossroads for the players and the league.”

Can’t test but when the League starts back up you better believe they are going to know whats going on with all of their players/investments.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

You people need to realize that steroid use in/before the NBA is already very prevalent. Same with HGH. Marijuana use is not even worth talking about its so regular.

Minnesota may see this as a good reason to ship Beasley somewhere else (once the lockout is over) to free up minutes for Derrick. I’m sure there are some teams that would love to have his talent.

@nbk how do you know nba players are doping??? i need PROOF

what’s the problem if Beastley is dubbies all summer. didn’t the owners locked them out. He should smoke the entire summer and start cleaning that outta of his system once the season starts(if). you only need 2 weeks and ur clean

  • rudy

Firstly, lol @ Spagett comments and name ! I spooked ya! Tim n Eric ftw!

Secondly, Michael, Beasley, NOT GUILTY! Y’all tried to charge him but he’s not guilty!…well he is, but you know what I mean.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I don’t have proof, nor would I provide it if i did. I know people that are either involved or working their way up in the professional basketball ranks. Both in the US and overseas – I am not unsure about what I said, I am just not going to provide any specifics. Believe me or not, don’t really matter too me, just giving information where I think its useful

@nbk, so your basically talking about NBDL and euro players?…. Yeah the other day I met some dude who was friends with Mateen Cleaves workout partner while training and mateen told him that most NBA players inject steriods into their legs so they can jump higher.. but I wont provide any specifics.

  • Remo Williams

@nbk… you make a strong argument there.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

With out a doubt doping goes down in some way. I’ve seen Bigger, Stronger, Faster lol.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Mainly players who aren’t subject to testing, so yes mainly D-League/Euro/College/High School kids. I know a player that just signed oversees, played college ball last year and has been using steroids 3 of the last 4 summers, and he is not the only person I know that has done / is doing steroids to become a Better basketball player. That’s as specific as I’m getting.

Hell Rashard Lewis one of the thinnest, least athletic dudes in the L was taking HGH wasn’t he?

Derrick Rose said that there is a performance enhancing drug problem in the NBA.

  • http://slamonline.com Tae

NBA Pros: The League! Game coming soon! Beasley on tha cover

  • rudy

Derrick Rose couldn’t even use “performance-enhancing drugs” in a sentence. He most likely said something along the lines of, “err…uhhh..people in the..uhh..nba are ..umm fast and stuff. And umm, some are big too…muscles.” That is the extent of the genius that is Derrick Rose.

  • http://Philosophervision@blogspot.com The Philosopher

^^ Nah, he really said that.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

marijuana users always quote the same scriptures. But how do they know those verses are about that particularly herb? they are so many herbs that cause all sorts of benefits and feelings when ingested, how can they decide on just that one as being the one in the Bible.
    I’ve never seen that explained.

  • http://dsfjklf.com Jukai

Chicago Bulls point guard and NBA MVP Derrick Rose is denying that he characterized the use of performance-enhancing drugs in pro basketball as a “huge” problem, the Chicago Tribune reports.
In the May 16 issue of ESPN The Magazine, Rose was asked, “If 1 equals ‘What are PEDs (Performance Enhancing Drugs)’? and 10 equals ‘Everybody’s Juicing’… How big of an issue is illegal enhancing in your sport?”
Rose’s response: “Seven. It’s huge, and I think we need a level playing field, where nobody has that advantage over the next person.”
But a person close to Rose said the question he was asked was, “How big of a problem would it be if steroid use were rampant in the NBA?,” according to the Tribune.
Rose later attempted to clear up the misunderstanding.
“If that was my response to any question, I clearly misunderstood what was asked of me. … But let me be clear, I do not believe there is a performance enhancing drug problem in the NBA,” Rose said in a statement.

For the record, I do not use marijuana in any way.

  • http://twitter.com/BeezKneezy LA Huey

We don’t need to drag scriptures into the debate. If you do your research, you’ll realize that the affects of marijuana are no worse than that of alcohol. If you’re ok with booze being legal, you have a weak argument against marijuana being ok.

For real? The Christian god gave us weed to end hunger? What a cruel joke.

  • http://dsfjklf.com Jukai

LOL there’s no research that says weed is as safe as alcohol. C’mon now, I’m for legalizing it, but the fake banter needs to stop.

LMAO @ Steroids making you a better basketball player… so much misinformation.

  • Brahsef

You honestly don’t think weed is safer than booze? Comeon son, you can actually overdose on alcohol. Your body resists booze if you consume too much of it (throwing up) and you have withdrawals the next day if you drink too much (hangover).

I love beer too, don’t get me wrong…but there aren’t many weed related deaths compared to alcohol related deaths. There’s even new research showing that marijuana may decrease the amount of carcinogenic cells in the lungs.

That being said, medical marijuana is a farce. For every person like my roommate that has Crone’s disease, there’s 10 people who don’t deserve to have their card. Just legalize marijuana instead of puttin up a front about its medical value.

  • the truth

    1. Yes, steroids could make you a better basketball player if used correctly, so that’s not necessarily misinformation. (Think, getting a stronger core, stronger legs, better recovery time from workouts etc.)
    2. If u need research to tell u weed is safer than alcohol then you’ve probably never smoked. It’s common sense

“That being said, medical marijuana is a farce.”

I see your raise and I re-raise you. There’s plenty of research that says you’re wrong. At the very least, marijuana is a great pain reliever. Then again, so is alcohol. (I’m talking physical pain.)

  • Allenp

The most common methods of smoking weed are bad for you. The plant itself has benefits and drawbacks.
And the only reason alcohol is legal is because when it was illegal it birthed organized crime. That is the sole reason.

  • Brahsef

Did you even read my comment or just pick one line out of context?

Anything in excess will likely cause problems for you in life. Too much booze…too much food…too much sex…The moral of this comment is having self control goes a long way towards true happiness in life.
